  1. Our farm system has had much better success developing position players than they have pitchers. If we're not contending after the All Star break it's time for Prince to go in return for some SP. Of course that's assuming we can't sign him which almost is a given.
  2. I love Uecker so I'm willing to forgive him occasionally forgetting that the game is on radio not TV. Does he have a microphone in his ear so his crew can help him correct or add info when he misses it? If he doesn't it seems like he should. For those of you that listened to Harry Caray his last few years Bob Uecker seems like Bob Costas.
  3. Nice to see a couple runners moved from 2nd to 3rd with ground balls hit to the right side. Maybe we haven't completely forgotten how to play small ball.
  4. Crew, Excellent summary of Bill Hall's career or lack thereof!
  5. Thanks for the link! I've always said we need more hummus at the ballpark. Question for the expert posters: Have they solved the issue with the roof bogies and whatever else was discouraging them from opening/closing the roof?
  6. I've had glasses, contact lenses and finally Lasik. I don't believe any of the 3 gave me improved eyesight compared to the others. Of course Lasik has advantages since you don't have to worry about fogged glasses or dust under your contacts. Hart's problems last year seemed to be more about effort. He got fat, slow and lazy. This year I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he appears to have taken the off season more seriously. Hopefully we'll have other good options to help him get the fire back in his belly.
  7. Here's something I do know. Hall was one of the best at turning a triple into a double or a double into a single. I never saw anyone dog it so badly getting down the line. Check out the trend on SB's also. Hangover or not, you've got to give it your best shot once you step on the field. I couldn't be happier to see him gone. I only wish he'd have stayed in the NL so I could watch him flail at breaking balls in the dirt vs Brewer pitching.
  8. Another story illustrating the rule of thumb which states don't marry a gal with a stripper name. Hey Teatoe, I admit I read all your posts as much for the Trenni photo as your sterling insight. Got any new pics? She had a makeover didn't she? Thanks.
  9. If we ride out the last two years of Prince's contract then playing a guy like Edmunds may be the right move. Of course that's assuming his production warrants him a "win now" designation. I certainly like him better than Hart but hopefully one of the younger guys like Gerut break out and make Edmunds expendable.
  10. Weeks is never going to be a Gold Glove fielder because he's so stiff but he is a great illustration of how much a player can improve if he continues to do the work. He's shown glimpses of being a terrific offensive player so hopefully he can stay healthy for a full season and show us what we have. As previous posters pointed out, if we're debating his ability to turn two then he must be doing a decent job on the routine plays.
  11. Another concern is his sudden lack of speed numbers which started last year. Compared to previous years he seemed to be half running to first. With his new contract he'll be even less motivated. If the right deal comes along I'd be inclined to move him while he still has value. We don't need another Bill Hall.
  12. The guy who invented UZR should watch Bill Hall play 3B.
  13. Are McGehee's knees going to allow him to have a major league career? He's one of my favorite Brewers but if he's already hobbling around the bases at age 26 I'm reluctant to pencil him into our long-term plan.
  14. I really like McGehee and think he's going to be a solid player. He hit for some power in Spring Training and I expect we'll start to see more long balls from him as he settles in. Supposedly 3B is his more natural position, but since he's been doing well enough at 2B I agree that 3B should be Gamel's until he proves he can't handle it. Counsell can be used for pinch hitting, spot starts and as a late inning defensive replacement.
  15. "Macha made it clear that Hall was running out of time to break out of his prolonged offensive skid." Websters dictionary defines the word "prolonged" as a period of approximately 2 1/2 to 3 years.
  16. If the voting is based on this season alone even Counsell deserves to go ahead of JJ. Of course he's a utility infielder so he's left without a defined position.
  17. Nottso, I couldn't agree more. Anything hit close to the warning track will yield the Billy Hall pose. He's been doing it for years so I don't know how anyone can disagree.
  18. It is quite impressive to see a small market excel so much at getting out the vote. As much as fan interaction is nice it sure doesn't yield an accurate outcome. Ramirez deserves the SS spot hands down but nobody in Florida cares about baseball.
  19. No doubt it was a huge win. Congrats Billy! I've figured it out. Let's play Hall in the late innings on holidays that begin with "M".
  20. On Wednesday Hall was 0 for 5, yesterday he was 0 for 3 and tonight he was 0 for 2. That's steady improvement. I think Macca should stick with him a bit longer.
  21. bobskube, I recognize you as one of the guys who also has had Hall's number for some time. Interesting to hear that Sveum was trying to fix him long ago. The Hall contract has got to make the top ten as Brewer's worst. Their hands have been tied for 3 years and we still have one more we'll likely have to eat at least a portion of.
  22. Hustle, game prep, studying pitchers pickoff moves, working on situational hitting, refining fielding techniques, it all goes to self motivation. Hall hasn't shown any which is why he will never improve. I've been saying the same things about Hall for 3 years ago and folks are still debating me. With Macca as our Manager I'm hoping this will all be a moot point in short order. With Hall's contract though the problem never goes away.
  23. I didn't state that JJ is a non-hustler. Quite the contrary I think he & Prince do hustle and Hall does not. I used triples as one way to measure hustle. I do agree that luck plays a part in triples but hustling out of the box will put you in a position to take advantage of a slight bobble, tough hop, etc whereby coasting out of the box and jogging into second will almost guarantee triples will almost never occur. Hustle will yield you a bit more distance in the same amount of time so to say hustle is irrelevent is not correct. I used triples as an example of my theory that Hall does not hustle. If you don't feel triples are a valid example then I welcome you to watch Hall's home run trot on almost any ball hit anywhere near the warning track. If you're posting here I'm assuming you're also watching the games. Hall's been phoning it in since he got the big contract. His Mom seems like a very nice lady though. At least he was lucky there.
  24. So I'm to believe that Hall is on a 2 1/2 year unlucky streak and that guys with comparable or less speed are 5 & 6 times luckier?
  25. Dang, I thought with this topic I'd get some new pics of Trenni.
