Is Matthew Wood putting himself into prospect status? He just hit it hard to right and almost over the wall, but off the RF glove and it's an RBI double, now 9-3. Wood in Biloxi with an .855 OPS, and 7 K to 9 BB and solid defense. in Appleton, E. Garcia just smoked it to deep left center and it's 3-3. And Burke just to the warning track in left, and it's out #3, but it's a tie game now. DeBerry went 6 solid innings, pretty dominant other than the 3 run HR.

Ethan Murray hits it off the top of the wall, and 2 run double makes it 8-3 Shuckers. Nearly had a homer there. Shuckers are just finding ways to score runs despite the biggest bats out (Adams/Wilken)

Tate Kuehner has been on a roll lately. And was cruising until giving up 2 runs in the 4th inning and gives up the tying run. His offense gets him three back. And how does he reward them? With a 3 up and 3 down 5th inning striking out the side, thank you very much

Jaron DeBerry can get strikeouts, but is also giving up runs. Tonight a 3 run HR, otherwise a respectable 6K and 1BB in 5 IP and only 77 pitches. But gives up 4 hits, 3 singles and 1 big HR. T-Rats were up 2-0 now down 3-2 in Appleton in the bottom of the 5th inning.

This year is a lot like 2022 - not great, and and the offense is low, and not a lot of production from the "names" (J. Barrios and J. Severino), but you can find a Luis Lara and get a serviceable player in Anthony Flores, and trade chips in Barrios and Severino. Not all classes will have generational talents. But if one of the players can turn into Barrios/Severino/Lara/Flores/Galindez, that is still a good year. Also the basic stats don't always tell the story, listening the MicroBrew podcast with JR and Curt, and Curt was saying that predicting success from DSL stats is not easy to do, and we don't have EVs or swing decision data, and that is what scouts seem to rely on more from hitters rather than batting average or OPS.

So that leaves Tyler Renz (ACL) and Joey Broughton (IL) as the only '24 drafted pitchers in the organization (so signed and not traded) yet to make it full season ball. And the '23 group has fared pretty well too as most (same criteria) are at high A or higher (except Bjorn Johnson and Josh Timmerman in low A and Josh Knoth on full season IL)

Well happy almost birthday @Joseph Zarr and Steven Duran. And you guys are about the same age, right? 😉 Let's hope for some fireworks in the affiliates today ... and I mean of the good variety please 🙄

With Crow and Hardin pitching well recently, and moving up the chain they seem like current front runners for minor league pitchers of the year (like Hunt and Yoho had a lot of buzz this time last year). Which begs the question of is this a good thing? I mean yes it is, but there is not a lot of great success from the recent Pitcher of Year (or co-pitchers) in the past few seasons. In 2015 - 2017 there were three pitchers who had good success (even if Lopez was delayed and not with the Brew Crew 2015: Jorge Lopez 2016: Brandon Woodruff 2017: Corbin Burnes Then in 2018 it was Zac Brown, who did not have an MLB career at all 2019 was Andy Ashby with mixed results in his mostly injured riddled career. And 2020 none was awarded But from 2021 on it has been given to pitchers whose subsequent seasons have not fared as well as hoped: 2021: Ethan Small - struggled in 2022 and eventually traded out of the organization. A bit more success than Zac Brown, but nowhere near what we would expect from a 1st rounder and Pitcher of the Year. 2022: Carlos Rodriguez - did well and was an award winner the next year. 2023: Carlos Rodriguez & Robert Gasser (co-pitchers of the year) - Carlos' MLB debut was less than encouraging (probably too early but injuries made him a call up) and Gasser got hurt last year after a very promising start. 2024: Craig Yoho & KC Hunt (co-pitchers of the year) - Yoho made his MLB debut but has had limited action and is trying to find his command and try to become the elite reliever he looked like last year, and Hunt has not been able to replicate his rise last year, and is still struggling with consistency in AA where he excelled late last year. Maybe 2024 and on will start a trend like 2015 - 2017. But feels like a mini-"Madden" curse for the pitchers. (FWIW - the hitters have mixed results with the obvious of Chourio winning in '22 along, and '23 with Black who has struggled, and '21 was Wiemer with a good season in '23, but the '24 awardees are holding their own this year, and will not name them because I'll blamed myself for jinxing them if I say anything )

Fine outing by the Carolina 9. No one stat line jumps off the page, but with 6 H and 9 BB divided up everyone got on base, a couple twice and two more (Ordonez and Lameda) both on three times with 1 H and 2BB each. Travis Smith may have had the best start by stats this season with 6 full innings and 1 R (unearned) and 5 K to 3 BB and 4 hits. Boy it would be so nice if he were to start to come into his own the second half and help out the Mudcats and get his prospect status back on track again.

Crow's line looks amazing. Relief outings from Liranzo and Hudson not so much. Tough year from Hudson. The Brewers always seem to get a great year (or sometimes more) out of a pitcher, but only the very good ones continue this success. They got an All Star half season from Hudson. Maybe better days are ahead later this summer or in 2026.

This is a very disappointing few weeks. Feels like very prospect keep getting injured. ugh.

Yup, agree. Not to mention if we took one of those other players, we may not have signed Dubanewicz, Renz, Broughton for example (not all three maybe one or two), but that savings at the top spot and still get a top 3 round talent, while adding 5th-10th round talent is very important to build quality depth. Having so many younger pitchers is good since we don't HAVE to rely on a Knoth or Meccage developing (while I still want them to obviously) but having Letson, Hardin (yes college arm I know), Dubanewicz among Renz, Robinson and who knows what with Broughton, allows flexibility. One or two of that group develop and viola we have a successful draft, but don't identify, draft and sign some of those arms, and we have to rely on the top names to succeed. But Payne could be the next EBJ draft pick, or another Turang/Frelick (or even better) as a former Brewer 1st rounder who may have a nice career in the Bigs.

Mercedes is out. 6 innings of 1-hit shutout baseball. Great outing for yet another ACL starter - seems like a lot more 4-6 inning starts for SP this year or at least it feels that way. D. Mora in now. Gets an out then a HBP.

Didn’t necessarily see that coming but it makes sense given the depth rising up and his challenges, this gives him a chance to sign with another organization or join independent ball now and try to get looks for another team. Crazy that in April ‘24 he looked like another fast rising pitching prospect. Man sometimes this is so hard to predict. Baseball….

Yes while separate rules, there is a lot of overlap with 40 man roster being the biggest way to protect a player from leaving. While many know this ( and I hope I'm describing it correctly) the Rule 5 designation will only impact whether or not the player could be eligible for the Rule 5 draft and that player stays with the team if not drafted (or protected), but minor league FAs need to re-up with the team or find a new team unless they are added to the 40 man roster. I think I have that correct (I hope) So using Areinamo and Corneille as examples, the rules will impacted each, but different ways: 1. Areinamo,if he is eligible and not protected, could go to a rebuilding team (think Rockies/WhiteSox/Marlins) as a Rule 5 pick up, but will be a Brewer if not selected. Protection would be primarily 40 man add. 2. Cornielle could sign and join any organization as a FA in the offseason. But could still be a Brewer if either added to the 40 man, or he chooses to just renew his minor league contract with the club (ie EMJ last year).

Tobias runs into some difficulties- a double, then a sac bunt and then an error and a run scores. A SB and another error and that runner scores. Next inning a HR. Brewers down 4–0 and offense had two early hits but nothing since. Royals have the lead off runner on in the 7ty and next gets on with a bunt single. Tobias needs to get out of the jam. That’s part of the development process.
