  1. I hate the use many have on calling about half of the starting pitchers in MLB "Suppan-like" and here comes another one. This is an update from rotoworld.com on a guy I like, Jon Garland, where I expect similar quotes. Jon Garland is looking for a two- or three-year deal, and his agent says the Orioles are among the teams interested. Baltimore makes plenty of sense as a destination for Garland. The Orioles don't want to pay top dollar for starters, but they do need an innings eater or two. Garland has quickly gone from overvalued to undervalued after a disappointing 2009 season. He's not great, but he's just 29 and he's never been hurt. He might be better off going the Kyle Lohse route and taking a one-year contract this winter. Pluses. He'll sign for three years, he's undervalued, he's never been hurt in his career, he'd be coming to the NL for the first time, he'd only be 32 when his contract were up, he's a workhorse, and he is a legitimate #3 starter that we need. Now throw me your Suppan comments!
  2. Well, I guess if I'm Doug, I start at Cano/Hughes/Kennedy for Cameron/Hall. Obviously, I'd take much less, but it's the Yankees so maybe it's possible.
  3. I could live with Nelson for a year. I think he might surprise if given the job at first.
  4. Rotoworld summarized Phillips comments and thinks Putz/Morrow would be what we want for Fielder, but they think that's a bit much. However, I have to believe that JZ would want to "give up more" as the main parts of the deal so that he can get like two prospects/nuggets (Brewer and Gindl maybe???). Also, if salaries are similar, any chance we can add in Suppan going there and Washburn going here? Is that essentially as wash, non pun intended?
  5. I hope you're right Ennder, but I actually think Attanasio has grown attached to CC to the point where there's a chance his thinking is "don't spend any money until we know for sure that we are not getting CC back".
  6. The Hart deal though should not really hinge on CC at all, as I think we're expecting it to send a hitter or two our way, not a starting pitcher.
  7. I think the Braves have someone they like at second if Johnson is gone. Not sure who that is or where I read it...
  8. I'm betting Ben wins 17+ games next year. I know most will take the under and that's precisely why Ben no longer wants to play here.
  9. I think now is the time to deal Salome to a team that is convinced he can be a good big league catcher. If Jack Z thinks he can do it, let's use him to help get us Morrow. We have Lucroy and Lawrie in the future at catcher.
  10. No kidding. I want us to resign CC if only because I'm obsessed with winning. But truthfully, the guy was 6-8 before coming to us from a pretty decent Cleveland team. Not saying the record is something that's a "tell all" but just something to keep in mind.
  11. I wonder if CC wants the Yanks to get Hall and Cameron. I'd love to dump those two contracts if possible (though I realize Cameron should yield somewhat of a decent return).
  12. I just can't fathom how we'd let a shot at Greinke get away from us. If we lose CC/Sheets like we probably will (and Doug knows this), we need a top starter more than any team in baseball (when you consider we are supposedly now a playoff contender). I just can't see why we wouldn't be more aggressive than any team in baseball for a guy like Greinke.
  13. I guess I'll hold out hope that we'd be involved in a three way trade. It seems peculiar if accurate that the holdup would be the assurance that Burnett signs with the Braves. Is the braves thinking "we either want two good starting pitchers or we don't want any"?
  14. Nice to know that we are sucking our thumbs watching a guy like Greinke get traded. If we could have dangled Hart and something marginal and we didn't because "CC's agent says we still have a shot", I will watch us take a step or two back the next few years.
  15. If we could trade Weeks for Kemp and then Hart for Kelly Johnson, I'd be quite happy.
  16. Johnson's numbers look kind of "meh" to me, at least as someone that is willing to forgive Corey Hart's end of the season slump. But I admit to not knowing a lot about him or of his potential. As a second baseman, if we have something lined up that would get us decent value for Rickie, I suppose I could be on board.
  17. From rotoworld.com "The Braves are reportedly showing interest in trading for Corey Hart, Rick Ankiel or Jeremy Hermida." Any thoughts on what would make sense for us to receive to make it a match? EDIT: Title- PF
  18. Who would you guys rather have, Corey Patterson or Jay Gibbons?
  19. There goes Dye for those of you thinking he'd make sense for us to try and get to help our outfield...
  20. It'll be interesting to see what starter we go after if Sheets/CC leave. Penney, Johnson, Garland, and Perez seem to make some sense for us.
  21. I would not trade Salome/Gillespie for Guillen. That's a top five and a top seven prospect imho. Hardly a salary dump...
  22. I must be ignorant, but can someone explain to me why a six year deal for "only" 110 million is more enticing that a 5 year, 100 million dollar deal? Clearly, I am a but lost.
  23. Well, if Sheets really does accept arby and we are able to get Kerry Wood for something like 2/18, I fully expect Melvin to targer Dunn, as he seems to fit what we need both next year and in future years (especially if Fielder is dealt in a year).
  24. Agreed. We got a heck of a deal when we traded for CC as it stands now. However, we can make that deal turn bad/horrible depending upon how much over 100 million we throw at him (if he accepted) or how long we decide to wait as other free agents start signing deals at the winter meetings.
  25. Yeah, no way we'd offer three years, and I wouldn't advocate signing him for two. Spend elsewhere. I again will state I believe the Brewers have more faith in Gamel at third than many here do. I also think (if I'm wrong in this thinking) the smart move would then be to assume Green will be ready in 2011 at the latest. No way I see us offering three years and I highly doubt we're involved at all.
