  1. I agree This is similar to the promote Mis last year after a good outing. Wilken has to show consistency at the plate before he can move up. We are giving him a mulligan for last year (facial fracture, caged batting helmet, being a dad if I remember correctly), but this year has to show that he can do more than have a hot streak followed by times of low production. But there are plenty of opportunities for promotions in Biloxi (outfield, pitching side) and Wisconsin (IF, OF, bullpen) to have some players move up as they deserve (looking at you Jadher Areinamo).
  2. I can’t remember- how common is it in the ACL to have pitchers go 4-5 IP? I seemed to remember a lot of 2-3 inning stints but that may have been due to poor pitching (at least results wise) last year. Dubanewicz going 4 innings in 66 pitches is good for a debut I think. And Anderson can find himself joining Peña and Made later this summer I think
  3. Overvaluing them? Probably some as I am much more the minor league watcher / fan. Have been since the early 1990s (well not watching back then) But they are assets. Most do not make it which it is always wise to trade a prospect for a MLB anyday of the week. But highly rated prospects, particularly those who are young have a lot of volatility but still have a lot of worth, and it's how you use them. Anyway, I value the prospects a lot, maybe too much, but it is also how you use them (identify those who fit your team and you believe will succeed, and trade out of the areas of depth)
  4. That we can all agree on - as I am clearly not cut out to be a GM. But in seriousness, that trade was an example of losing asset (21 year old arm with good K rate in high A who was projectable) for a LHP that gave us no value. So in that sense it was an example of a traded asset (higher upside, young arm) for a player with no value to the club. Now that trade was only bad value in retrospect, and understand the idea of making a trade and that one made sense at the time, but aged poorly. I was not comparing the rationale, but that this trade (a lot of assets for a potential back of the rotation pitcher) could age that way. I see it still as a poor use of resources as Yophery/CBA pick/Wichrowski for example is not far off in value (albeit less but not too far) from what we got for one season of Burnes, and I would rather have had those assets used for a proven pitcher at this time point. Yes Myers (minor league FA, not a trade) and Patrick were low cost adds, and they panned out, but Taylor Clarkes, Garrett Stallings, Tyler Jay among others didn't pan out. And I think the best adds were winter 22 through early 2023. The pure Arnold trades have been lackluster at best outside of Megill. A sleeper one could be the Taylor/Houser for Crow, which I thought was a salary dump, but like what I see from Crow. See his trade history: https://brewerfanatic.com/forums/topic/44283-a-retrospective-part-2-of-3-matt-arnolds-first-40-trades-as-brewers-gm/#comment-1634696 https://brewerfanatic.com/forums/topic/44407-a-retrospective-part-3-of-3-matt-arnolds-first-40-trades-as-brewers-gm/#comment-1637208
  5. Yes, right, understood, and he may turn out to be OK, but he has been in the MLB for 3 seasons with 3 teams, and 123 IP, with uneven to poor results mostly. I can give him the benefit that he could be a high end arm, but his track history is stating otherwise at this time point. I mean we can get a good streak out of him, like an Eric Lauer for example, but for that much in assets is the issue that I have. Sure I have been unimpressed with him (but I was also in the ready to move on from Burnes in 2019 crowd so I am clearly not one to base this off of) but even if he becomes a decent back of the rotation starter, I still think the price to pay is way too high, and that is what I am stating. Not that "Priester sucks" but more of "that is a lot of assets" for an unproven arm, who has 3 season, 123 IP of very middling baseball so far. I would have hope that a similar package with maybe a little more value could have netted a more proven pitcher. I didn't like losing Yophery and the pick, and was hoping the PTBNL was just a guy, but a recent 5th round pick with some good upside was more than I was expecting.
  6. Maybe this is karma for the Yelich and Contreras deals.... I mean every team has to have a stinker that bites them. Right now the big "loser" of recent years was the Reece Olson for Daniel Norris deal. Now this is in the running for worst trade in terms of losing assets for negligible returns. Losing 3 big assets. OK. Maybe I need to go back to my safe place and just visit the minor league forum only. Sorry, ending rant now
  7. OK, Sveumrules, thanks for saving me here - yeah at least it wasn't Hardin, Letson ('23 pick I know)!
  8. I think any trade obtaining Quinn Priester where we gave up any value is a nightmare of a deal, he is just not a MLB caliber starting pitcher. Now we have given up a lot of value - a toolsy, higher upside young OF, a high draft pick (and the bonus money that comes along with it), and a former day #2 draft pick who has looked good in low A with a fastball up to 96. Ugh. After this offseason's review of Matt Arnold's trade history which has had little to no impact outside of his first few trades (and those I question since Stearns/etc were still "around" for the Contreras deal for example), the return for Burnes/Williams has been so underwhelming, and the cost for a borderline MLB pitcher (he has had ample opportunities to stay in the bigs or stay with a team) has me questioning the front office.
  9. Most of that Gwinnett team is former MlBers, I mean most of AAA is just that, but they seem to have a lot (Kimbrel, Covey, Chavez as well as Paredes in the bullpen). And several with Brewers ties (Covey, Cooper, Paredes, Rodriguez and wasn’t Davis Daniel another pick who didn’t sign with Brewers - yup in 2018)
  10. Sounds go down 1-2-3 in the ninth. 5-3 loss. Dang it. Tough inning for Hudson who gets the loss. Hopefully he at least figured something out in the process I hope TRats strand a couple but tie it up Shuckers concede a run but still lead 6-1
  11. Hit it off the pitcher into the gap between 3B and SS for two runs - yup that’s how Tayden Hall drew it up. ‘And it’s now tied with a standar single by Guilarte. Let’s go TRats.
