  1. If the Brewers sign another FA pitcher (and I hope they do), I think Narveson and Parra start the year in AAA unless one of them clearly outperforms either Bush or Suppan in the spring. With another signed starter, if Bush and Suppan show they can hold their own during spring training Narveson and Parra will be great depth to have when someone either implodes or gets injured. The bullpen is looking like it will be pretty decent this year and Narveson and Parra would be more useful getting starts in AAA instead of limited bullpen appearances in the majors. This is the best case scenario of course and I'm sure we'll see some surprises.
  2. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4830471 My initial reaction is that the A's got the better end of this deal. Kouzmanoff was a player I wished the Brewer's would have tried to get before last season.
  3. I would recommend the Jewelers Workshop on North High Point Road. There's also a location on North Sherman, but I've never been there. A few years ago I had a custom pearl bracelet made for my wife and it turned out very nice. My wife also got my wedding band from there as well and I am happy with that. They have a good selection of pearls in different colors, sizes and price, and you can chose to custom make the necklace or just pick from what they already have. I thought they were friendly and helpful in coming up with a design for the piece. It's also nice giving money to a locally owned company versus some mall chain. Hope this helps.
  4. They really are only paying 5 million because Silva was do to make 4 million more than Bradley. I look at it this way. Silva was sunk cost as junk that Jack may have just eventually waived. If Bradley actually produces well though in Seattle, they get that production basically for free. If he implodes and acts like an asss, they can just waive him as the same sunk cost Silva was. Based on statistics and potential, Bradley is clearly the better player. But the problem is he brings so much negativity to almost every team that he's played for that it greatly outweighs any potential or cost savings he may offer. I think the Cubs got bailed out a bit on this trade. If it were a straight one for one deal, I would think it was an even deal. Maybe the lack of media and fan scrutiny in Seattle will provide the right environment for Bradly to perform well in and Seattle will be better off. Most of all, I am sad because I already miss the special moments he brought to Wrigley.
  5. I'm actually surprised the Cubs got so much for Bradley. I figured they would get a bad contract, or a few career minor leaguers, and still have to pay the majority of his salary. I can't believe the Mariners are paying $9mil.
  6. We should have never tried him as a starter after the success he had shown as a RP. These are my thoughts exactly. I know McClung wanted to start, but he pitched so well at then end of '08 and start of '09 as a set up man the Brewers should have just left well enough alone. As a reliever, his velocity was up and he was able to be more aggressive with his fastball. When they started him, or used him as just a long reliever, he became much more hittable since he had to tone it down in order to not run out of gas too soon, and his fastball has little movement. He lost that bulldog mentality on the mound and was visibly tired from being overused. I'm surprised the Brewers weren't able to get anything for him in a trade.
  7. Major coup for MLB Network. I cannot think of any reason to watch baseball coverage on ESPN now. Nice.
  8. I'm not a fan of going more than 2 years on a pitcher like Wolf, but if it's in the range of 3 years for $25mil, it's certainly a manageable risk for the Brewers. I thought he would get more since teams don't have to give up picks.
  9. It's not like it was a 100% certainly the Brewers would get a sandwich pick here. The chances Lopez would not accept arbitration and go elsewhere were probably better than staying a Brewer, but why would Melvin role the dice on that? He's been clear about what this team needs to do this off season so why risk not being able to sign a starter just to get a sandwich pick? Weeks is the starter on this team and Lopez is not worth whatever he would get in arbitration as a back up and potential fill in if Weeks gets hurt. The team now knows exactly who much it has to spend on pitching and can still budget for a more cost effective back up plan to Weeks if they feel the need. Lopez could still be signed at a discount if the market does not play out in his favor.
  10. I just got off the phone with my father-in-law and he was floored by Jennings. He used to be a huge Bucks fan, but hasn't paid too much attention these last couple years for obvious reasons. This was the first time he watched them this year and it was the first Bucks game he's watched from start to finish in many years. If Jennings and the Bucks can keep this up and just be competitive, they will bring the casual fan back and make the team relevant again. This could be the perfect storm to get a new arena and keep the team in Milwaukee. Go Bucks!
  11. I agree. Any more than $2M and I would say no way, but 1 year at $1-2M as a solid backup to help the the young guys out would be a great investment. I could see it starting out as maybe a 50/50 split with either Lucroy or Salome getting more playing time as they get more comfortable. This assumes one of them performs well enough to win the job out of spring training. I could see Kendall taking a pay cut over another team's offer to come back to Milwaukee.
