  1. Junior needs to get a month of starts to prove that he isn't the pitcher he was two years ago. Ride that horse until he stops running! Keep riding that horse!
  2. 3 for 5 Thursday Night, good sign!

  4. A very deep minor league pitching staff makes me very happy!
  5. Explanations that are valid: They didnt like cobb... if he blows I'll own it. They think we suck and this is a rebuild year. Maybe until Nelson is back and Burnes Peralta (FP in the pen) and Hiura are up we don't have it. Then why sign a 32 year old OF to a BACK LOADED DEFERED deal. Write that contracr BACKWARDS. That doesn't add up. That points to a mistake. They think they are smarter than everyone in the league and have stuff that's far better than anyone thinks it is. ANYONE. Good luck. Riding 2 time through Suter Guerra or a kid or Miley. Good luck. They are CHEAP! Those are your possibilities. Pick 1. I will pick number five, Riding 2 time through Suter Guerra or a kid or Miley., for $200 Alex. Suter does not have multiple years of experience with huge quantities of inning, but his era is 2016 was 3.32, 2017 was 3.42, and this spring training 2018 is 3.00. Chance of accomplishing an era of under 3.71 this year, 70%. Chances of era of under 4.00, 85%. Guerra was our opening day starter last year after a 2016 with am era of 2.81, 5.21 in 2017 (injured most of the year), and this spring training has a 2.45 era. Chances of accomplishing an era of 3.71 this year, 90% (when his elbow gives out, he is done). Chance his elbow lasts until Nelson returns, 75%. Woodruff is about what Nelson was as a rookie (2016 4.62). Woodruff in 2017 had a 4.81 era. Chance of accomplishing an era of 3.71, 10%. Chance of era under 4.00, 35%. Burnes has no MLB data. Chance of 3.71 era, 10%. Miley gets cut and you do not give him a chance with his track record. FINAL SUMMATION Sutor and Guerra are not pretty choices, but they can be a short to mid term option until Nelson returns and the youngsters are ready.
  6. Breakout: Jacob Nottingham. Smashes AAA, then off to MKE. Runner-Up Kodi Medeiros Sleeper: Nick Raminez. My favorite prospect (because he has only been pitching a year). Runner-Up Bubba Derby Bust: Corey Ray. Until the crickets stop ringing in my ears, I will assume bust. Runner-Up Jorge Lopez Comeback: Tyrone Taylor. He is still fairly young and has a boatload of talent. Runner-Up Nathan Kirby
  7. I will do my best High Heat and a tell everyone that Wade Miley will not be a Brewer!
  8. SP: Anderson, Chacin, Davies, Guerra, Suter RP: Knebel, Albers, Hader, Logan, Hoover, Williams, Jeffers, Barnes C: Pina, Bandy 1B: Thames, Braun 2B: Villar 3B: Shaw SS: Arcia Utility: Sogard, Perez OF: Yelich, Cain, Santana
  9. 1 Corbin Burnes 2 Keston Hiura 3 Brandon Woodruff 4 Taylor Williams 5 Tristen Lutz 6 Brett Phillips 7 Bubba Derby 8 Luis Ortiz 9 Freddy Peralta 10 Lucas Erceg 11 Trent Grisham 12 Cody Ponce 13 Kodi Medeiros 14 Jake Gatewood 15 Nick Raminez 16 Tyrone Taylor 17 Trey Supak 18 Adrian Houser 19 Troy Stokes 20 Marcos Diplan 21 Drake Owenby 22 Mario Feliciano 23 Mauricio Dubon 24 Joantgel Segovia 25 Josh Pennington 26 Phil Bickford 27 Jacob Nottingham 28 Corey Ray 29 Braden Webb 30 Nathan Kirby 31 Devin Williams 32 Thomas Jankins 33 Tristan Archer 34 Tyler Webb 35 Jon Perrin 34 Je’Von Ward 35 Angel Ventura 36 KJ Harrison 37 Zack Brown 38 Demi Orimoloye 39 Caden Lemons 40 Gilbert Lara
  10. Well, I know one poster around here who will agree with that I will gone Clancey and Swing, go Suter go!
  11. I think this topic is divided into to sides. Do you believe in Suter or Do you not believe in Suter. If he pitches near what his results were from last year, we will be ok. He kind of reminds me of Mike Fiers from when the Brewers had him. 3.66 era for 341 innings over 5 years. Not bad, but you always expect him to fail. I think Suter can replicate these results. Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff Sutor at 3.66 That would be ok until/if Nelson gets bad.
