  1. How about this, Jake? 1.$24 mill 2.$22 mill with a player option 3.$20 mill 4.$18 mill 5.$16 mill with $5 mill team buyout Seems like a can't lose from both sides?
  2. In a year time, Burnes and Ortiz should be MLB ready.
  3. 1 year $30 million (30 per year) 2 year $54 million (27 per year) 3 year $72 million (24 per year) 4 year $88 million (22 per year) with a team buy out for $5 million Let Boras choose his contract. I think both sides would be happy. Jake would get more than Davish per year and the Brewers would get a safer shorter term contract. Personally, I like the 2 year deal.
  4. I do not think they would trade Puk at this time (way to much upside) and Cotton for Santana. I think that would be my starting point and when they say no, ask for Cotton and Jesus Luzardo (20 year old lefty with the same type of ceiling as Puk) and Kevin Merrill (22 year old SS who is a CC look-a-like).
  5. Who else would offer him? Twins? Who else?
  6. Three years with a team option on the fourth year...$63m w/ $15m on the option. Add in some incentives. I know it is Boras, so who knows.
  7. The key word in this paragraph....SMART really SMART
  8. If we let things be our starting rotation in 2020 will be... Nelson Anderson Davies Burnes Woodruff With all of them improving just a little, that will be an impressive rotation. 2021 looks like this if we cannot resign Nelson and Anderson (But then we would probably get draft picks back for them) Davies Burnes Woodruff Ortiz Medeiros/Supak/Peralta/Diplan/Derby I love that depth and it is the way to stay competitive with the big spenders.
  9. I agree with most of this. I would sign one of Cobb or Lynn for three years. The look at mid-season to trade Santana for a rent-a pitcher or maybe Archer. With Nelson coming back and a potential big arm added, we could be really strong for the second half without having to overspend. I am going to tell you right now the odds of that happening are <1%. In the offseason MLB players for MLB players are possible, but in season it is almost impossible to rationalize. You would be making a move that would hurt your roster while trying to help it in a postseason push. In the offseason there is time to find a free agent to replace the player you got rid of or find a trade. Good luck trading MLB assets for MLB assets in July as we already are having difficulty doing so. The trade Santana for some prospects (like you are a seller) and then trade other prospects for a rental pitcher (like you are a buyer). Sorry I was not clear enough for you.

  11. Anderson Davies XXXXXX Chancin Woodruff Cobb or Lynn would be fine with me at XXXXXX (three years would be the my wish). YoGo and Suter to fill in and long relief, with Nelson coming back mid-season. If everything is going hunky-dunky at mid-season, be a contender, and go get a rent-an-arm.
  12. I'm guessing the Brewers have a pretty good idea what it will take to sign any one of those players. Likewise, they probably have a darn good idea what it will take in terms of the trade targets. This is mostly politics at this point. Who is going to blink first? Besides, it was reported by someone, don't remember who, that the Brewers had already made an ultimatum offer and were flatly rejected. If they did in fact go groveling back with another offer then their power to do so again, with anyone, has to be almost nil. Then you agree we should move on with it?
  13. Last year Hiura was in college and Burnes was just some recently-drafted college pitcher in Low A ball. They'll have prospects that break out this year, just like Burnes did. This is not a top-heavy system like it was during most of the Melvin years. And if you want high-ceiling prospects, keep an eye on Lutz. You'll think he has "actual value" by the end of the summer. I don't look at Burnes "as just some recently-drafted college pitcher". He was a fourth round pick who had very good success in college and showed lots of promise since the day he was drafted. In every stop in the minors he has been more than impressive. He does have a chance to be special. I don't feel that way with very many minor leaguers an I bet Tampa Bay feels the way I do and that is why they want him. I do not think Archer is worth what Burnes (plus the others) would cost the Brewers.
  14. Pitchers report next Wednesday the 13th. I would do the musical chair thing starting then if the situation does not clear up in the mean time. Make a "Final and Best Offer", give them a day to answer and then move on. (Feel free to adjust order or amounts or years) Monday Darvish Day (5/110). Sign by 8:00PM or we pull the offer. No need to make this public. Move on to Arietta. Tuesday Arietta Day (4/88). Sign by 8:00PM or we pull the offer. No need to make this public. Move on to Cobb. Wednesday Cobb Day (4/52). Sign by 8:00PM or we pull the offer. No need to make this public. Move on to Lynn. Thursday Lynn Day (4/48). Sign by 8:00PM or we pull the offer. No need to make this public. Thursday Garcia Day (2/16). Sign at 8:00PM.
