  1. Very efficient 3 IP by Rodriguez. 3 hits allowed but 2 runners out in DP. No walks. 35 pitches only. He’s subbed out after those three innings of work as he eases back in after an injury layoff. But very promising outings. Anthony Flores is in as they still hold on to a 1-0 lead.
  2. Nashville offense going crazy in the 3rd. Topped off by Zamora’s 3-run HR. Now 8-1. Hope the long layoff this inning doesn’t affect Henderson who was in a groove after the first two hitters singled.
  3. While I was typing that Alfaro goes deep. 1-1 game. M. Rodriguez through 2 IP facing the minimum after a single and DP. I am staying away from the big league game - nerves can’t handle it. Hoping for the best from the guy who pitched for both of these affiliates this season and made his way back home after nearly 2 years off. Hope Woody does well and feels good after the game. im Back to MiLB game day watching only today.
  4. Seems possible or just a precaution? If he couldn’t play why put him in the lineup. Last minute pinch hit indicates something just came up while warming up to hit, or news came to Nashville to hold him out. Both games early. Memphis jumps on Henderson for 2 singles in the bottom of the first but he works around it with 3 fly outs to surrender only 1 run. Hopefully he can limit the hits today. Jacksonville was his kryptonite so far this year don’t want to see any Cardinals affiliated have success against one of our top pitching prospects.
  5. Ok. Expected there was a move - Patrick to AAA or move him to the bullpen (with a bullpen arm going down- although not sure who had options that needed to go down). The answer is for Chad to continue getting starter innings in AAA. I could still see him as a bullpen add if the team needed a 6th/7th inning right handed pitcher in August/September, or filling in Miz spot in the rotation if they needed to limit his innings.
  6. Absolutely amazing. Considering the season last year where runs and hits were at a premium. The Joe Ayrault effect maybe? pitching was good last year and seems even better this season. But the offense. You had three young 20 year old prospects who did struggle some to start the year, who have been so key in this turnaround (from last season and the beginning of this season). Matt Wood has been a great addition too. And despite losing Adams and Wilken to fluke injuries in consecutive weeks, the offense is still rolling. Look what happened to the Mudcats when two big bats departed (Dinges promotion, and Adamczewski injury), they haven’t been the same relentless team. Watch and marvel at the Shuckers this year, currently the best team in the system in talent from top to bottom, particularly if they can ever get all healthy- you have Wilken (who may not have any more meaningful at bats this regular season but we will see), Adams, Pratt, Lara, Wood, Murray, Boeve as guys who can suit up in the majors someday. Plus “Mayor” Zavier Warren, who could make it to the bigs as a super utility player. Pitching wise we have seen Crow and Childers already move up, and Hardin is having a great first full professional season, add Wichrowski, Kuehner, Cornielle along with bullpen pieces like Yeager, Manfredi and don’t sleep on minor league rule 5 Zack Peek. Not the high end talent of Carolina, but a very very solid roster.
  7. While i want to be cautious and not be over-optimistic in the pitching depth, I did look back a few years ago and looked at what the full season clubs had as pitchers. Reviewing 2021, all pitchers who were age appropriate or younger (I used less than or equal to these ages - 25 for AAA, 24 for AA, 23 for A+, and 22 for A) and had about 50 IP, and that list in 2021: AAA - Bettinger, Ashby, Jankins. Small was called up but would have been on this list. Not bad, but meh as Ashby and Small were top prospects, Bettinger and Jankins were hopeful inning fillers (even at the time) AA - none, although J. Bullock did get some innings. A+ - Jarvis, Olson, Reifert, Castaneda, H. Chirino, and a couple of others, with Jarvis, Olson and Castaneda deemed realistic SP prospects at the time. So this was a solid team. A - J. Geraldo, Vasalotti, M. Guerrero, J. Cruz and Brendan Murphy. Vasalotti caught a lot of attention as a very young pitcher who could stand out, and Murphy was a former high draft pick ('17 I think) who was trying to get healthy. But despite a lot of inning this group was uninspired but Vasalotti and Murphy were on prospect lists. Now we have much more (using about 35 IP as those should get > 50 IP by year end barring injury or promotions) AAA - Miz, Henderson and Rodriguez all as top 10-20 prospects (Miz/Logan as top pitching prospects for the team) AA - Kuehner, Cornielle, Hunt, Wichrowski, and Crow (who is now in AAA) A+ - Flores, Birchard, Hardin (now at AA), Aquino and most likely DeBerry will get 50 IP. A - Hernandez, T. Smith, B. Rivera, Meccage, Torres, B. Johnson and possibly Dubanewicz and Dorchies will see some significant time as teenagers along with Hernandez, Meccage and Torres. Quite a change in quantity of younger pitchers, most with good stats, and also more upside. So yes this is trending the right direction. Now few are looked at as top of the rotation talent (Miz or Henderson aside) and most are middle rotation or back end depth but can certainly improve their status with either another quality pitch, increased velocity (ie Hernandez, Hardin), or improve command (Meccage and the '24 HS pitchers). Will be interesting to see how we view the pitching depth in the system in a year or two. Health, continued development and some good luck will really make a difference between "nice" depth vs true foundational depth that can augment the franchise for the next 5 years.
