  1. Escobar & Lucroy play the two most important defensive positions and they've played them relatively well given their inexperience. What position(s) would you pencil Gamel in at?
  2. I'd still like to see those AAA stats show themselves at the big club level before I assume Gamel can be penciled in if others go. You're not big on the small Brewer sample and I'm not impressed by AAA stats. It's still a big leap to the big league club.
  3. Yes, small sample size and the numbers aren't terrible. And yes, he hasn't had enough of an extended period to make a case either way. That's my point. I'm not ready to assume he's part of the post Prince/Weeks line up just yet.
  4. More stats on Gamel's production thus far. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him in the mix. I just haven't seen it at the big league level. 6. Back before the rumored mid season trades of Hart or Fielder I mentioned that I'm not comfortable assuming we can just pencil Gamel into the Brewer line up. Several posters jumped down my throat about what a great player he was. I'm still waiting for him to prove it at this level. That sweet swing isn't connecting much.
  7. "Should the Brewers extend Weeks? " I'd say yes but only if the 8th day is tacked onto the weekend.
  8. Since Hart admitted dogging it last year and early this year an incentive laden contract is the way to go. Still, I'm betting somebody will make us an offer we can't refuse this year. His numbers are too good for a pennant contender to ignore even if it's a short term trend.
  9. A month ago I would have been thrilled to trade Hart for a #3ish pitcher but since the interview where Hart admitted his slacking my opinion has changed. He seems to finally be maturing and understanding that he has a gift which requires hard work to optimize. No more lollygagging on the bases and on defense. The new Corey Hart has arrived at last.
  10. I saw Cain play in Appleton and he was really dogging it in the outfield. Hopefully he was rehabbing an injury or something.
  11. Gamels hitting seems to be recovering nicely at AAA but he's still missing over 1 play out of 10 on defense. He has a long way to go as a 3B but if we trade Prince it could allow him to play 1B. We found a place for Braun and could likely do the same for Gamel. He seems willing to do the work. Frankly if we're going to trade high in anticipation of a fall off my bet would be that we should move Hart rather than McGehee.
  12. I don't think we're 3 or 4 years out but we're at least a year out and that's how long we will have Prince. Better to trade him while he still has value. I agree with trading Hart also because he's generally a liability on defense. I'm big on McGehee and haven't seen anything from Gamel to believe he can be a third baseman. Also we're assuming he can fix the hole in his swing. McGehee takes a great approach at the plate and he's about average on defense. I'll take that from the league RBI leader. He's been solid for a full year now with no signs of a decline.
  13. Gamel's got a hole and his swing and he's attrocious on defense. Move Hart but keep McGehee. McGehee has a terrific approach at the plate and has been proving he's capable for a full year now. Gamel's still just wishful thinking.
  14. I think McGehee's going to be solid for a long time so I'm not inclined to trade him but if I was I certainly wouldn't be comfortable penciling Gamel in at 3B. The last we heard from Gamel his defense was terrible and he had a hole in his swing that opposing pitchers were filling. I'm pulling for the kid but he hasn't given me a reason to believe.
  15. Hart really does seem to be changing his approach at the plate and he's running the bases harder but it appears he will always remain a lollygagger on defense. The importance of defense makes moving Corey the right thing to do. Let's get what we can, while we can.
  16. That is a good point. Our guys throw way too many pitches that nobody is going to swing at. Watching our guys swing at breaking balls low & outside makes me wonder why we can't return the favor. It's a shame that on the rare occasion our pitchers get ahead in the count they give it right back.
  17. Our best pitcher is tied for the league lead in BB's. Maybe Gallardo doesn't have enough life on his fastball to throw a pitch over the heart of the plate without getting tagged. Sheets was able to throw a 2-0 fastball down the pipes without much damage. Guys like Suppan and Davis (and now Hoffman) just can't do that without being lit up. In my opinion we can be somewhat more aggressive but only as much as our talent level allows us to be. One other thought I'd like to get feedback from the experts on. Whatever happened to having an occasional knuckleballer in the rotation to eat up innings? Guys like Candiotti used to be decent #5 starters who could throw all day if necessary.
  18. Good thought Crash. Hopefully they won't look too closely at his lollygagging defense. Now is the time.
  19. Melvin drafted Gallardo over Jack's objections. So yeah, not really as cut and dry as you think. As much as Jack Z gave us some terrific position players he left us a long period without big league ready pitching. We're paying the price now.
  20. The Crew's major issue has been their inability to draft & develop young pitching. I can't hang that on Macha. Melvin has done an OK job with position players but our pitching continues to regress since Sheet's started his annual injury ritual. We propped it up with Sabathia but overall we haven't grown our staff since Gallardo. Ultimately Melvin and those under him are responsible for the situation we're in.
  21. It starts off as random but it can get in their heads and affect play after the reporters ask the same questions 50 times.
  22. You're both spot on. McGehee is delivering everything we could ask. Take a look at the pix of him in the dugout after a bad AB and you can see how seriously he takes his job. That's the difference between him and guys like Hall & Hart. Also, I can't understand why fans are still talking about Gamel like he's the next Braun. Gamel has shown that he has a long way to go to be considered a MLB 3rd baseman plus he has holes in his swing that pitchers are still exploiting. Casey's one of the best values out there. Trade Prince since we won't be able to resign him anyway plus we're going nowhere this year and next with our pitching staff.
  23. I'm partial to the outfielder (I think in the minors) who ran through the wooden fence.
  24. I agree. Uecker could likely call his shots as to which team he broadcasts for. No complaints here.
  25. Well said bcf. I've listened to play by play across the country and haven't heard any better than Uecker. I think Provus does a great job also. My only complaint would be that the crew keep them on track when they miss something. It's a small item compared to their entertainment value overall.
