  1. I love it when they interview the lawyers to get a balanced impartial opinion.
  2. If you think the phrase "since 2006" would include 2006 then I'm wasting my time and I'll move on. Billy's the king of the stand up double. I'll say no more.
  3. Nate82, you seem to be ignoring facts so here are a few more you can ignore. I could almost buy your argument about triples if our sample size was small but our sample size is over 1,000 PA's since 2006. In that time Hall has 1 triple, the big man, Prince has 5 and the slow (and in your mind non-hustling) JJ Hardy has 6. Is there any sampling size you would find statistically significant? Bring facts to the table indeed.
  4. If Hall seemed to care about improving then I'd pull for him but he's been stubborn and lazy ever since he got the big contract. His hustle stats are terrible. If I have to watch him turn triples into doubles and doubles into singles for another year I'll start the Anti-Melvin fan club. Prince & JJ at least hustle and their extra base numbers show it. Even Carlos Lee would take the time to study opposing pitchers and grab an occasional stolen base. Billy is what he is and that isn't changing.
  5. Baes loaded, batter hits a line drive which hits the baserunner on 3rd who unwisely is standing in fair territory, karoms off him and hits the runner on 2nd and karoms off him to hit the runner on 1st. OK, it's unlikely but it's theoretically possible.
  6. topper, By golly you're right. Looks like I've been giving the wrong question all these years. I see he's won the HR title a couple times so I must be repeating it incorrectly. I'll go with HR title from now on. Thanks for the clarification.
  7. Great guesses topper but none of those uses both the first and last names completely. That's several more than I could have come up with though.
  8. Thanks for trying Joe. And the answer is "Tony Armas".
  9. Who is the only batting champ whose name is all body parts?
  10. Great topic. Frankly this discussion shows me that at least recently Brewer management has done a decent job of not getting burned. If I recall correctly the Bando handling of the Molitor negotiation was one of the last straws that finally sent him packing. More recently the premier players lost such as Lee, Cordero & CC have been all about small market realities in baseball. Branyan might be the one exception of a guy who could be starting for us right now but isn't. Even that's short lived though if Gamel progresses on defense and we retain Prince. Overall, I have to hand it to Melvin.
  11. If Counsell's change in stance is the reason for his increased production then there is reason to think his high level of production could continue. Of course that assumes his body can handle it for which I trust Brewer management to determine. It's similar to the Branyan situation. He made a change in his batting stance also and now seems to be much more consistant at the plate. I agree though that DeRosa would be the guy if we go outside the organization.
  12. "Maybe McGehee can do the job in a platoon but I don't think he's going to get unlimited time to get untracked." I don't think he's played enough to consider him off track. I agree with Gamel at 3B and Counsell/Hall at 2B. My only concern is that Hall struggled there in a handful of games last year and was quickly pulled. He's starting to revert to his old form on offense and I'm betting his old defense won't be far behind. If Counsell can continue playing the way he has then we've actually found more of a prototypical (see high OBP) lead off hitter than we had with Weeks. Losing Weeks is a shame but we're still pretty well positioned.
  13. Pulling out our jerseys beats beaning guys and watching them score. Thanks to the Cards for making something so silly a distraction.
  14. I had a late Uncle who was a professional seat jumper. Thankfully he lived in Kansas City so when he dragged me to the games we'd only anger Chief or Royal fans. I say it's OK if you wait until at least the 3rd inning. Also, if you have small kids forget it.
  15. I also give Macca credit for pushing the right buttons when choosing relief pitchers. In particular he seems to put Stetter & Coffey into the games at just the right time. Still if the pitchers are performing then the Manager looks like a genious. Also, if any of our starters get hurt we have potential starters like Defelice & Villanueva that could step in without leaving big gaps in the bullpen. Times are good right now. Hope they last awhile.
  16. I have no problem with Cardinal fans because it's a terrific baseball town. Their Manager and Announcers need therapy though.
  17. Seems like it would take a Kendall injury for the replacement to catch. The best offensive option would seem like the right way to go because it seems more likely they would get to pinch hit than to catch.
  18. If Villy is up I'm definitely not feeling better. Let's score 5 and let Julio pitch.
  19. I agree. Yo isn't a rental like CC was. Hoffman should be available. His two innings were quick.
  20. Our base stealing prowess has taken a nose dive this year. I thought Macca said we weren't going to be a base stealing team. Well, I guess he was right.
  21. Hey ELCABALLO45, I thought I was the only die hard Carlos Lee fan. I assume you are also missing our RBI machine?
  22. Yo appears to be the ace we need him to be. I wish some of his confidence would rub off on Parra. Gallardo really goes after hitters.
  23. Maybe decent was too strong a word but my point is that earlier in his career (2004 12SB & 6CS, 2005 18SB & 6CS) he showed signs that he might be becoming a credible base stealer/runner. However, every year since he's had one more CS than SB and both numbers are in the single digits. He's regressed as a baserunner and since I'm not aware of any injuries it's all on Billy.
  24. Relax, I'm not questioning your sources. My point was that I can't tell who really does have inside information and who doesn't so I typically ignore those who make such claims. If you have true inside sources then I appreciate the fact we have you on this board to bring that kind of insight forward.
