  1. Not surprising that most of those drafts were in the 1990s. Really 1994-1997 were a lot of nothing leading to the futility of the late 90s and early 00s. 1998 was the year they went for high upside and while Gold and Neugie didn’t pan out it demonstrated a shift. Bill Hall turned out to be a key piece. 1999 got us Sheets. And 2000 we whiffed on Krynzel but got Corey Hart another huge piece. Then the picks were a lot better in the 200s until we had a drought in the 2010-2014 drafts again. But even those drafts were not as bad as the 1990-1997 years.
  2. Bonus stars for the Logan’s Run reference. Interesting, odd and obscure sci fi movie. It’s definitely a 1960s style sci fi with social commentary. Worth a watch. Great outing by him and Josh Knoth regardless of his height. I always thought he looked more of a 6’0” even than taller but regardless if he keeps pitching well that’s all we can ask for.
  3. AZ BrewCrew doing things in the first. 2-0. Bitonti in the heart of it with a 2B… although let’s see if it was him, maybe another imposter
  4. Logan Henderson had the hiccup in 3. Otherwise nada. 5.2 IP, 10K!! 2BB and 3H (2H and a BB in inning #3). Left a runner on 2nd. Russell Smith gets the last out to strand ‘em. Still 5-2. Henderson with a very nice start to his AA career so far.
  5. Your brewers affiliates are brought to by the numbers 5-2 Mudcats up 5-2 in the 8th Through 5 innings, Biloxi and Nashville both up 5-2 as well
  6. Mudcats get 2 back via Pratt 2B, errors, and then a single. 2-2 ugh 3rd innings for Ashby and Henderson. Both cruising (or so) for 2. Henderson rebounds to end the inning after a 2B then HR then walk. Ashby allows triple, wild pitch, out then 4 pitch walk, SB and PB. And finally ends it after allowing 2 runs himself. 4 BB, 4 H in 3 IP. Pitch count 66!! Oh boy. We will see what he can do the rest of the game.
  7. I though Bitonti had a HR last night, but the final box score has him 2-5 with a K, and the HR was Ordonez? Obviously no video feed to confirm, so Gameday was incorrect and the Box score is correct is what I would have to presume?
  8. Not watching right now. But Mitchell was lifted for pinch hitter. Hoping purely precautionary since he got a hit in the 3rd. Was stranded. Played the field twice. And it’s a 8-0 blowout against the Sounds as Taylor Clarke is struggling. KC Hunt doing well though 4. Bats quiet. It’s been a rough month for Barrios (after his fast start) and Lara (really since his injury). E. Cortez with a nice start for that young man. Bullpen giving it away as Lynchburg now leads 5-4 after a 3-1 lead for Cortez. Shuckers appear to be in a rain delay. Up 1-0 bottom of 3. Wichrowski thru 3IP with 2H, 3BB, 2K 0R.
  9. Apparently Yeager made ‘em sweat. Singles, out, out ,single, the 3 run HR. 5-4 holds for the victory.
  10. Offense has seemed to spark since ORae call up.
  11. Has this year been cursed? I mean how many starting pitchers are going down - the big league level has been decimated; but still multiple injuries in the affiliated ball levels, including non-pitchers, but Robinson, Birchard, Shears, Waggoner among the MiLB arms. No this? Our season was cursed day one with Quero's injury on AAA opening day. Ugh.
  12. Re: SHane Smith -Was just going to post the same thing. I will watch the game later, but he got through the order 2 times with reasonable pitch count. I am sure it was a stretching the pitch count up and not letting him go through the order 3rd time to protect him and given confidence as he transitions to starting as a Pro. Great outing. Also nice Pro debut for recent signee Tyler Bryant. Retired 4of 5 hitters, with 1 walk, no hits and 2 K. That's your first taste of affiliate ball young man.
  13. I will play devils advocate here. He knows the strike zone well. A ball pitchers are not great at pounding zone, and waiting for the mistake is a good thing for a 20 year old. Now if he doesn't change as he moves up that's a problem, but if he keeps his ability to know the zone and swing more as the pitchers are better in AA/AAA, then he can continue his success at the plate. He has the power to punish pitches in the zone. So we will see.
