  1. I think that would probably be in reference to being a "buyer", especially of pitchers. A seller now, gets alot more for a bullpen arm then you would get in the offseason.
  2. I don't think we would have to throw in anything to get Dunn for Hart. I see this as a pretty even swap. Dunn only signed a one year deal, right? Would he be a class B and sandwich pick free agent? I don't see any problems with Braun going to RF midyear. Hart is cheaper even after the 2nd and 3rd year of arbitration and would be under Washington's control through 2011. Assuming the Brewers won't resign Dunn, then the Brewers are searching for an OF during the offseason. I'm on board for the trade, but do realize that we may end up overpaying for an OF during the offseason. I'm not one of those that is saying to move Gamel to OF, but this scenario would be perfect for that.
  3. Did I miss that the Brewers redid their contract with FSN? Otherwise, it isn't like they are going to be able to spend more because ratings are higher.
  4. Does anyone foresee Kendall doing a Counsell? He goes from a $4M+ player and after no one signs him, he comes back to the team at a $1M for one more bridge season (until Salome/Lucroy). He plays 60% and Rivera gets 40%. Or would he just retire before only playing for a million. He seems like a guy that just wants to make sure that wherever he ends up he gets a majority of the starts. The Brewers could and probably would offer him that.
  5. That is very funny and timely. But I thought it was Deputy GM, Ryan Braun.
  6. Record: 14-12 Tiebreaker: 19
  7. No team will claim his contract obviously, unless the Yankees feel they haven't spent enough money on contracts yet this year. If Hall refuses assignment, I don't believe that somehow the Brewers get out of his contract, AFAIK, he will still be paid his contract.
  8. I care about the hitters. I'm not talking specifically about a Holliday trade, but if it is more economical financially to win a game 6-5 than to win a game 5-4, then take that route. In other words, even if the hitting is holding up, if pitching is more expensive comparatively, then improve the runs scored by improving the positions that are weaknesses - like Hart.
  9. How long would he be out if he has surgery? In this instance it seems to me if he has surgery, he wouldn't be recovered before his 3-year contract with the Brewers would be over. So it is a no-brainer for the Brewers to try rehab and then try rehab again (assuming Riske isn't going to fight for surgery), because if it comes to surgery he (how long for surgery?) will never pitch again for the Brewers.
  10. Hart's issues have been since the middle of last year, not going on three years. Plus we are talking about platooning Hall, not benching him. Hart doesn't have a split versus righties that Hall has, in fact his splits show that he is doing better against righties so far this year. If there was a "Gamel" behind Hart, maybe we would be hearing about Hart's slump.
  11. Replay? I'm not familiar with the system, but if it is like what tennis uses for in/out there is no replay for umps to look at. I assume the ump would have a handheld wireless guage that would light up (and probably make a specific sound) for a ball or strike for that throw. It wouldn't take much longer, if at all, for the ref to say ball or strike than he currently does. Then all you would need is some kid from MIT to hack the system and start controlling the ball and strike calls.
  12. Look at it this way, now that the Brewers got to the playoffs and have that off our back, maybe mgmt can take a more long-term focus as you want for future trades. But for me, making the playoffs, even in a one and done was worth the price even if LaPorta is an allstar for a decade. There are a bunch of teams every year that have the talent to get to the playoffs, but one thing or another derails their season - so I don't assume that even if we hold onto our best prospects that will ever mean that the Brewers will be in the playoffs in that timespan. So when you are in a good position like the Brewers were last year with only the Cubs in the Central and not many teams showing they would be wildcard contenders, then a lopsided trade may have to be made.
  13. Either way, the Brewers are only going to be paying basically the league minimum if he comes here. And either way, I don't see the Brewers picking him up.
  14. They could just send Swindle back down, he has options.
  15. I think Suppan has until early June and then the plug will be pulled to give a AAA guy or McClung a chance while Suppan is healing some "injury". If that guy doesn't earn the spot than Suppan will be back in the rotation for another month, until they are ready to experiment again. My only hope is that if the Brewers are down 5-0 early that Macha makes Suppan keep pitching until he gets his 110 pitches in, even if he gives up 9 runs doing it. Might as well save the pen as much as possible and let Suppan eat the ERA.
  16. Agreed on Rivera. The few games that Prince does get off, I would assume they would be against the lefties that have shown they are especially tough on Prince, so I would hope that Rivera, a right handed stick, gets the call and not Nelson as others are mentioning in their posts. Nelson's spot starts will be coming in for Hart, imo.
  17. Well then just use the checks that the credit card companies give you to use. You just end up paying the advance fee. Obviously the player wasn't smart for putting all his eggs in one basket.
  18. You're right. But a third baseman is always diving for balls. Seems to me that would rattle around the brain a quite a bit. How many times is a third baseman going to dive for a ball during the course of a season? That isn't taking into account any plays at the plate, other baserunning events, or getting hitting by a pitch too close to the cranium.
  19. Unless he was exaggerating his problems or gambled away all of his money, there is no way in hell a family man should be out playing baseball again. That is just not responsible in my opinion.
  20. I assume the $5.4M of salaries unlikely to be paid represents the people sent to the minors that will not make $400K. Confirm? What represents the $6.75M of salaries likely to be paid this year other than Gagne? September callup pay? Incentives? - you mentioned Looper and I see you put Hoffman's total pay assuming incentives earned already.
  21. I don't think the Brewers will be skipping the #5 guy as much as other teams, considering they will be trying to keep an eye on Gallardo and Parras' innings.
  22. Agreed +1. No not all of the Red Sox past-their-prime signees will pan out, but if one or two do for the price they paid, they would have done well. I believe it is the Eastcoast Sports Programming Network for a reason, but in this case present another team to be in that top 3.
  23. In that situation, does the player sign the contrat and the team waits to send it in to the MLB office? Or does the player wait to actually sign the contract? If you have the player sign at a later date, that would be a little risky that some team comes a knocking with a bigger contract for whatever reason, and Looper goes back on his word. Considering Looper was the last decent pitcher out there (wasn't he?), you never know.
  24. At $950K, I'm not sure the Brewers would feel compelled to let him keep sucking on the major league roster. I'm thinking they would DFA.
