  1. Position Players 1.Willie Harris He can play just about anywhere and has a little pop. 2. Scottie Po He can hit off the bench and he can run. 3.Felipe Lopez Again, he can hit off the bench and can run a little. Starting Pitchers 1. Ben Sheets He is on the scrap heap! Bullpen 1 .Brian Fuentes Not on the scrap heap ,but just think.
  2. MNB said I am saying that if Gamel makes the team, he needs to start more than just once in a while. When we face a rightie that Gamel has some success with or McGehee does not have success with, it would be a perfect time to start Gamel. Or maybe McGehee just needs a day off. Or maybe Mcgehee is slumping and needs a couple of days to sit and think. Or maybe McGehee can give Weeks a day off. Or maybe McGehee tweaks one of his finely tuned hamstrings. I think a good manager can find 55 games during the year for Gamel to start. If he can, I think Gamel will produce number similar to McGehee. If he can't, Gamel should not be on the roster and sent to AAA.
  3. If Gomez, Benecourt and McGehee (Gamel on bench) sit every third day, our bench looks much better. It is all about matching your hitters to the opposing starting pitcher. Maybe we have that in our new manager. One can only hope. That being said, sign Willie Harris. He, along with Benecourt and Gamel (McGehee) can give us power off the bench.
  4. No kidding. Put Podsednik in CF with Betancourt at SS and the Brewers would have nothing but mediocre to bad defensive players at every single position on the diamond. A smart manager would not put them in the game together. Since Macha is gone, maybe we have a shot. Pods is in the game with Counsell (tough rightie pitchers). You let Pods bat 3 times and replace him in about the 6-7 inning with Gomez. Reverse the situation when you are facing lefties. Benecourt and Gomez start and replace Benecourt in the 6-7 inning. You may need to keep Cruz or bring him up once the grind starts.
  5. Where do you guys think these 3 will play this year?
  6. Please call Baltimore right now Mr. Southpaw and offer this. I have been bouncing this idea in my head for weeks. If I were Dougie, I would.
  7. SO everyone is assuming now that we are going to keep Fielder for 2011? I gotta ask myself a question though. If the Orioles or Dodgers offered Adam Jones or Matt Kemp for Fielder, would you do it? Are we better with:Fielder & Gomez/Dickersonor Gamel & Jones or Kemp I am kind of struggling with that to be honest. Somebody convince me the Brewers are better with Fielder & Gomez/Dickerson than the other combination because I think I would make those deals. Fielder and Gomez for Jones and Hardy Lineup Weeks 2B Hardy SS Gamel RF Braun LF Hart 1B Jones CF McGhee 3B Lucroy C
  8. Dado says, "Lopez is worse than Betancourt at SS, using UZR. Harris has started 3 games at SS in his career. Cruz makes Betancourt look like Cal Ripken offensively." This thread is about a left handed stick. I said SS in a pinch. That means almost never. Harris can fill a lot of needs (position wise) and, in a pinch (almost never) when all else fails, he can play SS. He is a pretty good baseball player. He would be very good on our bench. Lopez, like Harris, would play SS almost never. He would be a good bench player if at an efficient rate of pay.
  9. "No more buwwets?" Elmer Fudd.
  10. How about..... Willie Harris... He can play just about anywhere, can play good defense for all the positions he play and hits ok. or Felipe Lopez...Pretty close to Harris in that he ican be used at multiple positions. Both can play SS in a pinch.
  11. Yoshii, I like the idea if Willie Harris, bats left, can play center, has a little pop. Harris or Scottie Po would be good, low cost additions. Sign one of those guys and resign Cappy and we are ready for spring training.
  12. Does anyone have any news about Angel? I hope he is primed for a big comeback!
  13. Number 4 pitchers don't cost $30 mill for 3 years. No no no no
  14. Prince $14 mill, Rivas and Heckathorn ( maybe Wily P) for Garza. Prince is a perfect fit for one year (for free people!). The other two will be 4-5 types. If I am Tampa and want to win now, this is a very good option.
  15. How much would Victor Martinez cost? Prince goes, Victor comes in and we have a lot of flexibility?
  16. Edmonds and Hoffman to San Diego? Would give both a legit shot at the post-season, and give Hoffman a chance to finish out with the team he spent the majority of his career with. They have nice arms at AA. Maybe one of Luebke, Hefner or Castro. I really like the numbers on Castro.
  17. Finally Mike McClendon comes in at 43. All he does in perform.
  18. Did anyone see Harts lame attempt to bunt on the first pitch?
  19. I don't get the logic, Joe. If a player signs a $100 mill contract for one year, he gets paid $100 mill for one years work. If a player signs a five year $100 mill contract and goes blind after the first year, he get $20 mill for the first year plus another $40 mill over the nest four years. He gets a guaranteed portion of he contract and the club does not get stuck with the entire contract for work not completed.
  20. I was talking to a friend today about this whole idea and he said, "How about ending guaranteed salaries, maybe something like guaranteeing only half of the salary." It would make it a lot easier for small market teams to sign their stars long term.
  21. Joe and FV I am sorry I spoke with any examples that did not associate with baseball to offend either of you. It is hard to make a point without using some sort of examples.
  22. Fix revenue sharing by having MLB take over all local broadcast rights and a salary cap becomes meaningless. Should baseball be equal in America? Should Selig equal Obama? Should the Yankees equal the top 3% incomes who pay the majority of taxes so the others can survive? The Yankees ownership has a right to do with their money what they want. Taking the Yankees broadcast rights is equal to putting a cap on player earnings. They are Americans and they have a right to earn as much as they can, just like any baseball player. When CC blows out his arm and they owe another $100 million to him, you will not see them cry, they will just go and get another pitcher. That is why it is easy to hate the Yankees, which I rather enjoy. Life in America is not about being equal, it is about making the best with what you have. The current system is not equal, but it is fair. When you join, you know the rules. If you don't like the rules, you should not have joined. I'm not trying to be ugly, but if you don't like it, go watch Little League, Babe Ruth League, or American Legion baseball. That is where baseball is being played for the right reasons anyway.
