  1. Nobody ever talks about RHP Mike McClendon. I saw him pitch last year in AA and and I thought he was really good. Since no one ever talks about him, I thought he was lucky or my untrained eye was a little off. Now he is on the AAA roster at Nashville. Maybe he wasn't lucky!
  2. What if they piggybacked the 5th and 6th starters (Suppan and Parra)? It might help keep the bullpen fresher and give both some work.
  3. JB, It is hard to argue generations with people who have not lived through generations. Nothing against the pups.
  4. Everybody seems to think that batting the pitcher at 8 is a good idea. If we do that why don't you move Braun and Fielder up one spot? You probably get an extra 10-15 AB out of them for the season and that might be 1-2 game winners. How about a lineup like this.... vs Lefties 1 Weeks 2 Braun 3 Fielder 4 McGehee** 5 Hart** 6 Escobar 7 Right handed Catcher 8 Pitcher **(Counsell, Gamel, Gerut or other PH double switch as defense is need late in games) 9 Gomez vs Righties 1 Weeks 2 Braun 3 Fielder 4 Gamel** 5 Gerut ** 6 Zaun 7 Hart 8 Pitcher **(Gomez, McGehee or other PH double switch as defense is need late in games) 9 Escobar
  5. Thanks for the information, CC. Maybe we can have him platoon with one of the young righty catchers. It doesn't look like he should be playing 4/5 of the time.
  6. Being it the National League, you have to like that he is a switch hitter. Anybody have his splits between right and left hand hitting?
  7. To Prince, we are going to have to go in the 25 million per year range. Compared to Ryan Howard, we have waaayyy underpaid for Prince. maybe someting like.... 2010 $11 + 2111 $25 2112 $30 You end up buying an extra year for about whar Howard is getting now (3 years $66 or 2 years $55 however you want to look at it). If you want to win now during this cycle, I think you need to try to extend the contract at least one year. I think it works for Boris because Prince will still be able to get a big Free Agent contract for 2013-2017. I just don't see the logic in spending long term money on pitchers (3-4 years Lowe, Johnson etc) unless you are going to try to keep Prince a bit longer.
  8. Lowe Kelly Johnson 2B Davis Ross C Young Pitcher (Parr, Ridgeway) $ 10,000,000 for Suppan Hart Lowe is such a liability, I would need a quite a bit to make it work. I have always like Johnson and he had a bad year last year, Ross is cheap and would solve the back up question to Lucroy, the young pitchermay help down the line and you cannot argue with cash. Lowe minus Suppan = $31,000,000 minus $10,000,000 = $21,000,000. To me that is still a little too much risk. If Johnson = Hart then Ross and the pitcher help make up for the risk. Don't beat me up too bad.
  9. McGehee, Salome, and a young pitcher. We need to keep the lefty/power combo that Gamel can provide. If they must have Gamel then I pass.
  10. Rodent, The way you dance, you shouldn't be talking about positional talent. Just kidding....
  11. Welcome Back Kapler. Sounds like a great sit com!
  12. If Prince is traded and with man other capable infielders, what do you think of this lineup? Vs Righties 2B Lopez L 1B Weeks R 3B Gamel L LF Braun R RF Catalanotto L SS Counsell L CF Gerut L C Rivera R Pitcher Vs Lefties 2B Lopez R 1B Weeks R 3B McGahee R LF Braun R RF Hart R SS Escobar R CF Kapler R C Rivera R Pitcher I think if he is traded Lopez is a must sign. We have been screaming for a leadoff hitter for years. Weeks would probably do well at first. The rookies would not have the pressure of playing everyday, even though Gamel and Escobar would need to be played more than a true platoon situation. I would love to have Gabe K back in a Brewer uniform. If we have to lose Prince, I think this lineup can hit 160ish home runs and be adaquate with the pitching that Fielder and Hardy will return.
  13. This thread is about how to make us better in 2010. Bottom line is we need starting pitching. Bottom line is we need starting pitching. FA or trades, bottom line is we need starting pitching. In Free Agency , there is not much to like. If we trade, Prince and Hardy is the only logical option. Prince is selling high right now, Hardy low, and we need multiple (2-3) starting pitchers. To me it is a no brainer. I am sure most of you will disagree.
  14. He is only with us for the next two years. Where will we get the pitching from?
  15. Will Fielder ever be more valuable to another team than during this off season? Two year relatively cheap for a star. If we can get two young arbyless pitchers, I say do it. Will Hardy's or Hart's value ever be lower? Probably not. So we should keep both, but with Escobar looking ready, Hardy seems like the odd man out. Maybe we can get a Young 4-5 starter for him. Then resign Lopez and Counsell. along with not signing Cameron (Type B), Hoffman (Type B) and Kendall. I would love to cut Suppan, but after doing that with Hall, I don't think we can afford that. If we can make these trades and add 3 quality young arms and lose Fielder, we cannot expect much until 2011. But we will have a young and potentially potent team for the future. My lineup would look something like this...... 1. 2B Lopez 2. CF Weeks/Geruts 3. 1B Gamel 4. LF Braun 5. 3B McGahee 6 RF Hart/Catalanatto 7. C Rivera 8. P Pitcher 9. SS Escobar Bench Geruts Catalanatto Lucroy/ Salome Counsell Starting Pitchers 1. Gallardo 2. Young Stud #1 3. Bush 4. Parra 5. Young Stud #2 Bullpen LR Suppan LR Young Stud #3 Riske Stetter Coffey DiFelice Villanuava Braddock I think we could win 75- 80 games and be very exciting in 2011 and beyond.
  16. He has a very good arm and play better than average defense. If he can hit .250 with some power, he will be better than anything we have had in a number of years.
  17. Lee has an option for next year, so they really both have 1.5 years left. Sorry, I did not see that in Cot's.
  18. What would it take to get Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez? Lee, the rental and Martinez has one and 1/2 years left on a good contract (5.7 this year + 7.0 in 2010). I would start with Hart, Salome and Rivera (I doubt they would want Kendall), then add two prospects. Heather, Dillard, and other AAA players could round it out. I think the upgrade in hitting at the catcher position plus a partner for Yovani puts us past the cards and Cubs. Anybody have any thoughts?
  19. Haw about Willie Randolph. We can save money on the cost of a uniform.
  20. The year Braun played third base, he was Rookie of the Year. There are a bunch of players who have had poor fielding seasons, but not many of them hit like Braun. His fielding from two years ago just does not seem that important of a point, whatever side you are on. I am sure Gamel will be a better fielder and probably not as good of a hitter (I hope not).
  21. Why would you want that trash from Atlanta? Hart is double the worth of the three combined.
  22. It was Furcal. Being in Atlanta, the Braves fans were very upset. If I were a GM, I would make an offer expire in 24 hours or something like that. Letting it hang there just gives agents a chance to be more greasy than they normally are.
