  1. By all accounts his defense is getting better and should be passable as a catcher. Maybe slightly below average, but far from bad. And if his bat is top ten or so as a catcher in the majors (not saying it will be)....................I just wouldn't move him right now until we see firsthand that he can't catch.
  2. You're really feeling this issue, aren't you Brewer Fever?
  3. Let me ask you this...Do you think we planned on doing this all year long? Not making the playoffs and having Hardy hit like a AAA player? He needs to go down now, and if he doesn't do well down there and Escobar does alright up here, he can stay down there until his free agency is delayed. I'd like to see proof of other teams' past examples that this is going to tick off agents and keep us from signing the Loopers and the Suppans before I get my pants all filled up.
  4. Well, I sure hope Doug does what's best for JJ Hardy rather than what's best for the organization and make sure to keep his service time this season intact. Sarcasm.
  5. Quick question - A few posters on the mlbtraderumors Hardy thread are saying this is brilliant sending Hardy down because it will delay his free agency until AFTER 2011! Is there anything to this or any way this would be possible? Thanks in advance...
  6. Next up...Kendall for Salome hopefully.
  7. Are you telling me he'd have been canned had he kept his job as the bullpen coach??? My point isn't that he was horrible as a pitching coach and deserved to go. But the staff struggled mightily, so the guy with no track record as a pitching coach now will not be able to coach in his beloved Milwaukee.
  8. Too bad for Billy. Probably should have stuck with the bullpen job since he's been here so long and seemed to love Milwaukee and found a niche in that role. Can't blame him for wanting to move up the ladder, but it's a lesson for those in life that can't find contentment and always want the bigger and better deal.
  9. Yeah, I think a Parra type is about accurate. It'd be nice if JJ could park at least 15 by the end of the year so that his power numbers are at least somewhat there. His average clearly won't be, but if the power numbers are somewhat there and teams can look to his previous years, we should be able to get the 2/3 type that we desire for him.
  10. Truthfully, we have no idea how someone 25 or younger will handle being a backup or spot player after years of being the starter at every other wrung on the chain. It hurt Gamel. It very likely could hurt Salome and Escobar. We'll see, but I'd be careful in saying that Gamel is a rare case. These kids probably deserve the job next year and I wouldn't do anything that might disrupt them when they look to be upgrades immediately if handled correctly.
  11. I guess my plan was to go righty, lefty, righty, lefty (Braun, Fielder, Dye, Gamel). I think quite a few people think that's a good pattern to have. And with Dye, you're getting a guy that's going to hit somewhere above .270 and hit over 30 out of the park given his landing spot in this order. That to me beats a sub .250 hitter (likely for the third year in a row) that strikes out 140 times in the meat of the order and is not to the naked eye the same CF we had defensively last year.
  12. This is essentially the arguement in a nutshell that has no way of satisfying both sides in all liklihood. I think we have our Hardy vs. Escobar version deux with this. A few of us don't rate Cam's defense as being great enough over Dye's when you consider Dye is the perfect bat for our lineup.
  13. That's not bad adding McGehee. I think you are right too on them likely insisting on a pitching prospect like an "A" baller. With the Bosox luck, they'll hit on the kid big time I'm sure.
  14. I don't think he would say he's motivated to move anyone. But we know he's called some untouchable and we know that others are not going to get a comment like that attached to their name. That phrase has been the kiss of death for quite a few now ex-brewers.
  15. Didn't we already determine Gamel would play a lousy 3B and needs to move to 1B or RF before ever playing a major league game at third? He did alright there in a small sample. Who else on our team is really bad defensively? Everyone has had a few bad moments, but I fail to see why we would not want as productive of a batting outfield as we can get, especially if the price for Dye is the same as Cameron.
  16. I'd take having another Looper and using him in the bullpen or as a 6th starter so that we didn't have to allow CV/Burns to start games this year and believe that we'd be better off than we'd be without LooperX2 and with Cameron. I fail to believe the accuracy of the always mentioned fangraphs site that people shove down throats here based on the millions of dollars of "value" it ties to players like Cameron and Hardy. Give me a second Looper over Cameron and the worst starting rotation depth in major league baseball every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
  17. I'd probably use the money on Harang hypothetically. Corner OF's are a dime a dozen. I'll let Cat be the guy for a year in this scenario to give the Cameron fans more of a shot at being right, but clearly it wouldn't be impossible to find a cost-effective option in right.
  18. So many posters think anyone that isn't Mike Cameron has no shot to help us in CF. That list starts with Braun or Hart playing there, then TGJ, then Patterson, then (insert name). I guess I am just not sure where this team would be without Cameron and with ten million dollars added to our rotation. Clearly, they'd be able to pull off a sub .500 record.
  19. I think our board over-emphasizes how good Cameron is defensively. I'll take the savings and likely offensive upgrade from moving Hart there and take my chances with money going to pitching and more pitching. I expect to be bombed by quite a few of you for thinking this way.
  20. I actually like this move quite a bit. If he can squeeze one more solid season out, our bullpen might be able to use him as a setup guy and Coffey as the closer if Hoff walks/retires.
  21. Looks like Aaron Harang just made it through waivers and can now be traded to any team. Go get him Doug.
  22. Here is a little blurb from today... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/jj_hardy/
  23. Weren't we close to obtaining Byrd a few years back. I think for Jeff Bennett, but I could be wrong?
  24. I guess I don't appreciate Cam's defense as well as some. I know I should and I realize he's very good there. But I've watched Brewer games forever like so many of you and I hardly recall a period of time where the CF was so bad that it really stuck out. I think our defense in CF had always been just fine P.C. (Pre-Cam). Didn't Kapler do fine there the 20 or so games he played in Center last year? I realize he's a downgrade to Cam, but.....come on.
  25. But I think for instance, Harang starting for Suppan (moved to bullpen) along with Hart starting for Cameron (in CF) makes us a better team. We need that ten million to fix TWO holes in our starting rotation. It'll probably take around 20 million and maybe more to do this. In this scenario, there is not ten million dollars for Cam. I don't think we improve two spots in our rotation without getting rid of Cam and taking somewhat of a hit defensively in CF.