  12. This thread has the feel of a French wine tasting.......a bit snobby. Well deserved BA!
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Csj7vMKy4EI "We're Earthlings, Let's Blow Up Earth Things!" Darn right.
  14. My last two cars have been Subaru's ('02 WRX Wagon and now '04 Forester XT) and both have been bulletproof and awesome in the snow. The 09's also seem to be a bit larger across the board. Resale is great and you can always get a turbo if you don't want to be too domesticated.
  15. A first ballot Hall of Famer getting his 600th save in a Brewer uniform is huge. The national spotlight leading up to that game will be a boost for ticket sales, tv ratings and even merchandise. Plus, having "Trevor Time" has to provide at least a little boost in all three categories for the entire season. The signing not only makes baseball sense, but it makes business sense as well. Mark A is no fool. By the way, did anyone know that Hoffman just had the second best season of his career if you use ERA+? 229 was second to 1998's 263 when he finished 2nd in Cy Young and 7th in MVP voting. Just saying.
  16. Agreed, but I think McGehee did a better job with his time including being a bench player. I don't think Gamel should be on the bench waiting for his time to come. He should be in AAA and if the right opportunity presents itself, brought up to be a starter. He is wasted on the bench.
  17. .864 OPS starting at third, but .760 for the season with a ton of strike outs. That number is also inflated by a good start. McGehee had an .859 OPS for the season and that included a slow start with limited playing time off the bench, just like Gamel had at the end of the season. I hope Gamel is all that his prospect status suggests he is, but I don't think any of his numbers have convinced the team he's next years everyday starter at third. A huge spring may chance their minds.
  18. As long as Gamel underperforms and McGehee over performs, there should be no switch at third. If McGehee starts to slip and Gamel starts to show why he is a top prospect, then make it happen, but Gamel needs to earn that spot. McGehee earned the starting spot at third, so why should the team give it to someone who should be better than him? On the field performance at the major league level dictates who gets to start the vast majority of the time. Gamel needs to really show them something to start next year.
  19. Bill Hall's only value to this team was as a late inning defensive replacement. On a team that needs as much offense as possible to make up for the holes our starting pitching digs for us, what real value did he bring to the team? Hall's a good defender, but he's no Brooks Robinson. His defense doesn't come close to outweighing his horrible offense. He became a very expensive paper weight and was clearly showing no signs of improving. Melvin was lucky to find anyone who was willing to take on more than the league minimum of Hall's salary, and he actually got a live player in return. $1.3 million in savings is a lot for the small market Brewers, and as someone mentioned earlier, could mean the re signing of Counsell (or the signing of a similar player). This was a good thing.
  20. Great photo in that article of the jerk that actually threw the beer pointing security to the fall guy. I hate frat boys.
  21. Nite Owl in Milwaukee: A double cheeseburger, large fries and a malt. It sounds easy, but a friend of mine in high school bragged about some place where he ate a 4 pound burrito and thought this challenge was nothing. Well, an hour later he was rolling around in pain in the back seat of my LTD. If you want to up the ante a bit, make it 2 cheeseburgers with the works instead of one double. I did it and felt like a man for a day.
  22. If one of the first questions they ask is "is this visit the result of an auto accident?" don't go there. A treatment schedule that differs depending on whether or not someones car insurance is involve is a red flag. Being on the insurance side of things, I've seen many crooked chiropractors milk patients' insurance in order to get paid for treatment schedules they would not normally recommend to cash customers. With that being said, I see a chiropractor myself, on occasion, and do feel they offer many alternative health benefits if you want to avoid the drug and surgery alternative. My advise would be to avoid any chiropractor who feels they are a medical doctor and feels chiropractic care is the only solution. A good chiropractor knows their limitations and is willing to give the pros and cons of chiropractic treatment. Being the father of a young one myself, if I had second thoughts about traditional treatments for my child, I would ask my family physician. I've found that more doctors are becoming more open minded to alternative treatments and are willing to recommend alternative healers like chiropractors or herbalists. As long as you trust your family doctor, it can't hurt to ask.
  23. Burns up. Just traded for Vargas. Struggling to stay at .500. Why is this team not selling?
  24. For CV, I'm putting the over/under for innings at 2 & 2/3rds and runs given up at 5.
