  1. Does anyone know what positions Catalanatto can play still at at least a decent level? I believe he's out there as well. I gotta think Nelson's days are numbered. Maybe we just bring up Iribarren, who looks to be doing pretty well in AAA and offers versatility and speed, two crucial traits for a bench guy imho.
  2. Not sure if he's better or not, but I get the feeling we'd use him more than some of our bench guys, McGehee included. In that sense, I'd look into him for sure.
  3. Jeff D'Amico and Nick Neugebauer would also like the premature extension. I don't think Gallardo follows in their footsteps, but there is no reason to risk a looooooooooooong term deal when we already have a long term deal with Yo in my eyes.
  4. Now, I see that the guy is 28 and might not be able to make it in the majors, but this is darn impressive. DeFelice sure looks like he belongs and is no spring chicken either. Just wanted to post this as a possible bullpen option should we need one during the long season.
  5. Blanco was pretty atrocious offensively when we had him but I believe brought his hitting up a bit the past five years or so ago. Beyond this year, you wonder what the near future holds for the Brewers. Do we try to sign Kendall for another year as the starter? Does he accept being a backup in Milwaukee? Does Rivera get a chance to start? Is a good year by Salome in AAA give him the starting nod next year? Is Lucroy the guy we are waiting on and thus need another year of a stopgap?
  6. Well, I looked at the alltime roster from Wikipedia and the only other name I could think of that MIGHT not have been on the power50 but and played on the brewers was Mel Stocker. He'd have been young enough I believe...
  7. Not sure Spurling was ever on it either. Or Saenz.
  8. I thought TH had said Corporan is not on the 40 either...
  9. I don't know if a team has ever went with only one catcher. I suppose it's a longshot of an option, depending upon how below average McGehee is there.
  10. Thank you Brian. I knew it was confusing and that it is rather vague on the rules. I'd prefer to wait until mid-June to bring up anyone in our long term plans barring a season ending injury given your paragraphs above.
  11. Also, can someone explain the date at which the arbitration clock gets pushed back to the next year? Hopefully that makes sense the way I worded that. I am sure some of you know what I am talking about...
  12. No catcher called up yet... http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/44015102.html EDIT: Icon.-PF
  13. Mulder to sign very soon with someone... http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiretap_archives/14542/20090422/agent_mulder_will_sign_soon/
  14. I just hope Macha doesn't use Ned's throw-away lineup every Sunday like Ned did where it featured Counsell, Rivera, Dillon, and some whatever other AAA guys we had up at the time.
  15. Tha't probably true. I suppose it's refreshing to have a "good" problem of how to get all these guys in the lineup together someday. The more I think about it, the more I think Gamel replaces Prince at first next year when Prince is dealt for pitching. That might be the key domino to fall and make this picture clearer for us.
  16. I think Gamel might hold the keys in a way. If Gamel can't stick at third, then Green should be fine there in two years. If Gamel CAN stick at third, I'd have to think Green might get a shot at second again and probably could handle it. That should put Lawrie at catcher. Also, if Lawrie is moved to second permanently, wouldn't Fryer have had more value to us? All of a sudden, our catching depth takes a bit of a hit...
  17. We have Green probably in two years though if Gamel can't handle third. If we are stop-gapping this year, we probably would be fine to stop gap in 2010 with Billy and someone cheap like Lamb for one more year. I still wish Green were moved to second, but I digress into a story for another thread on another forum.
  18. There might be a thread on him from a few months ago, so sorry if this needs to be merged. I am just wondering how cheap a team could get him for. I am thinking as low as 1yr/3mil might get it done. He's a lefthanded bat that was a brewer killer last year. His numbers were pretty outstanding in my opinion. I know he's not the defensive wiz he once was, but you've got to think he has the smarts to still decently handle even CF and both corner OF positions. I guess, as spring training is now here, I am quite worried that Gwynn/Nixon/Duffy will not be to my liking as a fourth OF'er and would think a really good and cheap option like Edmonds makes a lot of sense.
  19. This is a good lesson for us and the team. Don't count on arby to yield you a bunch of picks. Many other teams have been screwed over, though none as badly as us this year. Still, I can see this being ok if we learn from it.
  20. I think I'd need to be a math major to understand that formula, and I'm not a math major.
  21. Yep, I'm not as bent out of shape as most about likely ending up with two seconds instead of two firsts for CC and Benny. It just seems like in all sports, teams half the time pick the better player in the second round than in the first. Let's just the Brew Crew does well in round two this year.
  22. What makes sense to me would be something like Cameron and Riske for Swisher, Igawa, and Kennedy. They get the CF they want and a bullpen arm. They also get to get rid of Igawa who they don't want and Swisher who they don't need while throwing us a bone with Kennedy. It would seem fair for both sides, except to those that in my opinion . overvalue Cameron. As an aside, and as if the Yanks care one bit, remember CC really liked Cameron and Riske.
  23. I know he only went about five solid innings and always seemed to get rocked in the sixth inning last year. However, I much prefer going with him as a starter next year as opposed to as a reliever. I actually like our bullpen quite a bit even without CV. It just seems to me that CV "might" have had a string of bad luck in starts last year. He'd been a starter that'd been solid in higher quantity pitched-starts in the minors. I also have to think there is some off-season program to help him increase his durability. Given that we seem to be waiting for 2010 to compete again (or at least that even Brewer management seems to be taking a wait and see approach), I'd rather go with the younger CV as a starter as opposed to Suppan.
  24. Suppan was signed to put up the productivity Garland does. Suppan's productivity has been far below what we'd expected him to produce.
  25. From Rotoworld - The Arizona Republic reports that Jon Garland and the Diamondbacks have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with an option for 2010. According to the newspaper, "Garland's guaranteed money is believed to be in the $6 million to $8 million range" and it sounds like the option is a mutual one. Garland reportedly turned down a two-year, $14 million offer from Arizona last week. I would have liked to have beaten this offer by slightly more, but alas, it's not my money or my team.
