  1. Thanks. Another question then. If the min wage for 25 man roster is $480K, is there a min wage for the 40 man roster?
  2. Thanks, missed that. I assume the Brewers will offer arbitration then.
  3. Big bump. I bumped because I heard Brian Anderson on TV last night mention Narveson when they were talking about pitchers for next year. I saw Rosiak (JS) mention Narveson in a chat a week ago or so also (pending health). I was wondering if something came out that I missed about his progress/prognosis or if they were just thinking that its an injury and everyone comes back in a year nowadays.
  4. Loe made $2.175M this year, so I would assume ~$2.9M in his last year of arby in 2013.
  5. Does a minor leaguer on the 40 man roster get paid more than if he isn't on it?
  6. Does a minor leaguer on the 40 man roster get paid more than if he isn't on it?
  7. $9.5M is the amount of his contract for the full 2012 season. I would consider "on the hook" to be the amount he is still owed on that contract after he is released or approx $2.3M plus the $1.5M buyout.
  8. The model won't work for the Brewers if they sign free agent players to big, long term contracts when they have pre-arby players that should project to the same position(s). If Hart had similar value and was a shortstop, yes the Brewers should have signed him to an extension yesterday. But the Brewers have some pre-arby corner OF / 1B that project to be ready for MLB in 2014. And if they all flop for some reason, ARam could/should play 1B.
  9. It doesn't matter if he's claimed, they wouldn't have to give him up if the claiming team doesn't offer anything they deem of value. It does matter if he's claimed, if he passes through the Brewers can trade him to anybody as opposed to only the claiming team. C'mon man But if no one claimed him, then that could also mean there is less interest in him that people expected.
  10. I'm sure the Brewers are on the hook. And I doubt the Brewers have paid the buyout already (time value of money) unless their was contract language "upon release it comes due in full immediately".
  11. No, the worst that can happen is they have a $13M pitcher that is injured and either doesn't pitch at all and/or pitches poorly until he is finally DL'd.
  12. Well it seems our final record will put us in a draft pick slot from 6 to 15. The draft gurus know how much difference that means, but I guess I would rather the Brewers battle to .500 than to totally roll over.
  13. In my mind, I would keep Marcum unless I got at least some type of real prospect (plus the salary relief). If you don't get a prospect that is worth anything at all, I would just keep Marcum on the off chance he shows so much in Sept that he justifies a QO. You never know, plus the Dodgers are probably starting to feel a little desperate.
  14. Don't the Brewers get salary relief if Wolf is picked up to the extent of - prorated minimum salary ($480K)? So they would save approx $80K.
  15. My rotation: Gallardo Fiers Estrada Rogers Who showed best in Arizona: Peralta/Narveson/Thornburg/Burgos And since I am using 2013 to figure out which young pitchers are part of the Brewers 2014 playoff run, I will trade Hart. This also will give Segura and Gamel a year to prove themselves or be replaced by a FA with the money I saved in 2013. I'm hoping the attendance doesn't drop off dramatically as it would seem that we have enough young pitchers that if 1-2 have problems, we can rotate another guy in and be average. Melvin: Gallardo Greinke - long term, price "drops" to 6 for $120M FA / Marcum - one year Fiers Rogers/Estrada/Narveson/Peralta/Thornburg/Burgos
  16. I don't know how much the gap is closing. Yes, the Brewers triple their TV contract, which is an increase of $20M. But everyone's TV contract is going up and the Dodgers increase I'm sure is more than $20M. So how does that close the gap? If the big markets do hold their budget to the luxury tax, that just means those owners pull in that much more net profits or decide to put it into their minor league system, scouting, foreign player postings, etc.
  17. I know this is kin to swearing, but we could have ran Claudio Vargas out there if we didn't want to rush the kids and he would have given us what Wolf did (or more).
  18. They should have thrown him in the pen three weeks ago. Couldn't have been too much worse than what we were using and it was possible he could have done something knowing he only had to pitch an inning. Plus if he would have pitched halfway decent, maybe some sucker would have picked him and pick up next year's buyout.
  19. Why? Is the AL Central THAT difficult? I think sometimes these moves are exaggerated. It didn't really do Greinke "wonders," as he didn't see a huge spike in numbers making that same move. I don't think the Royals, Twins, White Sox, and Tigers are a whole lot more dangerous than the Cardinals, Reds, Pirates and the Cubs. In fact the first three of those teams are pretty damn good, and the Cubs have some young pieces they're starting to bring up. Well someone mentioned ERA, which obviously will look betting in the NL facing a pitcher instead of a DH. With the Astros moving out and the Pirates improvement, I assume there will be less mentioning of an NL Central "effect" in the future.
  20. Sorry to keep going down this road, but I just saw this article, which is pertinent and does say there is such a thing as clutch, at least how I define it (not letting pressure ruin your performance). http://olympics.time.com/2012/07/19/lolo-jones-olympic-hurdler/
  21. Loe and Parra are in the 3rd year of arby and I don't consider them to be "cheap". This year Loe was $2.175M and Parra was $1.2M - so my guess is $2.8M and $1.8M for 2013. But they can't get rid of everybody, so they are probably back. Axford has to be definitely back, as a first year arby guy (I have no idea what he will get). I think they sign one "Riske" type free agent bullpen guy and use the minors and NRIs to complete the bullpen.
  22. I would definitely try to sign Marcum to a one year make-good deal (but not $13M) as I would hope that would be the perfect bridge to the young guys in the minors and he could very well end up as trade bait or comp pick.
  23. If you cant prove something exists that is NOT proof that is does not exist. I guess I was wondering what type of documentation there is to track the clutch or lack of clutch? It seems to me if they use any stats, it would be one-sided. If you use batting stats, how does that account for the pitcher's level of stress or clutch in that situation? Maybe the batter is feeling stress and would swing weakly on a good pitch, but the pitcher is also feeling the pressure and throws a fat pitch up there or walks the batter.
  24. Not disecting, just clarifying. I have Lucroy at $1.9M next year. Estrada is still in his last year of cheap = $570K (give or take what the Brewers decide to pay him). Narveson will be interesting as he will be in his first year of arby and if he is in as bad a shape that some imply here, then the Brewers won't offer arby and he would be a free agent I believe. If the Brewers think he would eventually get back to health and don't want to risk losing him, they could offer arby and pay $1.5M (guess)..... Maybe I am wrong on this scenario.
  25. I really can't see them signing Veras. Parra and Loe will be in their last year of arby, so it will be interesting if the Brewers want to go that route. Can't see them keeping all three or losing all three, so it will be interesting who they value and at what price.
