  1. MN doesn't ever over-pay do they? Sounds like a re-pick for next year.... But I like it if they try to sign him.
  2. Shelby Miller is so classy!
  3. Yes, I'll admit to being a homer here. Wanting him to succeed because I've been rooting for him for so long. And I agree about the 1st round pick up to now. But last year, he stayed healthy. Now this year he has started to look good. And if he can keep it up with a 93-94 MPH fastball (as reported), he won't have any problems finding suitors for a minor league contract next year. I'm not ready to grant him a major league stay, but I'm interested enough to want him at AAA for backup next year.
  4. Kevin Costner: The Fielder of Dreams.
  5. I've been thinking about a few scenarios in our minors, but just want to make sure I'm clear on this. If we sign a minor league FA, then add him to our 40 man roster, then that means he goes into the minor league options/arbitration (based on MLB history) for contract situation, right? I'm thinking about Burns and Smith that were just called up and also Mike Jones. Now, Burns and Smith are on the 40-man and Jones is not. So if we don't add Jones to the 40 man, he becomes a FA again. But if we keep any of the three on the 40man, they would need to make the 25 man roster next spring to stay with the club, right (where is that pesky options page, anyway?)? I guess I'm hoping Mike Jones could have one more year to make it up to the MLB level. Not that they couldn't sign him to a minor league contract again, but I have a sneaky suspicion it will be harder to resign him again next year. Seattle has Jake Z and his girlfriend (or was it wife), so that might be an attactive destination.
  6. I think age plays a role in the decision also. If the guy is younger (Braddock, Rogers), I think you still still try as an SP where they have the highest value. Personally, I think the best course for Jones would be as an RP, simply because of age, more than injuries at this point. Once he is proven healthy (which I think he is by now), give him the fastest path to the majors. Then if we proves reliable at the MLB level as an RP, you could stretch him out (perhaps). Going back a ways, but didn't Dan Plesac go to be an RP due to injuries?
  7. Except you just seperated yourself from him by saying you are mature enough to shake hands anyway. I think that is why people talk about maturity levels, not because he was upset.
  8. It doesn't look so bad as a T-shirt, but it did look strange over the white collar shirt Braun had on...not that I'll be giving advice on "What not to wear" any time soon... But my question would be: If I started that line, would it sell? Or is it just selling because Braun started it? (ok, that was two Qs)
  9. Baseball must be totally classless and devoid of sportsmanship. For some reason baseball doesn't. Why don't they? (probably started by the Cardinals) But at least its not the norm for MLB (I know we shook hands with the opposition from T-Ball all the way up to HS). If its the norm and you blow it off, yes it is classless. I'd rather he said nothing and did what he did which is being upset and going inside to be with his team than rant on TV or make up a bunch of fake humility or cliched praise of the other team. I'd rather have a guy upset about the loss than hear the boring cliches anyway. I think this is being made into way more than it really should be. As someone said they don't shake hands after a baseball series and football is pretty non chalant about post game handshakes, the coaches shake hands but everyone else goes their own way. Of course you want players that are upset at losing. Being content with losing is called apathy. But there is a difference between being upset and being a poor sport. Be upset, vow to improve yourself and your team, be disappointed, but that doesn't give you a bye at being a jerk to those that beat you. As I said IMO, he gets a mulligan. But if it continues, his reputation will suffer.
  10. Was that supposed to be in blue? Here I thought they wanted him in the FSL for the rigorous 2-games per week scheduleHaha. I forgot about all the rain-outs they have had. And its not like Huntsville is a cold location...
  11. Now he is hard nosed. Not so much last fall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Even with the injuries he has had, I doubt they see him as a RP. I'm sure that they want him in that nice warm Florida sunshine and to stretch him out to be a SP.
  13. This conversation sounds a lot like the Nelson Cruz conversations of a couple years ago. Lots of power, lots of strikeouts, few walks.
  14. My wife and I got to the game Friday night (5/29) and Hoffman closed the door on a nice 3-2 victory. On the way home, my wife (who isn't a BB fan, but indulges me) says, "Boy, that closer has some intro, huh?" I almost laughed my way off the road. Then had to explain who Hoffman was, etc... But she learns quick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif BTW, I don't remember hearing his name announced that night. It was pretty cool how everything goes quiet, billboards, blinking lights, etc... That alone got me attention before I heard the first bell.
  15. "It's hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them," he said. "I'm a winner. It's not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm a competitor. That's what I do. It doesn't make sense for me to go over and shake somebody's hand." That's the difference between a sport and a school yard fight. At the end of a sport, you congratulate the winner. Because it was a contest and not a brawl. Running away is called poor sportmanship. Personally, I don't care about the "King's" aura (nor Kobe's), but I've heard good things about the person. I would think players of their (and Jordan's) caliber don't lose very often, so its tough to handle (me on the other hand, I learned it often!). So I don't have a problem with a mulligan. But he needs to learn from it and not do it next time. Or the King will earn a big baby moniker...
  16. I heard there was really a hole in the roof there and it was easier to get a sponsership than fix the hole...
  17. What I would really like to see is Kendall backing-up Salome, just so Salome can learn from the vet before going completely on his own. But for that to happen: 1) Salome would need to finish AAA strong on offense and defense 2) Kendall would have to be OK with signing a $1mill deal to play 2 of 5 days and mentor the rook. I give it odds of ~10%
  18. If football ignored steriods, Tony Mandarich would have been a better draft pick than Barry Sanders. None of us would know what a Whizz-anator is. The Williams "brothers" wouldn't be in court suing the NFL because they didn't know what was in their supplement. I'm not really keen on an immediate life-time ban. On the second or third offense, sure. But first time is pretty harsh. No wiggle room there for honest mistakes. I like the salary limitations idea. Hit them where it hurts! The wallet. And I'm really not on board with unlimited past re-testing. My reasoning is that if someone invents some supplement that is later banned, at what point can they be tested and failed? If someone tests positive for a substance that isn't banned until a year later, what do you do with that? Take away any records that person had? Kick him out? Lots of difficult grey areas to cover at that point.
  19. That's hair on Lily's chin? I thought it was a shadow in a deep chin dimple...
  20. If you are going to say the SP needs to miss two games (i.e. two starts), just doc him 2 days pay and not available for 10 games. Don't have to doc him 10 days pay...
  21. Perhaps the Parra mental aspect can be moved to a different thread... I don't see Escobar being traded. Especially with our middle infield in flux right now. If we get Peavy in a trade, one of our SPs needs to go (well, I suppose Parra has a minor league option...). Parra, Bush and Looper are the most tradeable (assuming Gallardo is untouchable). Looper or Bush + ? for Peavy could be interesting. Parra for Peavy I would consider. I think Parra has the most upside of the three, but also the most "flame-out" possibility (injury, unproven).
  22. I'll agree with you on Packer Gear at non-Packer games (or other mis-matches...). But CheeseHeads are true Wisconsinites! There is no sports affiliation for a Cheese Head. But what really cuts my cheese are Cheese Head Posers. Those that desecrate a Cheese Head to fit a non-Wisconsin team (Cubs, Bears, Vikings, etc...) They aught to be boiled in Cheddar!
  23. Agreed. My name rhymes with Jerry, so everytime I hear someone say Hello to me, I want to reply with "Hello Newman" and I've barely watched the show...
  24. Whether its for Peavy or not, I have a feeling JJ is probably going to be traded before Escobar and a good possibility its during this season.
