  1. I wouldn't concede that Hart is clearly better hitter than McGehee as you never know when Hart will go flailing at low, outside pitches for a few months in a row. But boy has McGehee looked bad lately, defense and offense.
  2. 14-13. Still in striking distance.
  3. You don't think that someone would just take a whole set of clues that was intended for everyone so that they had it for themselves?.....
  4. Against the Brewers, yes.
  5. RR has stated as recently as a day or two ago that he thinks Lucroy is good at 8. But said if Gomez is playing that he would be 8. They should have him at 6. Who cares if there is a black hole 7-9. Get Lucroy up to cash in any runners from the meat of the order.
  6. Mark it down. Kiss of death. That's his manager's words, not mine. My point isn't that dealing Villanueva was a bad idea necessarily but that the timing insured minimal return. Yes, sorry didn't mean to leave your name on it.
  7. Would the Brewers keep Gomez as "just" a bench player at what he will make after arby next year? If he puts another year of starting in this year, he will get?.... $2.5M?...
  8. Why? Players that are not on the 25 man sit in the dugout, like Hart before he was officially activated. Wouldn't it be basically the same circumstances? I assume the league has a policy against just anyone being in the dugout, but he would have a reason. Maybe the Dodgers should start selling dugout seats to celebrities to handle their cash flow problems. Just think what press Charlie Sheen would have going crazy in the the dugout.
  9. I'm not anal on spelling, but this is pretty funny as it is basically the opposite of your intentions.... Or maybe you know more about the activities/health of those players.....
  10. 15-14 or 15-13 (with rainout).
  11. Yeah, but the Royals forced the Brewers to take Betancourt. So that is a sunk cost. So if you want to replace him you are taking on even more payroll for a negligible increase in production (from a scrap heap player). Seeing as how Betancourt is 29, I was willing to see how his and the team's season played out and then do a trade in July if the circumstances dictated it.
  12. Why will the Dodgers trade Furcal? Is the divorce still a big financial issue for the Dodgers? If so, maybe they need to shed salary. They could take Betancourt (we'd pay some) and prospects and still sell that they are trying to win. Furcal is down for $13M for the year, so they would save $5-$6M depending on how soon.
  13. In my mind you can double the value of games versus Cincy since I think they are clearly the team to beat for the division. So it does hurt to have Greinke miss a game versus the Reds.
  14. Fairness in information - I'm not a catcher. But, I don't see the big deal about him catching the new pitchers. You call for the inside fastball, you catch it. Nobody is throwing a knuckleball. As for Lucroy learning their tendencies and preferences - isn't that all book work that is done in the clubhouse anyways?
  15. I'll take the better chance to accumulate more wins and take the wildcard if that gets us into the playoffs.
  16. Yeah, but Fielder had his best year by far the first year of his two-year deal. We'll see how he handles a true contract year.
  17. We do know that Prince's best year was the first year of a two-year contract. So one could speculate that he plays better when he isn't thinking about a contract. Personally, I think the Brewers would have won at $14.5M, if Boras went more than $16M, but would it have been worth it?
  18. Maybe playing multiple positions won't improve his defense at any one spot, but it isn't like he is going to backtrack because one day he plays 3rd and the next he plays RF. I hope they do this to get him starting two games a week. Get another lefty bat in there.
  19. There was no reason for KC to retain Betancourt after acquiring Escobar. You have to think that the Brewers had to take him on to facilitate the trade. I'm pretty hopeful that Melvin won't let the $3M pricetag lock him into not looking for better options. But could see him waiting until June to make sure that no other need arises that would be even more of a priority. Probably doesn't have a lot of budget or bullets left to use anymore and it might be wise to let the season play out a little.
  20. So he will cost the Brewers $3M next year. Are we sure that the Seattle subsidy money follows Betancourt? Or could the Royals be pocketing it?
  21. I don't know how much the Pirates have currently for the ML roster payroll, but maybe they were hinted at from above they had to spend more on the 25 man roster assuming they are getting quite a bit of the Yankee luxury tax. In which case nobody from the media ever looks at draft costs when saying how much teams are spending.
  22. Yes that is the general rule but supply is not increasing in this scenario it is decreasing while demand is staying the same so the price will increase. I appreciate the knowledge of which teams will have openings and money, and I believe what you are referring to is that Pujols will set the market, from which Fielder could benefit from (kind of like arbitration). Which may work if teams are dumb enough to let that happen. But I still think you have the supply part of supply-and-demand backwards.
