  1. The link also said he'd probably want that option waived so he could become a FA at year's end. That works for me. This needs to happen.
  2. This needs to happen. Honestly I think it's the one player available who would put the Brewers over the top. And with A-Ram's biggest concern being moving his family, Milwaukee would be a welcome fit for him I'd imagine. Buy him Mark.
  3. There's every bit of reason for there to be truth to this rumor, at least the Thornton part. With the trade the White Sox made earlier today, they have 4 lefties in their bullpen. Thornton is gonna be moved, it's just a matter of where. And with so few LH relievers on the market right now, it's fair to say the Brewers would be interested.
  4. I wish Schroeder's vacation would become permanent.
  5. And if it's too hard to ask Counsel to take an early retirement then they'll just have to DFA Betancourt.
  6. Kotsay is so far down the list of problems at this point, I'd go so far to say he's an asset. The real problem is having Betancourt and McGehee in the starting lineup and having no usable backups at their positions. At the very least Melvin must pick up a serviceable SS to play everyday and bring up Green to play 3B. I know Counsel just picked up the game winning sac fly but a shallow fly ball seems to be his maximum capability at this point. He was a beneficiary of circumstance today. I think you trade for a SS, Betancourt takes to the bench and Counsel rides off into the sunset as a coach in some capacity.
  7. If anything I think the author is too kind in suggesting that the current roster composition might just work. Personally, I wish Doug Melvin would wise up and make some dramatic changes. Unfortunately I don't see it happening.
  8. Fielder, Braun, and Weeks elected as NL starters. Fielder wound up winning the nod at 1B outright, passed Pujols.
  9. The Brewers should ask him to retire and then pay the difference left on his contract for him to be an infield coach or special instructor.
  10. So how long until we hear of a Gallardo injury? He just doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders.
  11. I guess there was a credible reason.
  12. Tony Plush is a blast to watch. I just hope he's not hiding an injury right now. I know he's still feeling that one.
  13. The Crew is 5-1 in their last 6 and have erased that 0-4 start!
  14. Atta boy Casey! Bet that one felt good after the early struggles.
  15. Actually I'm elated to see a sign of some advance scouting.
  16. I'm thrilled that Braunie just hit that bomb! Not thrilled about that called strike the pitch before which Yo hasn't gotten once. And it's cost Gallardo quite a bit.
  17. Excellent analysis and graph of Wolf's pitch location last night by Jim Breen on the Bernie's Crew blog... http://www.jsonline.com/b.../fanblogs/119530634.html Bottom line: If Wolf can get the ball down, he'll be fine. The question is whether or not he'll have the needed control going forward. You'd think there would be something he could work on with Kranitz mechanically to get on top of his pitches.
  18. Just to throw another example out there... Didn't Giants closer Brian Wilson also strain an oblique? He's back in the majors already suffering his strain on March 19th. Hart's original strain came on February 26th. He re-aggravated it on March 5th. At the minimum, Wilson's injury came a full 2 weeks after Hart's final tweak yet he's back at full go.
  19. Weren't there a few songs related to the 1982 and 1987 Brewers? You know, songs that were used in the highlight videos from those seasons. Or songs associated with individual players from those years? If anyone remembers anything please post the name of the song here.
  20. I'm so bringing peanut butter bacon cookies.
  21. Lots of good tips and info here, thanks. Also good call on the "grilling" tag GormanHarvey. Keep 'em coming.
  22. The bloody marys and the breakfast on the skillet are two fantastic ideas. Seriously. Two new things I could introduce to the group that would make what already is a well-planned and well-supplied event even better. And I intend to bring any folding tables I have, even if told we don't necessarily need them. And yes I hope people stop assuming this group isn't there for the game. On the facebook page for this event I just read a post from someone who is considering buying the MLB radio package so they won't miss a single spring training game. Besides isn't there a relatively new Opening Day rule requiring a ticket for every vehicle passenger when entering the lots? Bottom line: We're gonna get there as early as possible, start eating and playing games immediately, have a few drinks, eat more great food, take in a Brewers win, eat, drink, and play some more and then have our non-drinking friends in the group drive us all home. I just want to help make a great event even better.
  23. Thanks for the recipe pitchleague. That sounds like something that would not only be tasty but relatively portable. And I guess I didn't do a very good job emphasizing that I'm not looking for drinking suggestions. We'll do our share of drinking but rest assured we will be inside the park in time to watch and enjoy the game. This is a fun group, not one that gets into fights or causes trouble. For example, this is a group that talks more about getting a chance to see Marcum pitch on Opening Day rather than who can drink the most beer. I'd be thrilled to come away from this thread with a bunch of good tailgate food ideas, tailgate games, handy tailgate tools, and such. I'm not looking to learn a new way to quickly consume alcohol.