  12. Vogt goes down, contract not guaranteed, I hear in the distance....Luc, Luc Luc
  13. CBS Sports is trying to sell the idea why the Brewers should sign him???? https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/heres-why-the-brewers-should-put-a-cherry-on-a-great-offseason-and-sign-jake-arrieta/
  14. I think it comes into play far more than you might think and has as much to do with the threat of a throw as an actual throw. Some scenarios where the advantage comes in will never be a stat that is tracked either. It is harder for a runner on 1st to advance to 3rd on a single to left field because the throw from left, typically, will be shorter. A fair number of singles to right field, however, with a good to great baserunner, allow for a 2 base advancement. Having a right fielder with an above average arm, if nothing else, makes the 3rd base coach a touch more hesitant to bring his guy to 3rd on a single to right. If Yelich is in RF, the game plan will be that runners have the green light to take 2 bases on virtually every single to right field because Yelich will need a few things to go right for him to make a play. If it is someone with a better arm, the game plan may very well be "pick up your 3rd base coach as soon as the ball clears the infield" and if that 3rd base coach has any hesitation in his decision ... the guy will be held. Never a stat that will be tracked. But having an arm in RF will save runs. Mentally note to yourself who our RF is every game this year and watch how runners treat him if/when going from 1st to 3rd on a single. I'm willing to bet only the top flight guys (think Billy Hamilton) will test Brett Phillips if Phillips' momentum is coming forward. I'm willing to bet any non catcher or 1b will be on the move if Yelich is out there, all other things equal. I saw Phillips play in Chattanooga a couple of years ago and he caught a ball on the edge of the warning track in straight away center field with no body movement forward. he took two steps and threw a dart to 3rd base as the runner tied to advance. The throw had one bounce and even though the runner was safe, it had to be the longest , most accurate throw I have ever seen in my life. He is your right fielder for the future, period. Santana can go, Braun can go, but Phillips needs to stay.

  16. That is why you have to be comfortable with him signing elsewhere.
  17. Just sign Cobb. 5 years $76 (year 5 is 14 mill) with a fifth year team option and a $4 mill buyout. Basically 4 years at $66 mill. I keep going up just a little, but I do want another starter and Cobb is semi-affordable.
  18. Look at it this way, that is one less team needing a starting pitcher. All of the big FA just lost about 20% of their leverage.
  19. If Vogt's arm strength is back (which he said in a JS article) I would say keep him as the leftie bat then plays well with Pina. And it is cheaper! I would go a little higher for Cobb if needed, maybe 4/64, but no fifth year guarantee.
  20. I took a look at Estrada's splits - and his career totals as a starter were 943.1 IP in 161 starts. That's an average of just under six innings, with a career ERA of 4.05. I think Suter's capable of stretching out to six or seven innings a start, especially if the Brewers avoid the AAA/MLB and bullpen/rotation shuffling. In terms of ERA, I think Suter will be better, mostly because I see his BB9 being a bit lower (2.4 to Estrada's 2.8). I think he's also better at avoiding the gopher ball (1.0 to Estrada's 1.4) over his career. The latter is actually almost a third lower than Estrada's. His H9 and K9 are not as good as Estrada's, but the BB/K ratio is slightly better (2.93 to 2.91). All in all, if Suter in 2018 takes a step forward, it may be time to see about giving him an extension, say, five years, $30 million? I like Suter, but YIKES!
  21. Miley is a "We really are going to move on without you" bluff for the FA we are looking at. His contract doesn't count if he doesn't make the big team, which he won't, even if we don't sign a FA.
  22. What if Junior regains his 2016 stuff? what if YoGo turns around to be a solid 3-4 starter? What if Burnes is the real deal and we cannot keep him off the MLB roster? What if Sutor has developed a knuckleball over the winter? ok , ok I will take the last one back. There are a lot of ifs there.
  23. Bingo! Just stick to your guns.
  24. 4/68 is my limit Would like it to be 4/60
  25. Yes. And I think it's pretty fair both ways. I would do that. I might throw in someone like Perrin in the deal to get it done.
