  1. Taylors career ops against righties is .765 in 252 at bats. So may deviate a bunch still. But, I don't see Naquin producing much more for his $4M pricetag, even if we get him for free. So for the price and add in Taylor's defense, then advantage Taylor?... I'd rather save that $4M for the trading deadline to see what we need and what is available, versus spending it now and not having it available later.
  2. And everyone knows that Burnes is the best pitcher in baseball right now. Hence, you would get better than full value for him, as he will be the face of the franchise for marketing. Trading with two years left just gives you that much more surplus to get back in a trade and brings more potential trading partners into negotiations. So you would still have Woodruff, Lauer, Peralta, Houser, Ashby, and Small for the rotation in 2023. Plus the haul for Burnes more than likely would have at least one prized starting pitcher practically ready for the majors. I'm not saying it would be my first choice, but I would definitely not rule out talking to people about what package they would send us for any of Burnes/Woodruff/Lauer/Houser during the offseason.
  3. Yes, keep back some payroll budget for the midseason pickups. Allows you to see which player(s) aren't producing / injured.
  4. I never answered the original question. Put me down for one of Woodruff or Burnes should be traded this offseason. Obviously Burnes is going to be worth more, so have to gauge your return. (I don't think we get the value you need from Lauer/Houser to want to trade them, plus they are cheaper) Small market teams have to trade from surplus to replenish the system / fill holes - and when that surplus starts to make big bucks even if they are in arby, that just reinforces that idea. Do you even get a draft pick anymore if you lose your guy to free agency? If so where is that pick located?
  5. I just saw from his stats that he has played some CF in the minors. So just confirming. Obviously you hope Frelick/Mitchell are ready sooner than later also and have CF in hand if Taylor can't hit enough. I think I just saw Frelick was promoted to AA.
  6. It isn't like you are replacing great players with rookies. I think you can realistically expect one of Wiemer, Mitchell or Frelick (maybe mid-season) to be ready for full-time play if need be in 2023. So you go into 2023 with Yelich, Renfroe/stopgap FA, Taylor, Rookie, Rookie/Util as your OFs. I think Renfroe has a last arby year left per BR, so we can keep him or sign another short term fill guy for a year. Save payroll on Cain and Cutch. The issue is if Wiemer is starting, can he play CF? I don't follow closely enough to know that. May make Taylor starting CF by default. By next year, we should know if we are comfortable with that or not.
  7. The struggling was all part of the plan to acquire Adames.
  8. How does the International League stack up regarding hitter vs pitcher parks? I know in the past we were in the hitter paradise PCL.

  12. MB - 90 StLC - 88 CC - 78 CR - 76 PP - 65 MVP - Burnes Cy Young - Burnes MSP - McCutcheon (one very good year left in the tank) MDP - Yelich (again) UtR - Caratini Rookie - Feliciano (or some bullpen guy, right? - don't see Small getting major time quite yet) Edit: Don't think Ashby will be consistent enough to win RoY. I'm guessing he pitches great for four games in a row and then has a stinker that will kill the stats. Rinse and repeat.
  13. Doubt McCutchen will be able to top this.? Tue, April 5, 2022, 11:46 AM St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols said Monday he’s filing for divorce from his wife, Deidre, who had a brain tumor removed just days ago. https://www.yahoo.com/news/albert-pujols-says-hes-divorcing-154654189.html
  14. Agreed. The best thing about this forum was the moderation always keeping the focus on the discussion and keeping internet speak off the site. I am not a fan of any buttons for like/dislike or anything else like that. There are plenty of other places around the web for that. They are useful if you want to acknowledge a good or funny post but don't have anything substantive to add and don't want to clutter the board too much. We can probably do with like, +1, Yikes and Woah Solvdd. The negative ones should be skipped in favor of actual discussion. "Like" button pushed.
  15. Bingo. That's 5 MORE points than a "relevant" margin according to NET...in a low scoring game.... This is one of my favorite Badger teams of all-time. No team will top the '03 team, but that's for personal reasons (I got my hand in Sports Illustrated after storming the court after beating Illinois for the conference championship...remember when magazines were a thing?). The '13 team is also a favorite, although that's because every other Wisconsin "fan" hates that team and they went 4-0 against the National runner-up Michigan and Offensive Efficiency #1 Indiana that year. The 3 Final 4 teams are pretty high on my list too. Also: Big Kudos to Rashard Griffith, Michael Finley and Howard Moore...3 college graduates who Scott Van Pelt recognized tonight for getting their degree. So, Gard's job was in jeopardy at some point?!?!?! Seriously?!?!? For those with the attention span of a gnat, not by the UW AD office.
  16. Notice: Joey Wiemer update and reflecting on 2021 and bringing it into this season… https://www.mlb.com/brewers/video/ethan-small-on-his-progression cough cough I already have that linked in the minor league media thread. This thread is on winter ball.

