  1. I'd rather not make the playoffs with Prince than not make the playoffs with Felix. My point is that I am not really for a Prince trade that doesn't bring us back multiple players/near ready prospects that can help us the next few/several years.
  2. I'd really like the move too, provided his loyalty to Macha won't be as strong as Ted Simmons loyalty to Yost was. I'd also be all for a Suppan for Perez deal if we can make it work financially. Mulder I am more iffy on. Wasn't he supposed to play at some point this year? He's almost been out of the game for too long to count on for anything other than AAA depth.
  3. What's the deal with McGowan? I know he's hurt, but are the odds of him being healthy enough to help us next year worth possibly buying low on his uncertainty?
  4. He's not really an "old" 30 either. I believe we'd get him for three more years at a nice enough salary to be able to go get a Harden/Lackey type as our only expensive free agent addition. Mark A will pony up for one of them. I am thinking Harden will be the guy. Gallardo, Harden, Guthrie, Bush, Parra with Suppan as the long man/sixth starter will be enough to get us back into the playoff conversation next year. Git 'er dun Doug.
  5. I doubt it. What I could see those is CZ being dealt somewhere and falling out of favor there and blowing up too majorly, leading for him to be sold low by that team, to where we might come shwooping in either mid-season or after next season.
  6. I agree that for us, he is ahead of Bush and Parra and would be a #3. As far as his numbers across the board being of a playoff team's #3.........................................I'm not looking at the right numbers. But I agree that he could help us some. And just to show I am not always against you JB, just recently it seems we have had differing opinions on possible targets, I really like the idea of going after McCarthy.
  7. Numbers are saturated pitching in the AL East. I would expect him to do quite well in the NL Central next year.
  8. I can be convinced on this I suppose. Just not nuts if he's only a slight improvement over Looper. I really think we need to get a #2 and a #3 starter and he sound like a #4 at best. I have watched him pitch twice only however. I know Doug will make a move and hopefully two moves to pump up our starting rotation. I just hope he goes after the right guys.
  9. I'm not real high on this guy. Rather than give up something of value, we should just go with the same staff as this past year and pray they can pitch much better. But I wouldn't expect KK to do much to improve our starting pitching and certainly wouldn't give up Hart for him.
  10. Is this the same stat that said JJ was worth 20 million last year? Rather than use one of fifty peculiar stat formulas, tell me the starting pitcher you'd like to get for Hardy, and I'll tell you about his warts. Or, if you don't want to trade Hardy for a starter, tell me the two guys you plan to bring in to help the rotation, and I'll tell you about THEIR warts. You want to shoot down Guthrie. I'm telling you he is as good as we can get on many levels. If you disagree, tell me about the two starters you'd get.
  11. To be able to get a guy that can be slotted ahead of Bush and Parra (and Suppan if you penciled him into next year's rotation for which I don't) at a reasonable salary and under control for a few years for just JJ....................I just think we should stop coming up with reasons NOT to make this trade if we can. I can come up with warts for any name with any chance of coming to Milwaukee this off-season to help our starting staff out, and probably many more warts than Guthrie would possess.
  12. Guthrie is a harder thrower than you think. And when we traded Burnie, he was coming off a very nice season, not a JJ 2009 season.
  13. That is nice to see. Thanks for the link. Honestly, I won't even search out ESPN stuff anymore because it is slow loading for me with all the java, there's always a popup it seems even though hardly any other sites I go to give me a popup, and almost everything there seems to be an insider article.
  14. I think those throwing out 15/per have poinpointed his "healthy" value. Problem is, there will be at least one team that will give him the contract as though he actually WILL be healthy throughout the contract. So 4/60 will definitely be in the cards for Harden.
  15. Suppan, then Looper, then Piniero? I am sorry, but I am not going to put my eggs in a Dave Duncan-made starting pitching basket anymore. Even if Piniero is the exception, of which there have proven to be very few, I feel we should look elsewhere. As far as weakening their staff, STL just will come up with another 15-17 game winner from the scrap heap that Duncan (should he return) will make look like an all-star. I'd maybe give that deal to Lackey though.
