  1. JJ had a highlight in 2009? I didn't say they were HIGH highlights... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I second the untucking on Busch field! Then the run-off into the dugout also. Very classy!
  2. Find me a good team that isn't interesting I agree that being a winning team is the most interesting reason to watch. But I assumed that the topic author was thinking of other interests than winning/talent. Certain people are just fun to watch. Take Dr. J and Michael Jordan vs. Kobe Bryant. All three are excellent ball players. But Dr. J and MJ had a flair that Kobe just doesn't. An interest that goes beyond talent. In baseball, I think of Ozzie Smith, Willie Mays, OOOOverbay (although that was more of a cult following than him), or Barry Bonds (in a negative way, but still interest). Not to knock Braun and Fielder, but (IMO) that "interest beyond talent" isn't there. Plenty of interest because of talent, however.
  3. How about a bunch of JJ highlights, followed by a mix of JJ/Escobar highlights, ending with Escobar highlights - symbolizing the handoff of SS to Escobar.
  4. Yeah, we started their down-fall! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. However, in my opinion, she received fair compensation for it. Suppose that Howard hit his 200th home run in Milwaukee during a day game while you were at work, but your child was lucky enough to be be at Miller Park and catch the ball. Would you be upset if he/she got to visit the clubhouse of the defending World Series champs, give the ball back to a former MVP, and take home an autographed Ryan Howard baseball? If its worth $10k, yes, I would be upset about it. My business law classes were too long ago to remember the proper terms, but there are laws in place to prevent lop-sided contracts from happening, especially when one side of the contract doesn't understand the value of what they are giving up. And I highly doubt a 12 year old girl understood that. Its a very simple case. That is why the ball in back in her hands.
  6. In 1987, I became hooked as a Brewer's fan. They finished third in the AL-East (granted, they had a better record than the WS champion Twins - not that I'm bitter) and were really out of the playoffs for a while. But I was glued to the radio every game: 13 game winning streak (including the shot-heard 'round Milwaukee), Nieves' no-hitter, Molitor's 39-game hit streak, Yount hit for the cycle, Higuera's 32-inning scoreless streak. That was an interesting year. A few years back, prior to Fielder, we had Overbay... People for some strange reason, loved to yell OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO everytime he batted. But it was fun and interesting. When Hoffman comes into the game, his entrance is interesting. Coffey also in a toned down way. To me, Fielder isn't interesting, he is a great player. I may do something else while other people bat, but I always watch Braun and Fielder. Not because they are interesting, but because they are great. "if you can't be good, at least be interesting." But its still better to be good. I'll take Fielder's excellent play over Overbay's interesting play (no offense to O).
  7. I know there were some rumors that La Russa might call it quits.... Great leaping horny toads! The Cardinals might not be so "classy" next year! Question: Would getting Peterson (or Duncan) as pitching coach help entice FA pitchers?
  8. Covered here previously: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=19660
  9. I'm curious what you mean by this? Angel's frame is short and muscular. His height shouldn't be a detriment while catching. I realize he has had some durability issues, but just curious what about his frame is a negative at catcher?
  10. I understand what you are trying to say, but that is a terrible analogy. For several reasons.
  11. Most teams will utilize 8 starters and around 15 relievers over the course of a major league season. Well, I can go further for AAA BP depth also: Braddock Hinton Dillard Wooten I'm not saying we are set, just that its nice to see something that was a weakness grow to being solid.
