  1. Suckers down to their last at bats here. Wilken grounds out. Then Darrien Miller walks. Only 1 hit all night long. That is crazy. But the Biscuits have only 2 hits.
  2. Oh boy. I wasn't watching but clicked onto Gameday, and looks like the T-Rats lost. K, then a double, another K, a wild pitch and a walk. Then 3 run HR off of Yerlin. 4-2 Kernels over T-Rats Ugh. That stinks.
  3. I don't know that I actually knew that. Thank you. That explains the universal uptick. However, the percentage of pitchers throwing 95-96+ is still pretty high in MLB, and more than the percentage throwing 92-94+ was back in the day.
  4. I was going to mention Pratt, but he had a rough first 7 games, and a really good last 8 games. Still early, but encouraging that he is showing signs of life in that black hole of a league. Lara had a very good last few games too - he can be streaky so we will need to watch to see if this is him adjusting or just a mini-streak. Outside of those two, and a couple really good games by Ethan Murray, the offense is pretty sluggish, but either Birmingham was good for them, or the demotion of Garret Spain has been the catalyst as the offensive has a pulse now - weak, thready, but it is there.
  5. Ok this is even funnier to me. When I read @Joseph Zarr’s comment, and I was wondering why of all the first names to use he randomly chooses “Greg”, and I see your reply and it finally clicks (my first name is Greg as well). Well I assume @gregmag’s first name is Greg 😳 Apparently my situational awareness is still a 20-grade. But I’m working on my emoji skills and have them up to like a 50-grade now 😂
  6. I agree. It was three airmailed balls today- if you count the attempted throw in the 1st or 2nd when the batter struck four out #3, but he still threw to 2nd on the runner, didn’t matter or count and I gave him plenty of slack since he caught the pitch (foul tip maybe), so a lot going on. But his other two throws - looks like nice velocity, just airmailed. His framing has been good, glove still need work. But I like how he sets - his blue glove is a nice big target. And he moves well, he could handle other positions I think if his bat moves quicker than his catching skills. But I would love for him to develop into a offensively gifted and defensively sound catching prospect. I still have high hopes for him.
  7. And that’s a wrap- Childers get two fly outs. And then a grounder to Pratt, who fields it cleanly and throws to first and ballgame. Nice come from behind win for Shuckers. Solid games from Lara and Pratt (except for the error early on). Amazing work from the bullpen after the hiccup with a single and then an error that plated a couple of runs. After that zeros!
  8. A wild pitch, or passed ball and it’s 5-3 Shuckers now. Pratt walks And usual first baseman Goosenburg in to pitch. Hits Wilken, but then Miller taps it just in front of the plate and thrown out at first. GameDay says a swinging strike, but it was a 2-3 putout I think. Childers will come in to try to close it out here. Let’s go Matt…. I mean let’s go Will, Matt’s son
  9. Spain triples. 4-3 Shuckers lead. Daz Cameron joins Nashville as a spark, bumps Spain to AA, and he has been good for the offense. Lara up and the Pratt. Hopefully we can add to this lead. And Lara Ks swinging. Last chance to extend the inning is Cooper.
  10. Fitz magic. Gets a big K swinging there. On to 11th. Extra extras. Murray will be the “courtesy” runner on 2nd , and it’s Restituyo, then top of the order. This is the best chance to make it happen. Still not sure why EBJ tried to get to 3rd last inning. 2nd or 3rd base with two out either you need a hit to score you. OK shuckers bats let’s keep rolling. And restituyo bunt pops up and is out. Ugh. Poor fundamentals when it counts the most.
  11. Sac bunt. Infield in and a grounder to Pratt, and Cooper looks the runner back and throws to first. 2 out. That’s huge. Now Fitzpatrick can focus on just the batter. Hopefully he can get the out here.
  12. Yeager strikes out the batter and it’s on to extras. Yesterday we heard this nugget from the Birmingham announcer - he mentioned and I posted: ”Crazy stat of the 108 outs the Barons have made so far in the series, 56 were strike outs.” Since then another 48 outs recorded and another 16 Ks. So that’s 72 Ks this series by Shuckers pitchers of the total of 156 outs, just under 50%. Crazy. Oh crap. After Warren flies out, Murray flies out and EBJ tries to go to 3rd base (why???) and he is thrown out. On to bottom of 10. And I doubt Yeager pitches a third inning….
  13. Shuckers bullpen was 0.41 this series according to the announcer, so the bullpen has done its job. Offense has 9 hits and 8 walk today. wow Spain with a nice running catch in right. 2 down. Garret Spain has really helped get this team going the past week or so.
  14. Ok. Tie game on to bottom of 9. EBJ grounds to 2B and it’s 4 unassisted for the out. Hopefully the Shuckers get another chance to hit. Offense showing a pulse the past few days.