  16. I guess I just think on this subject that at the LEAST, we should be counting on one of Lucroy or Salome to start in 2011. So I see absolutely no reason to do anything drastic for a season of work at the catching position. I personally would love to go with Rivera and Salome this year and save money for elsewhere and be that much more ready to go with Salome and lucroy in 2011. Under no condition am I trading Gamel for a guy I'd really only use for one year. This guy did not go from basically untouchable to this type of value during the second half of the season in my opinion.
  17. I am not certain we'd have a match, though several here would love to target your prospects. I think Hardy goes for a starting pitcher ready to help us in 2010. We might have to look to other teams like maybe Boston, Cincinatti, and Minnesota to get that. I could be wrong though, and I wouldn't be opposed to adding pitching prospects in a Hardy deal, but I have an incredibly strong feeling that Melvin will target immediate starting pitching help only in any JJ deal.
  18. My thinking is 1) I want Looper gone 2) I want Suppan to leave a bad enough impression where he won't be counted on as anything more than a sixth starter in case of injury and otherwise will be a longman. 3) This is tough to say, but I want Parra and Bush to be our #4 and #5 next year and not to mislead over the last month that they should be counted on as anything more. This should help lead Melvin to getting us two starters above Bush and Parra (one through a trade and one through an albeit moderately risky free agent signing).
  19. Yep, it's a nobrainer to go with Rivera next year along with Salome. Let Lucroy work the system through AAA to save his clock and come up (possibly as the starter depending on how he does in AAA and ST) in 2011.
  20. Guthrie is the perfect straight up match. It's good for both teams. A buy-low and a sell-low for both teams. Both had poor seasons this year and much more respectable ones the year before. Yet, I'd have done this trade after JJ's good year and Guthries good year prior to this season (still would have matched up well value-wise). I see no reason why the two teams need to even bring up any other names. The trade works perfectly for both teams and is doesn't need to get complicated with prospects or salaries. BTW, can you link where in your forum you have the threads with JJ talk? I tried sifting through but found a multitude of threads on that site (which means there's lots of interest in the O's and that is a good thing)!
  21. Dare I say a goal should be to have Suppan, Parra, Bush, and Looper pitch poorly enough so that Doug HAS to get at least two new starters? Sounds like a really poor attitude, but maybe Doug thinks we need to prove to be even worse than we have been before he admits we need to get better externally.
  22. Not sure what we could offer Toronto for Halladay. I am guessing it'd have to be something like Gamel, Lawrie, Salome/Lucroy, and Parra. But would we want to give up this package for just one year of Halladay? I believe he said he prefers the AL and doesn't want to hit, so is there any chance he'd resign with us at the time of a trade?
  23. I agree Roco. I do not think the team as a whole is putrid. I do feel we need to move Suppan to the bullpen for the final year of his contract and add two starting pitchers that at least can be #3 starters for us (with one filling the #2 starter spot for us by default). JJ Hardy should be able to get us someone resembling a #3 starter. I've have mentioned trading him for Jeremy Guthrie to the point where I am now blue in the face. The other starter should be a free agent. Lackey would be best, but Davis or Washburn might be more realistic. Regardless of who you get, you have to bank on them being able to pitch to the degree of being a solid #3. If we can add two good enough starters, we can return this offense (minus JJ and Kendall) and bullpen (minus Weathers) and be a team that can get to the 85-95 win threshold.
  24. My key points and roster 1) Offer arby to Lopez and Hoffman. Hoffman is retained while Lopez nets us a second round pick and a sandwich pick. Counsell resigns for a year. Looper and Kendall and Weathers are all allowed to walk. 2) Trade JJ for Jeremy Guthrie straight up. This appears to me to be the fairest and most realistic name we can get for JJ. I think both clubs sign off on this one. 3) Sign Jarrod Washburn for 3 years and 23 llion. 4) Gamel starts the season in AAA 5) Salome and Rivera are the catchers 6) Narveson is the final pitcher to make my mock roster, but that slot can be a revolving door (just wanted to put another lefty on the team) 7) Cameron resigns for one year at seven million. Starters Weeks Escobar Braun Fielder McGehee Hart Cameron Rivera Pitcher Bench Counsell Iribarren Gerut Salome Heether Starters Gallardo Washburn Guthrie Bush Parra Bullpen Suppan McClung Coffey Stetter Villanueva Narveson Hoffman