  14. Some good performances tonight. But I have to ask - is Ashby’s career at a crossroads? I mean I could see him traded or DFA’d in the offseason or next year. His contract and pedigree are going to give a long leash. But sheesh. Herrera and Knott with very nice outings. Henderson solid so far. And Di Túri, G. Barrios and D. Miller with nice evenings at the dish
  15. He looked pretty good. He breezed through the first 2 innings with only 24 pitches. Ran into some trouble in the 3rd (two base runners) and 4th (double). A few batters had long at bats with lots of fouls and this led to 20+ pitches in each of those innings. But he looked relatively composed. Not too wild (about 3-4 pitches looked way off). Works pretty quickly and average effort (not super easy arm action, but far from max effort). His fastball is 91-92, but he touched 93-94 on a few efforts. Although the radar gun only registers about 2/3 of the time in Columbia's broadcast. He has an off-speed pitch that was called a curveball at 78-79 mph. Another pitch that I cannot recognize (but I suck at recognizing pitches) that's 83-86mph that her threw occasionally. So it seems most fastball and curveball mostly. Again he is just 18, Manuel Rodriguez is 18 (soon will be 19) along with Knoth. Letson is 19, and D. Corniel also 19. Those are most of your starters for low A Carolina. Along with the "old guys" Timmerman and Galindez both just 21 which is close to average age for low A pitchers. That is a young club and a very young staff.
  16. Wow. I thought the team was near the cap. Is it near that cap if we include the 60-day/full-season IL? Just curious as if they had a lot room, wondering why more FA or Indy signings didn't happen last month when a lot of injuries really tapped the depth of like Nashville/Biloxi.
  17. And Bowman gives up a run. HR to first batter. Shuckers lead only a run, 8-7.
  18. Awesome. Boeve hadn’t hit a HR from 5/4 - 6/14. Now two in a calendar week. Please let this be a trend. Would love to get him hitting again.
  19. Ugh. Pitchers not doing as well as we’d hope in Hunt and Wichrowski. And it looks like a low hit night for the affiliates tonight: 1H in only 1 inning for Nashville; but 2 H in 3 for Billxi; 1 hit going into 5 for TRats; and Carolina 2 hits (at least 2 runs) in top 5. C’mon guys let’s get the offense going….
  20. I agree. From the interviews and the write up on him, sounds like an intriguing arm with a lot of injury history. So ease him in with relief appearances. I am guessing they will see how his stuff translates and his arm holds up and if he does well we have a starter, if not we have another possible ace reliever (along with Yoho etc)
  21. Melvin Hernandez, 17 yo RHP might have struggled in the complex last night (relative to him), but he has been relatively consistent given the league he is pitching in. All but 2 of his appearances he has gone 4 IP or more. Don't know how many pitchers on the Brewers ACL squad can go that many innings without absolute blow out innings, or pitch counts too high due to walks, etc. And he is a couple of weeks shy of turning 18, so same age as most HS pitchers for this draft, or next years draft.
  22. And he was a major head scratcher at the ‘22 draft right? Our 3rd rounder out of HS (who MLB TV had no info on - no scouting report iirc) is now teammates of our 1st rounder who was a college bat. Now EBJ has been set back with injuries, but O’Rae has been a great story. Kudos to the scouts. A. If step yet for to succeed in AA and even bigger to make the pros. But now which ‘22 pick seems first to hit the majors?? (Woessner may be first; Miz looked like a lock but a real set back year development wise; EBJ or ORae; long shots with talent include Adams, Wood; or Robert Moore who went to the Phillies)
  23. Can we add to that list Manuel Rodriguez. 18 year old starter in low A. Sure the stats look nice, and he does when we he starts. But this organization never lets pitchers go deep…. Except this kid. Only 2 of his 11 starts are less than 5 IP. He has 4 Quality starts - yes a very imperfect stat but it does require pitching 6 innings. Again in an organization where pitch counts are seemingly carefully monitored, pitchers are oftentimes limited to only 2 trips through the batting order and 4-5 IP starts are normal, this kid is going 5-6 IP (59.w IP in 11 starts) on a regular basis with good strikeout numbers (I mean amazing if you factor in age), but incredible control with only 6 BB in almost 60 innings. He is young. He has years to go. But very promising. He could see high A next year as long as he had no injuries (please baseball gods, please no), as a 19 year old. That’s like a HS pitcher drafted this upcoming draft being in high A next year.
  24. Well crap. First off very bad news for him and hope for the best. And second off I read that and completely forgot it. Either way, ugh!
