  1. And the year before if I remember correctly. I hear you guys, but the shoulder thing sure is scary... i have my doubts. This "bad" Davies is worse than the typical bad Davies isn't it? He was 6.57 ERA for 5 April starts in 2017 He was 8.78 ERA for 3 April starts in 2016
  2. That specific play is done the same way every day in almost every game. It only being questioned because of a freak accident. It is questionable because if Perez is paying attention, he knows the pitcher is running. Combine that with the fact he could see the play at 2b wasn't just an easy toss - yeah I blame Perez.
  3. That injury is on Perez. Throw to first where pitcher is jogging down the line. Instead force a play at 2b.
  4. Assuming Corbin has a monster season where teams see him as an ace to acquire for the post-season wouldn't Arizona just tag him with a QO for 2019? If so, we would have to trade at least the equivalent of the draft pick to entice AZ, right? Not sure, I want to trade that much in prospects for a two month rental. I do think if the Brewers add to the starting pitching, it is a guy they think is a #1. Why trade for another #3, when we have a slew of those guys already on the staff.
  5. I had no problem, giving Knebel the 9th. It was the bottom of the order and would make Jeffress available tomorrow if need be. But after the homer and walk it was time to get someone up. Hopefully he is the fourth option until he earns better.
  6. I like Sogard but this is beyond true..... if results aren't taken seriously at AAA, just get rid of the poor sap. Stearns values the 40 man roster and doesn't want to put any players on it before he has to. Once Orf is on the 40 man roster then he'll get every benefit of the doubt also just like Sogard. Can't take Franklin off while on DL right? That is about the only move available, until Nottingham comes up to 25 man roster.
  7. Are we sure Counsell wasn't playing Sogard so much so that he ended up with a longer hit less streak than him? Now no reason to play Sogard.
  8. I would be willing to bet that CC starts him at least half the games for two weeks. He has the excuse that Sogard is a lefty and he wants to load up the lineup against RHPs. Play Saladino until all the lightning has left the bottle.
  9. Someone correct me if I am wrong. But isn't it like this for Sogard? Once cleared waivers, he could have refused the assignment because he had the service time, but since he had an option remaining, if he refused the assignment to the minors he wouldn't have gotten paid.
  10. This isn't a force. We are facing a lefty. Yelich hasn't been particularly effective against them yet this year. Given that and the fact that sometimes Braun comes off the DL very hot, it is worth a start tonight. I don't think anybody sees Braun coming back and starting 5 out of 6 games.
  11. I thought he had a lot of ground ball hits and soft contact even during that hot streak. That said, I'm happy to endure the growing pains because I think it will pay off in the long run. Lucroy was one of the weak links in 2011 but there wasn't really an alternative, and look how that turned out. Every small market team that's trying to contend just a few years after a major rebuild is going to have some weaknesses. I think he really just needs a lot of reps against MLB pitching. Like Gomez and Segura before him, he has the tools but not the maturity or discipline (yet). My memory of Arcia last year was he started hitting everything to right field for 2-3 weeks. Not necessarily screamers, but decent hit over the infield. It really pumped up his average. Then he felt good and pulled a homer and two, but also lost his dump the ball into right field approach. If he would just hit .300 dumping the ball into right field, with a few doubles sprinkled in. I would take that. Once he starts hitting like that he will also get pitched more carefully and may actually get a walk or two. He doesn't have to have a big obp or slugging to help the team, just hitting the ball enough that opposing pitchers will pitch him carefully to get to our pitcher and clear the pitchers spot in lineup.
  12. Whenever a home run hitter hits one, I am not sitting him the next day. He has 2 in three games, they come in spurts, and I sure would hate to miss out on Shaw having put another out. My lineup - Yelich out for Braun to start the day, Aguilar at 1B.
  13. Any reason why Ramirez is at AA instead of AAA? It can't be a roster crunch as they could make room for him (Liz). Is Ramirez more dependent on breaking pitches than I remember, that they don't want him there? I know it isn't as huge a deal to jump to the majors from AA as it once was, but it would seem they would want to see how a change effects him - they have already seen him for a year in Biloxi.
  14. CHICAGO (AP) — Dylan Covey's first major league win was both impressive and worth the wait. Covey tossed seven strong innings, Yoan Moncada and Adam Engel each hit three-run homers and the Chicago White Sox pounded the Baltimore Orioles 11-1 on Wednesday night. Covey (1-1) allowed one run on six hits and struck out eight in his 20th game and 14th start — and longest outing — in the majors.
  15. Suter is at 4.02 ERA as a starter when combining 2017 and 2018. Edit: Exactly 4.00 ERA now that the book is closed today. A little cherry picking leaving out 2016. However, I still think it is reasonable to say that I would rather have him as a reliever, his ERA is under 2 when relieving. With the game changing I guess it doesn't matter that much if he never goes beyond 5 innings but I'm sure hoping a Burnes/Peralta/Woodruff steps up and replaces him in the rotation this year or next. I guess I would say, that using his rookie month+ of work from 2016 would be cherry picking stats. But each to their own.

  17. Yeah, I suspect he got out on purpose so that he can get back to pitching.
  18. And if you look at Shaw's advanced metrics, he's actually been outrageously unlucky...yet his numbers are very very good. Imagine how much better he'd look if he had even average luck. Regression? Maybe. But maybe, one may think without his daughters health weighing on him, he may play even better than last year.
  19. You know a day game after a night game is going to be the backup catcher. It is in the unwritten book. Put it this way, I am assuming Bandy has three starts this month to see what he can do. If you play Pina every day, then he gets worn down like last year when Vogt went out for a month plus.
  20. We've had pitchers get hurt by salad tongs, whose idea was it to let Chase Anderson touch a motorized tool?
  21. I am curious if this enough or if anyone thinks this is short still? Any four players they want that aren't named Hirua, Burnes, Peralta and any catcher they want other than Pina (we won't need one, so force as part of deal). Max of three pitchers selected. So they could take the system's #3, #4, #5, #6, #26 players per mlb.com. I'm sure they wouldn't, just throwing that out there as one objective source. I would think they could assume two major leaguers from there, with one above average player.