  8. Watched some of Meyers last night and he looked sharp. The velocity was there, and he kept hitters off balance which was seen in the stat sheet. The key for him will be doing this a few starts in a row, then he can be Milwaukee bound again (or trade asset for a bigger trade?)
  9. First - @Jim Goulart rookie mistake it was Will’s debut, not his dad Matt 😂 But it’s Not like anyone else did that last night in the game day thread 😉 lol. I think a lot of us who followed Matt (and Jason) will keep making these mistakes. Will started out off probably over-throwing, this missing the zone. And walks the first two batters but he did settle down. We have seen a lot of innings go bad. But he got the third batter to ground out into a force. The camera angle was bad but it looked like a tailor made double play ball but I have no idea why it wasn’t. So a sac fly scores a run and then he gets a final out (milb tv cut to commercial break which interrupted the last batter’s plate appearance). But Will did well to dig in to close out the inning, and his stuff will definitely play at AAA with his velocity as long as he commands it, and could some day follow in the footsteps of dad, Matt, maybe even a longer career. Will was a ‘23 undrafted FA like KC Hunt. Nice signings outside of the draft that year.
  10. Elvis has left the building and the Sounds left with a 6-1 victory. A 6-3 day for the organization. Happy 4th of July
  11. And nice play at 3rd by Murray to get the first out. Yeager gives up a deep fly to left but it's an out. Then a grounder up the middle that Pratt gets to and sets and fires but can't get the runner, but very nice play for a SS. Next batter right to Vargas at 2nd who bobbles it and does get the throw off just in time, and game over. Biloxi wins. 5-3 day for the organization so far, and one more game to play in Memphis as Nashville leads still in the 9th.
  12. Yup. Will indeed is pitching or I'm having flashbacks to like 1998 lol
  13. Childers works around those lead off walks. And gets a grounder (force out only) and a fly out (sac Fly) and fly out to give up only 1 run. Nice rebound. It's 6-1 Sounds
  14. And Bo Bowman with the tight rope act. Double to start the inning, sounds like a soft fly single and runners on the corners with no out. But he goes K, K and grounder to get out of the inning. Only 3 more outs to get in Biloxi to earn that win.
  15. Matt Childers debut in Memphis, but not the best of starts - 9 pitches and only 2 strikes and walks the first batter, and now walks the 2nd batter. 10 pitches still only 2 strikes. C'mon Matt you got this.
  16. OK. Next time. Burke gets a 1 out walk, but T Rats do nothing more, and a grounder to the left of the 2b and he gets it and still gets Hedbert out at first. 10-3. The 6 run rally (which I totally miscalculated on since that is still not enough 😬) didn't happen nor did an 8 run rally for the win. It was a no run ninth. Dang.. TRats had a lot of chances early but didn't cash in and DeBerry had one mistake and the bullpen had one bad inning.
  17. And Yoho came in for the 7th, so Myers had a very very nice night. Sounds up 4-0. Shuckers still up big 10-4
  18. OK, so the plan is to make the deficit bigger so that the comeback is epic and full of fireworks, right??? T Rats down 10-3 (it was 5-3 after 8 innings). But this is where the 6 run 9th makes it so worth it right?
  19. Oh boy it's getting tense in Fayetteville, NC. Hodges comes in and walks the first batter. Then walks the next on 4 pitches, including giving up a fielder's indifference runnder advance and a mound visit. But he gets the next guy to ground out and end the game. But Yerlin is making his own fireworks now. 3 walks and 2 HBP. And 20 balls to 2 strikes. OH boy
  20. 4 batters, 1 HBP and 3 walks, in fact 14 pitches and one show me strike. Yerlin Yerlin Yerlin.
  21. OH boy it's Yerlin time in Appleton. And it's that Yerlin. 8 pitches and all balls (including one that hit a batter) 😒
  22. Dubanewicz gets 2 outs in the 9th. And he is at 82 pitches which must be his limit as he is removed with 2 outs in the 9th and no one on. But also 3rd time through the line up (gets the first guy he faced to pop out to center), and his body language told you he didn't want to come out, after the out slaps his glove on his leg. Alright Jayden, love the emotion, and very nice performance, something solid to build on. Now for Hodges to get the last out here let's go Muddies!
  23. Tobias Myers is having a good night I think. Let's see 6 IP so far, and only at 84 pitches , and 8K with 0 BB and only 2 hits. And hitting 95-96 mph in the 6th inning. May have room for the 7th, or just let it ride and let him build off that?
  24. And Dubanewicz gets Holy to fly out. And it's 72 pitches for 4 solid innings of relief. Gives up 3 walks but only 2 hits, and gets 5 K. Wonder if he will go out for the 9th. Mudcats up 5-2 now. Unfortunately P Aquino can't keep it tied and has given up now 2 runs for T Rats, who are down 5-3 with still only 1 down in the 8th, and runners on.
  25. Dubanewicz strikes out the first batter, and walks the next batter. And he gets the next batter, but guess what? Another stolen base. Yikes.