  12. Yeah, that's why I had him listed as a "bubble" guy. I expect he will "earn" a spot, but get optioned to AAA anyway.
  13. One of the positives that came out of a tough year, is that it seems that we have improved our bullpen options going into 2010: BP at the end of 2009: Hoffman, Coffey, McClung, Stetter, Villenueva, Vargas*, Weathers*, Smith*, Narveson*, Axford*, Burns*. Plus DeFelice on the DL * - Not on MLB roster on opening day. Assuming a 12-man pitching roster, there are only 7 spots in the BP: Locks: Hoffman, Coffey, Stetter Probable: Vargas, DeFelice Bubble: Villenueva, Axford, McClung, Narveson, Smith Released: I doubt Weathers is back unless some trades happen. I'd be happy with Burns in AAA, but not starting on the 25-man roster. Villenueva: scares me a bit because his lapses have happened a couple times now. Axford: I'm definitely backing this horse. We need some arms with gas. McClung: Not sure what happened this season, but I think he is still worthy of a MLB spot. Maybe included in a trade... Narveson: I really didn't pay much attention to him this year, but had good results. I've heard he has a "good" FB for a lefty... anyone know what he throws? 6'-3" is bigger than I thought he was.. Smith: Did well this year, but I'm not fully convinced yet. More than willing to let him win a spot in ST. Actually, I'm hoping that Suppan ends up in the BP, cause that means we added more SPs to bump him back. He is expensive in ANY role right now, but I think long man/spot starter is his best role. Maybe Narveson even bumps him to the BP... I would love to see another quality experienced arm brought in for cheap, but its nice to have 5 solid guys + 5 possibilities for the last two spots.
  14. Nope, I checked. No one had to say it. Since he was expected to be at AAA when he got hurt, I'm guessing he will be back there. He was hurt early in spring training, so he should be ready to go for ST next year. He had more upside than Chase, so here's hoping he returns strong. Maybe one ends up as the lefty in the bull pen.
  15. Clubs that rushed and got their guys signed early last year overpaid. I doubt that will happen the same way this year. What happened last year was driven by the poor economy outlook, with the worst indicators happening in Nov-Dec. So those that made deals in Oct didn't see it coming. Now that we have established what people will pay for tickets/food/etc... last year, next year should only be better. We hit the bottom this year and I think most teams will expect next year to be better on the economy. Purse-strings will still be tight, but not like last year. Makes it even more impressive that we hit 3 million tickets again in 2009.
  16. So when people list "Wright" at AAA, are we talking about Chase Wright or Brae Wright? If its Chase, where do people expect Brae to end up (after returning from TJ surgery)?
  17. I also don't think Hoffman puts one fan in the seats. Not directly he won't. But people see how the team is put together. Signing Hoffman in the offseason was the big ticket signing. It shows that the Brewers are committed to winning. So signing Hoffman/Looper (yes, Looper didn't work out) shows the fans that we are trying to get back to the playoffs. Remember the '90s where we would sign a bunch of AAAA scrubs and pray someone looked good in ST? Personally, I say offer arby and let Hoffman make the decision. I'm fine if he stays or goes.

  20. And here I thought Butler's "long journey" was going to be about his trip through the minors! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Talk about well travelled.
  21. Gabe Gross to Rays for Josh Butler Boy, is Gabe Gross missed in 2009. If the Brewers don't make this deal, they don't need to deal for Gerut. F. Hmmm... Gross would have helped last year when Hart tanked. But since Gerut and Gwynn's OPS are beginning to converge (Gwynn coming down, Gerut going up) and Butler's ascension to fill the chasm that is our starting pitching depth, I think we need to revisit this grade... Its at least a B+. If Butler makes it to the starting rotation, its an A+
  22. No way the Cubs trade Bradley in their division. To see him highly motivated every time you play them? I'm open to brining in Bradley (seems like he played well for Macha in OAK), but at a greatly reduced rate.
  23. Macha's comments this morning in the JSOnline made me wonder if he was open to Bradely coming to the Brewers (paraphrase: He played hard for me in Oakland). Personally, I'm kind of mixed, but he might come at a bargain rate...
  24. I'm not an advocate of Gamel at 1st. Only as a last resort. Just that Gamel should be there before Green is even considered. Gamel is probably more Overbay-esque than Green would be. Green defensively would be fine at 1-2-3, but offensively would be: 2nd-above average, 3rd-average, 1st-below average.
  25. Better at the end of the season than at the beginning.