  15. Miller draws a walk. And it’s a tie game. Lara the only hit this inning. Otherwise 3 walks. EBJ up now
  16. Biloxi has had their chances this weekend. 3-2 on Miller. Last chance here
  17. Just turned it back on (we had weather warnings here in mid Missouri) And Pratt doubles again. Runners at 2nd and 3rd. ugh. Wilken lines it right the 3rd baseman and a double play. Ugh. Brock is really struggling even when he hits it hard it’s an out. His prospect status is getting sucked into the Southern League black hole vortex sadly.
  18. I mean to be honest this describes me perfectly -- although I am working all season long to get that up to at least a 40-grade.
  19. Muddies win again! Miles Langhorne comes on and gives up a walk, then a high fly ball to RF, then every pitcher's friend, as 6-4-3 DP. The Mudcats pitching crew can join with Walling and Bitonti to create a basketball team (Holobetz 6'3", Johnson listed at 6'3" but looks taller, Vire 6'6" and Langhorne 6'4"). Anyway, that is a 13-2 record for a talented, young, and yes relentless team. Great pitching today, timely hitting, and overall good defense. EDIT: I will be back later today to watch the Shuckers and some guy named Alexander Cornielle , I heard he is a pitcher or something 😉
  20. Phew. Apparent Brewers minor league club killer Tim Elko strikes out with two men on and it is still a 13-9 lead for Nashville in Charlotte. Feeling that Sounds will need a few more runs to close this one out - did someone say more home runs?? 🤣
  21. Holy Heck - in Charlotte there have been 19 runs scored through 6 innings, and 12 HR between the two clubs, Nashville clinging to 13-6 lead, I mean at this rate is a 7 run lead safe??? Bases loaded with 2 outs and Deivi Garcia trying to keep it a 13-6 lead right now. Welp he throws a WP and the a single and it's a 13-8 game lead. Now really clinging to a 5 run lead which doesn't seem safe in Charlotte. Oh boy this is getting too interesting. Meanwhile in elsewhere in Carolina, Luiyin Alastre hits a gapper and legs out a triple. Shallow fly by Tyler Rodriguez brings up Braylon Payne who will try to atone for his 0-4, 4K day. And he does. a single to left. That has to feel good. 4K in the first 4 at bats, but gets a 2 strike RBI single to left in his final at bat. And did someone say "Relentless"? Luis Pena rockets a HR to left field. 383 ft, 102 EV. First HR this season.
  22. Hello, welcome Caden Vire. Tall, and throws hard, but not a ton of command. He walks two and hit a batter, and in 21 pitches this inning he only had 10 strikes. BUT... With the bases loaded and no one out - he goes 3 pitch strike out, and then 4 pitch strike out with the last pitch at 96 mph!!! Mr. Vire is a "live wire", tall, with velocity, and long moving parts, but he looked good once he started to find the strike zone in his first action as a pro above the ACL. Mudcats looking to add to what is still a 5-0 lead in the 8th inning.
  23. Bjorn Johnson has pitched 1.1 IP so far, not sure if he pitches the 8th or if they go to the bullpen or not. But this young man must be a pleasant surprise. Last year in the ACL he had 8 outings and only 1 was scoreless, and he had a 16K:18BB and allowed 26 H in 19.1 IP. This year all 4 appearances (so far) have been scoreless, and he has 14K to 3 BB in those 9 IP (and counting so far). I did not see this coming, but he worked on things in the off-season and it cleared is working so far this young season. It sounds like Caden Vire (who was just activated earlier this week) is getting ready, he may make his season debut, missing all of 2023 and only 10.1 innings in the ACL last year. And he is fact coming in, and Johnson's day is done so those stats above hold up through today. Very nice job Mr. Johnson And welcome to the Carolina league Caden Vire! Excited to see what you can do.
  24. You are not going to see this often given his talent level. But Braylon Payne now 0-4 with 4Ks. Pena and Bitonti then get singles, well Luis Pena does his things as the single is a slow dribbler with a wide throw so he is on second base and Bitonti gets the grounder up the middle that just gets through the infield. 5-0 Mudcats. HR search is still on for Bitonti, as I would not have guessed he would have 0 HR through April 20th if asked at the start of the season. On to inning #7.
  25. Josh Adamczewski with a gapper to score two. And it's 4-0 Mudcats. They chase Yates, and then a GIDP ends the inning. John Holobetz pitching now into the 6 th inning. He is only at 57 pitches to get thru 5 innings. In the top of the 6th, he runs into a little trouble, full count and gives up a single. But on his 70th pitch gets a huge K. Dinges throws another ball into the outfield on a steal attempt. Boy he is struggling there today. Then another longer at bat and an infield hit as Di Turi makes a nice play and the throw is just down or wide and Bitonti can't come up with it and the runner is safe. Now Holobetz is out, but his line: 5.2 IP, 8K, only 1 BB, and 3H. No runs so far. And 78 pitches of which 56 were strikes! Giving way to Bjorn Johnson now who comes in and does Bjorn Johnson things - strands the runners with a long fly out. OK 4-0 through 6 1/2 innings, let's see if the Mudcats can keep the offense rolling.