  12. Sounds get a run back. But that’s it. ‘TRats trying to get a rally started here.
  13. Yerlin time for TRats. Two on, two out in the 4th. Trying to get him back on track after a disastrous game Tuesday night. Furst pitch not close. Gets a foul and a single, but the throw gets to third in time? That’s what was called. Looks like safe, but they escape the jam. But a run scores so down 3-0.
  14. Hudson looking for confidence in AAA. Gives up a single. Then two outs. unfortunately old friends (and former farmhands) Carlos Rodriguez and Garrett Cooper single around a Leonard double. And it’s 5-2 Stripers now. Dang it
  15. Adams was pinch hit for. Couldn’t go back on the feed to hear of there was a reason. He did have a HBp earlier but was in the field for a couple of innings I think. If anyone was watching the Shuckers game lol I’ve - any insight? EDiT - looks like sveumrules beat me to the punch …. Again
  16. Ok @sveumrules - now you and I are posting alike lol I think the same thing a couple times yesterday.
  17. And he gets through the 6th with just 7 pitches. Sounds tied it up in the top of 6. 2-2 game. Rodriguez looks to be cruising per the box score right now - 9 straight retired on just 27ish pitches (I may have lost count but between 25-30 to cover 3 innings after the lead off single in the 4th). TRats down 2-0 early. Stievn Cruz in for Wichrowski who went 3 scoreless (4 K, but 4 BB, only 1 H)
  18. Biloxi has scored 6 runs for the 12 th time this season. Last year, all season they did that 35 times (by my count). The offense is definitely a step up from last years team where a 2 run deficit seemed insurmountable.
  19. No doubter by Wilken. 2 run homer to left. 3–0 Shuckers. After a Adams HBP (what else lol)
  20. Brett Wichrowski is listed as the Bikoxi starter. Great to see his name - wow. Hope KC Hunt is ok, maybe he will piggyback for this start??
  21. The loss of talent over the past few years (Hader, Burnes, Williams and Adames) makes it so hard. So some of this is on the owner for lack of willingness to invest in at least one star (and I acknowledge the prior attempt with Yelich backfired; and the excellent decision on Chourio last year), but you need to invest in players. The other part is I do question the front office - I mean last year looked great and the Contreras deal was amazing (that was still when Stearns was in consultant role?). But since then Arnold has whiffed mostly. While Devin is having his own issues in NY, he was considered one of the best closers in baseball, and we got an injured arm (one of those highly paid pitchers who is out for a while; but also one with an arm injury history) and a prospect who does not look fully MLB ready. We kept 40 man roster spaces for Jay, Capra among others instead of a home grown prospect in S. Smith. I will not pretend I knew he would have success at the bigs already, but watching him come up the past 2 years healthy in the minors I was so excited for a Mis-Henderson-Smith-Rodriguez-Wichrowski homegrown AAA rotation that one could dream on for a few years to come in the bigs. Now he is exceeding those expectations. Plus some of the FA signings, where Stearns seemed to jig instead of the collective jag of MLB GMs, and it worked, that approach is less well refined the past 1-2 years, as there are fewer real diamonds in the rough (Megill was picked up in '23; can't recall one since). Lastly the team has little heart. Adames is not only talented but was the vocal leader when he arrived in '21. Braun was that role from '08 - '19. I don't see that person now. Chourio is young and immensely talented but I don't see him that vocal leader (maybe not yet, maybe to come), and Contreras and Yelich seem the quiet, lead-by-example types. Even the pitchers - Hader and Burnes and Woodruff had that energy. Peralta still does, but the rest not so much. Anyway, the prospect pool has the talent, and hoping for better things to come, but this year's team lacks that relentless-ness, that heart, and sadly the full complement of talent. Bummer. But let's go Brewers.
  22. I guess they called the game in Gwinnet, and it's a Nashville win. That's a great day for the minor league affiliates. 4-1, and the lone loss a 1-0 pitching duel They go 2-1 in one-run games today. And Hardin, Holobetz, Misiorowski have solid outings (Holobetz one bad inning with a 2 run HR). Signs of life.
  23. He has been very patient all year. Maybe too patient. Could be working on something, or just re-adjustment? Clearly knows the strike zone and gets the walks. Not punishing mistakes enough (or rarely except for the last day or two or three maybe) He was looking lost at the plate other than the walks most of the season except for a game or two, but now a few days where he has shown some signs of life. I have been pretty hard on him, and I'm not ready to say he's turning it around, but looked better the past few days than he has most of the season.
  24. And after a full count - close pitch on the 3rd ball call. But next pitch and a fly out SHUCKERS WIN again! 14-12, 2 games over .500. Wow just wow. Great comebacks tonight for Mudcats and Shuckers, and tough luck loss for TRats. Great pitching, timely hitting. Boy those would be some nice things to bring the big leagues right now 🙄
  25. And the rain in Gwinett is now heading to Columbus No additional runs after Spain lines out. Yeager on to try to get a game over before the rain causes it to be delayed. STrikes out the first batter, but then a base hit off the fists. Man a GIDP would be so nice here, but a K will work. Heck yeah! (and no GIDP since the runner got to 2nd on indifference) One more out to go. C'mon boys