  15. To Cleveland for Clevenger+
  16. And if it does work out, the vast majority of the team is controlled for the next three to five years, which means lots of prospects aren't really needed. And that means three to five years of drafting prospects pretty much knowing when they will be needed to replace the players in the majors. That's assuming we actually want all of these guys under control for 3-5 years. It was only a year ago when Stearns tried to give Villar $22M to be our controlled 2B for example. Broxton was a budding Mike Cameron. By April 30th, Thames was a legitimate MVP candidate. Junior was our opening day starter. Times change rapidly in baseball and sports in general. It's not just the Brewers. Look at the Cubs who had a lineup that was the envy of the game in spring of 2017 that is now down to Rizzo and Bryant as the only guys they can truly count on . I think it's a very safe bet that Yelich will be a good to great player for the next 4-5 years. Ditto Arcia and Hader. Braun obviously won't be. Shaw and Thames are iffy to repeat 2017. The catchers are stop gaps. Cain won't be a star for the life of his deal. I'm assuming Hiura will take over by 2019 and will be one of our key players. I like Knebel a lot but his 2017 was almost impossible to top. That's why this is a short term plan. We will hope for the best in 18 and 19 and realize that 20 will be whatever the baseball Gods decide. This is the reason I like Odorizzi.
  17. I inserted the bold Maybe To me it is a BIG Maybe
  18. Some very good points. May I expound, with some other internal options that may be ready for the big top. 1.YoGo, If you asked me two years ago that we had YoGo as a possible number 5 I would say woohoo! Two meh years and maybe we get a bounceback in the place where he had lots of success. Chances it happens 30% 2. Junior Guerra, I know, I know, he is on the wrong side of 30, but....he was our number 1 at the start of last year before he had leg issues (not arm issues). Give the man a chance, maybe just maybe we recapture the magic sinker. CIH 20% 3. Adrian Hauser, Big strong and healthy. Go get em tiger. Maybe needs a little warm up at AAA. CIH 10% 4. Bubba Derby, Very strong year at AA and AAA. Very strong "Clancyphil" type prospect that just performs. Again, Go get em tiger. CIH 10% Add Woodruff, Ortiz, Burnes, Peralta etc and I feel much better. Chance more than one of these guys performs at MLB this year 50% Looking at the glass half full may be a fool's paradise, but it is also not that unrealistic.
  19. What if we just substitute Jake Odorizzi for Archer on a Santana deal? Two years at an affordable price, he may not be Archer, but he has far less risk and not far behind Archer in talent.
  20. To me that is a walk away, seeya later price. Would MUCH rather hang onto those guys, trade Santana to Cleveland for Salazar or Clevenger (or Santana + for Salazar and Kipnis) than give up that much. It's basically saying that Archer is so much better than Salazar, he's worth paying Phillips, Burnes and Peralta, on top of what it would take to get Salazar. To me, that is just way too much. I think Burnes alone could be as good as Archer as early as next year. Then it seems like Archer is a hard pass. No way DS, BP and CB, just no way. Agreed. But what about, say, Santana, Woodruff, Broxton, Ponce, and one of Hernan or Aguilar? Sold
  21. It seems a proposal like that may not be in the realm of possibility. Unfortunately, from what HighHeat19 is saying on the "What's Next" thread, the Rays are demanding a roughly equivalent or even more valuable package just for Archer: From what I know, a trade of Santana, Phillips, Burnes and Peralta is what TB want's for Archer. To me that is a walk away, seeya later price. Would MUCH rather hang onto those guys, trade Santana to Cleveland for Salazar or Clevenger (or Santana + for Salazar and Kipnis) than give up that much. 22. I have been against this trade for Archer only because of the amount we seem to have to give up to get him. If we are going to "go for it", let's then go for it. Trade for Archer and Odorizzi. Archer, Anderson, Odorizzi, Davies, and Chancin. Who knows if Nelson will be able to pitch effectively again. Acher and Odorizzi for Santana, Burnes Woodruff. Ray, Dubon, Bickford and Gatewood. (I am sure there will be a few of you that will say this is not enough). That still leaves Ortiz, Peralta, Diplan, Supak, Hauser, Pennington, Medorios, and Ponce and starting pitcher prospects. I still do not want to trade Burnes and would do everything to keep him out of the deal.
  23. If not a closer, he might be a seventh or eighth inning guy. And he can even pinch hit....in a pinch.
  24. I read that as Rosenthal saying TB views Archer as a controllable ace and Santana or Phillips are not enough of a centerpiece.
  25. Send me to the Nut House.