These days, those same officials are calling him the best defender in the system, ahead of speedy outfielders like Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell. His range has improved on the left side, while his hands and actions remain at least above average. To be clear, a move to second could still be possible if Turang bumps up against Willy Adames as early as this summer. But right now, he could likely slip right into the Brewers lineup at short, and the group wouldn’t skip a beat defensively.

  20. So if an owner turns down $1.5B for his team because it is worth more, should be an apples to apples comparison to that, right? If Soto turned down $350M, because he thinks he can make $450M, why should that be any different? You just don't hear about the owners turning down offers for their team because they know they are printing money and aren't going to sell. Edit: That doesn't mean I am on the players side, just think Soto turning down money is not really a fair comparison to be used "against the players".
  21. Mark Ciardi, pitcher for the Brewers ended up being a film producer. He has quite a list of movie credits, usually sports movies. For those not as old: Ciardi played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1987. He opened the season on the Milwaukee Brewers roster in which they started the season with 13 consecutive wins, winning the eighth game in that streak against the Orioles. That winning streak is a record that still stands today. Ciardi remained in the big leagues for one month that year then retired the following year due to a shoulder injury. Saw Ciardi mention is this article about Jim Morris: https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/jim-morris-story-stars-dennis-quaid-in-the-rookie?partnerId=zh-20220223-550767-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20220223-550767-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=3OWtn7Wsl1eSi3Ln3NwrSHmFuEEnLZL2VhmTSPZ466Zh5tfNVKSGVXcgV9TM%2BPbE&bt_ts=1645625972461
  22. https://theathletic.com/3141039/2022/02/21/brewers-minor-leaguer-tyler-gillies-worried-that-cancer-would-take-his-life-now-hes-reporting-to-camp/ Tyler Gillies will report to minor league camp. Cleared from Hodgkin lymphoma. Just a bit of the article Gillies’ parents braced for the possibility the Brewers would release him. Cruel as it would’ve been, they said they would have understood the move; baseball is a business and some businesses don’t run on feelings. The release they feared still hasn’t come. Instead, boxes of gear, including the Brewers uniform top with the new logo in 2020 that he never got to wear in a clubhouse kept showing up at his doorstep, and personal notes arriving on his phone. A day or two after Gillies informed the organization of his initial diagnosis, Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns called Gillies, encouraged him to focus on getting healthy and offered help. “I was just like, ‘Wow, this is a man and an organization that cares,’” Gillies’ mother, Sharon, said. “It was the holidays, the middle of the offseason. That really helped Tyler’s mindset. It would’ve been easy to say, ‘Who is Tyler in the grand scheme of things?’” Gillies is not a top prospect. He’s not on any “just missed” lists, either. But he’s the kind of pitcher the Brewers over the last couple of years have succeeded in developing: a late-bloomer from an independent league with good velocity, and with a tweak here or there, look out.
  23. So you are saying you have highheat information that the Brewers have a trade for Matt Olson all locked up?
  24. Seems to me he must be pretty equivalent to Yelich for LF defense, which would mean to me that Yelich should more often than not be the DH, especially if he is hitting okay, to protect his back and other ailments. If he isn't hitting, then play Yelich in the LF until you can put him on the DL.
  25. I think Taylor will be starting a lot in CF as it stands. No worries about him getting playing time. I hope we are more focused on getting a bat, versus where it plays. I do like the idea to get a lefty bat to mix into the OF (is the central still basically all righties?), to allow Yelich to DH. And like the thought he can play 1B if Tellez doesn't pan out. But, I wouldn't want a two year deal on Rosario, and that is probably what it would take. I would rather spend more and getting a better bat. Come on down Nelson Cruz.
