  1. Oops, that is a stretch. For some reason I was thinking he finished the year strong in AA, but that was high-A. You are right, 5% is more the odds there. As long as we control Weeks through 2011 though, we should be ok there.
  2. Last year, Vazquez was not the answer on these boards either. The two previous years to this one, Guthrie would be the answer.
  3. I'd 100% offer him arby. Lawrie is likely ready to take over in 2011 anyway, so offering arby would only keep Lopez here for a year. That enables us to play either he or Weeks at 2B next season. If Weeks has value despite his injury due to the fact it looked like he was turning the corner early in this past season, we can move him for pitching. If not, I am sure we could get something of value for a year of Lopez at a reasonable salary in another contract year. Or you keep both and have great options. That'd be far from horrible. But I am 100% confident we will be offering arbitration to Lopez and 100% confident we won't sign him to a long term deal.
  4. I think, based on comments I've read about Cameron and what he's worth on this site, that many would be just fine with Granderson for Fielder given that he can play the position that is CF. I personally find it pretty ludicrous, but that's just my personal opinion.
  5. Weren't we close to getting him way back in a Jeff Bennett trade during an off-season? I think he might have been on the Phillies at the time.
  6. The Hardy support and Escobar attempted downplaying...............let's just say I'm to the point where I'll just nod my head up and down and walk away.
  7. Glad to see you'd be on board with this one. The fact I would have done this straight up deal last off-season makes me really happy if we can do it after this off-season.
  8. Thanks Kram. I doubt we'd keep him down there that long under almost any condition, but maybe if Lopez and Counsell both return, we'd keep him down there provided JJ is expectedly dealt.
  9. Just a hypothetical question here that I know would never happen, so please don't focus posts on this.... But if JJ is traded, about what date next year would Escobar have to stay down until to delay his free agency a year? Thanks guys. It's been fun preveiwing possible moves this off-season the past few days as I sit on my laptop after surgery. I think I've posted more the past two days than I have all month.
  10. Okay, so I like this deal a whole lot and some of you will hate it. But I wanted to check Baltimore fans feelings on this one, so I started a thread on one of their boards. Sorry I had to speak as our team's rep on some of their questions, as I know we don't all agree on things. Anyway, I think this is a great fit for both teams and very realistic and here is the thread. I'd love to keep it going in this thread too (just really am only excited about the off-season given where our team is at record wise). http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=251&f=2023&t=4768262&sto=MS_61011574
  11. That's closer Pingman, but I am not sure we'd be looking at getting only two players in a Fielder trade, especially if one is a Boras client. It'd be more likely Hanson coming our way with two others to get the deal closer to being a fit.
  12. Well, we don't have the bullpen help to really give up, but we sure as heck can come up with an interesting offer with our infield returning, especially if we offer arby to Lopez.
  13. Oriole fans seem to like the idea of JJ for Guthrie. Not sure if you guys would or not, but I think he'd make a nice affordable #3 starter for the next two years and maybe beyond. Stats aren't great this year, nor our JJ's, but the past two years they were just fine.
  14. Yeah, I know Lackey is the tops there. I guess I just think the other two "could" be top two of the rotation types for us for at least next year and figured it'd cost Mark A a sizable contract. My bad making it seem like they all were the same by jumbling them together. I just think Mark A is going to spend big on a starting pitcher. Maybe it'll be by giving up little in talent but taking a lot in a traded contract (Derek Lowe, Aaron Harang, etc.) But I think we end up with a #2 and a #3 starter that will improve our team (one via a JJ trade and the other via Mark A opening up his wallets considerably).
  15. Maybe Alcides Escobar, Mat Gamel, and Brett Lawrie would entice Atlanta enough to get us one expensive year of Vazquez.
  16. We could easily put together a deal for Vazquez (though it'd need to be a good offer). I do agree with you though that short of the three players nobody wants to trade on our team, Jurrjens and Hanson would seem pretty unlikely for us to obtain.
  17. Fine. I'll let him be the one exception, but you get the obvious drift that basically ANY player is going to be more valuable if you wait a year, so we could whine about any player that's every come up through the system practically. Which is why it is a little funny to me that a few ONLY do this with Escobar.
  18. Braun and Fielder would have helped us more a year later. Gallardo would have helped us more a year later. Etc. Etc. Etc. He is right though, but really you could say that about any good player.
  19. Hey, I was one of the few around here willing to give up to get him last off-season. His value in my view does not rise and fall as much as some maybe think. It's a legit offer straight up.
  20. Yep, another half-year of this type of production out of JJ and he becomes another Bill Hall that we'd gladly shed the contract of for a wiffle ball tee and an incrediball.
  21. It makes sense that Mark A ponies up some dough for a Lackey/Escobar/Washburn pitcher and also that JJ nets us a Guthrie to help with the rotation. I am not sure what else needs to be done, other than players simply playing better and some more tweaks to make the roster/depth better in more minor facets. Next year's team should be able to hit and the bullpen should be strengthened by knocking two guys from this year's rotation back there.
  22. Morrow was the name that popped into my had from Seattle in a straight up deal should Jack Z decide he wants JJ.
  23. While it's nice to sell high on all our players, I disagree that our plan should be built around doing this at all costs. Sometimes you have to sell lower than you maybe would have a few months or a year earlier. Hopefully we don't have to do this often with most our players. But Hardy's time is done here if we can get a decent enough return and all parties involved are likely ready to move on. I agree Al, the difference between what we get for JJ this off-season vs. what we'd get for him, say at the deadline next year with him back to his career norm numbers would not be nearly as large as people think. His value won't be that low this off-season, nor would it be that high in the future if/when he rebounds.
  24. Exactly. Where Vazquez could very well only be available if "bought high", there is a decent chance this off-season is the lowest you can buy McGehee. Which is why I could see both sides having reservations about a deal involving their player leaving for the other.
  25. Yeah, Hardy for Baker would have had to have been done after last season. I am afraid we couldn't get a guy like Baker for him now though. Baltimore remains a much better fit, though some other type of deal between the two teams could still benefit both sides.
