  1. Exactly. If the Brewers are out of it by mid-year, I would be happy to trade ARam for nothing. The Brewers sucked his value of his contract dry last year. So if someone does pick up his contract and the $16M owed for 2014, they definitely aren't giving the Brewers anything back for prospects. And I hope the Brewers don't pay too big of a chunk just to get a prospect unless he plays 3B. Lohse contract isn't backloaded (at least how I read it). The $7M deferred from this years pay would still be on the Brewers to pay in 2016-8 (it is still earned this year, just paid later). The $11M per year for two more years, wouldn't scare off half the teams. So assuming he is pitching decent up to the trading deadline, he would have value.
  2. The 2015 vesting option might scare away teams that don't have a clear starter at 2B (and why would a team with a starter trade for Rickie unless we paid all of his contract). The vesting option doesn't disappear from his contract if he is traded. I just don't see him being very movable. Unless some rich team has a late need at 2B. I really don't know why they don't tell Weeks he has a week off except for the last-guy-left pinch hitter/runner, but after that time he will start again. See if he can reset himself if he knows he won't be playing much.
  3. That was the strength under Jack Z, with higher draft picks than what we have had since then - so hard to say that we could just replicate that strategy.
  4. I know the play is in front of ARam, but Lucroy was waving him to go and he has an even better view, so I would have went to 3rd too. Lucroy shouldn't signal anything it was too close. To me Lucroy is the main culprit of the night.
  5. Thank you. Works out for our dates perfectly.
  6. I don't think "signability" is as big a deal as it used to be. There is a draft pool of money you can use. So the kid can't just say I am going to college unless I get $X, knowing that the Yankees will give him that at the end of the first round despite where he was drafted. Now if they do that, they risk not having money to sign anyone else.
  7. Where do you see/find info on educator days?
  8. How would relaying it into RRR or the dugout help? Even if there is a camera and the dugout knows a curve is coming, how does the batter get the info in time? Maybe I am missing something. Doesn't the hitter need instant info? Hence a light on the scoreboard or some other signal. Which is why with all the cameras around nowadays, I doubt some signal that was used consistently would go unnoticed.
  9. 14-14. Hanging around.
  10. Not that it still isn't a huge steal, but it would be 10 starts of Greinke and a compensation pick for Segura+.
  11. I'll kick in the cost of the bag of balls if it gets rid of Gonzalez. I wouldn't mind if there was some hustle there, but there isn't - and I don't think you can blame injuries either. The decision on Bianchi has to be close, eh?
  12. I'm sure it is my imagination, but it seems when he has struggled and been given a day or two off, he comes back pretty strong. I assume Josh Prince could play 2B or a C to 1B and Betancourt to 2B for a day or two.
  13. When comparing contracts you also have to keep in mind the local costs. While Milwaukee has almost as many tvs as San Diego, what are the costs in San Diego? In other words, advertisers are willing to pay more for ad space there as every other cost of doing business is higher out there. Whereas costs are lower in Wisconsin, hence the advertisers aren't going to pay as much for a 30 second spot as another team. They will pay what the market will bear. I think that is killing us more than how many tvs there are, as I think the actual viewership in Wisconsin of the Brewers is a lot higher than other teams. But obviously there is still a lot of room for the Brewers to maximize their media revenues.
  14. I would suggest that you read up sports psychology if you really believe that to be true. The only difference between players of similar natural ability performing or not is whatever is going on in their head and baseball is tough to deal with, it's the only sport where everyone fails a constant rate. The difference between a great hitter offensive player and poor offensive player is only .1... 10%, think about how talented/good all professional baseball players in the majors or not really are. Seems to me if the player isn't mentally tough enough to handle being sent to AAA to work on his stuff, then you trust him to react well with the pressure of the playoffs? If Fiers was really young, sure I manage his confidence. It is past that point. He can handle it or he can't, be nice to find out before he is put in a more pressure situation in the big leagues.
  15. What if he is only brought up for a month and half and sent back down when Hart comes back? That should still mean 6 years of control when he is brought up fulltime. Segura had more MLB time last year, and the Brewers have six years of control starting this year. Does the time of year when brought up change when the clock starts?
  16. I think you would be crazy to attempt an extension until after the 2014 season. Let's just see if he can keep his average up and stay healthy for two years in MLB. You would still have one very cheap pre-arby year to buyout as the incentive for Segura to sign the extension.
  17. Somehow I don't think that would lead to anything good. Sure would make me feel good though if I was the Dodgers.
  18. I am not convinced Melvin will actually cut Yuni. I really want to believe he will. I have no faith he will. I have a question. Is Yuni really being paid $900K for this season? If so, why? Is there a veteran minimum wage that is more than the $490K? I know he had a decent spring training, but I highly doubt there was going to be a bidding war for him. Seems to me that a lower amount would have been just fine, especially considering I hope that he is the one cut when Hart comes back.
  19. I agree that our record is because of pitching, but I don't have any big problem with how DM put it together. It is what it is and I am still expecting a decent season of pitching. But I do think he should have been able to put together a better plan when Gamel went down for the season. He had time. By acquiring Yuni that cements that Gonzalez has to play the corners and will be starting for approx six weeks at 1B. If you acquire a corner infielder, then Gonzalez is the backup middle fielder. You can cut a corner infielder just as easily as Yuni when Hart comes off the DL.
  20. Roster mgmt - and how do you free up a spot to add a bullpen guy IF Axford is the only one stinking it up. Let's make it hard, and assume Axford isn't DL'd with a tired arm and the Brewers for whatever reason don't want to move Henderson, etc into the closer spot. Kintzler have an option to be sent down without losing him?
  21. Yo didn't hit because the bench sucks (I mean, it might, but that wasn't the reason). He hit because the bench was short and RR didn't want to burn a hitter in that situation. Also, most teams don't have particularly strong benches. If the guys on the bench were good enough, they'd be starters. Exactly. There were two outs. I wouldn't burn a bench guy either. Plus Gallardo at least used to be someone that could hit a mistake.
  22. Did you want to reconsider any of your response? I thought for sure I just saw a posting that Rogers to the DL.
  23. At this point I would not have assumed that Lohse would have signed with someone before June 1. So yes, we may have given the Cardinals a pick when they may not have ended up with one. Who else would have signed him instead of trying the Dodgers castoffs first? And if I were Lohse once the season started, you might as well wait. Your price will go up on June 1 (prorated 2013), and you can make sure the team you are signing with has a chance at the postseason this year (if that was important to him).
  24. I would highly doubt it as he's out of options and we already have two other lefties in the bullpen. Frankly, based on business and not talent I'd bet Narvy is more a lock to start than even Estrada at this point. Based on business, Estrada is making more than a million more than Narvy. Narveson is not taking his starting spot.
  25. Ok, but what I mean is does the money have to be used on the draft..period. If you don't sign any early round draft picks can you use the money in the FA market in the off season, or to offer and extension to a current player, or pay off debt, or pocket it, etc? It is like the NFL where you only have so much money you can spend on draft picks. You don't have to spend it - but if you try to save money on the draft you are restricting yourself to players you know will sign for slot or less. Yes the draft money comes from the coffers of the team, and is only small part of the whole corporate budget. So if they don't spend it on draft picks they could spend it on other items like free agency, foreign signings, etc. I am just going to assume the Brewers would have and the Cardinals will sign(ed) a player like Arnett, Jones, Peterson, Gold.....
