  1. I think our 1B of the future will come in the first or second round this year in the draft, and likely be ready to play by 2012. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to deal someone less than Green to get Washburn. I have no problem moving Gamel to first and going with your proposed IF in 2012. But I think Gamel will prove to be alright defensively and think we can get a better bat in that infield via the draft than what Green will offer. And I have confidence that McGehee and Heether will be able to do alright for us as subs or starters in case of injury. It just makes sense to me to dangle Green if we can get a Washburn type for him.
  2. I think we'd "like" Green. I doubt we need him. And I think we only need one of Salome/Lucroy. If you want to get a decent starting pitcher, we're going to have to give up something pretty decent. I happen to feel Gamel is the third baseman for the next several years. It also looks like McGehee and maybe the now often mentioned Heether can backup at 2B and 3B for several years. I think Green is the guy to dangle at this point. If he is the "main piece" and we can get a starter like Washburn, that's fantastic imho.
  3. Getting back on target here again, and I do enjoy the Heather convo, but Washburn had another good start last night. I like him for a few reasons. 1) It looks so far like he's going to be dependable and give solid outings consistently all year. 2) His Wisconsin ties means we might be the leader to keep him if we traded for him. 3) I am just guessing that Melvin and JZ can work out a trade that would get Seattle a fair deal without ridding us of the prospects we want to keep for certain (Escobar, Jeffress, Lawrie, etc.). Maybe something like Green or Lucroy and a pitcher like Amundson gets it done.
  4. If he doesn't allow a run all year, knock on wood, there is absolutely no chance of Hoffman NOT winning the Cy Young, provided of course that he is healthy the rest of the year and we make the post-season again.
  5. Doesn't anyone care to look at his age and stats from last year? We will imho, likely make ONE move for a starter. I am not sure if it will be a small move, medium move, or large move. But do you really want this to be that ONE move we make to help us down the stretch?
  6. Hey now, I said the 2008 version of Counsell. And I don't follow the other two anymore, so yes, quite ironic. I'll take Gwynn back and put him on the 25 for now though in exchange for Gerut.
  7. We could help the Braves out and bring back Yost for tomorrow. Since we won 2 of 3 and it's a Sunday afternoon game, it'd be time for the "Give Away Lineup" featuring the 2008 version of Counsell, Dillon, Gwynn, and I am obviously forgetting someone.
  8. Anyone think Hall was put in CF in part to gradually get him back to a supersub role? Not that he'll play a ton all over like he did 4-5 years ago, but Macha might start sprinkling him in the game at different positions as Gamel likely seizes the everyday job at third.
  9. Hard to say. I think some posters here get too into age as being a limited factor. It is a factor, don't get me wrong. But 27 is not that old imho. He's a year older than McGehee I believe. Nelson was given a chance at 26 I believe. I don't know. But his stats tell me he deserves a shot and I am not convinced he won't exceed the modest expectations many have for him. It'll be something we should all be watching (his stats this year) anyway.
  10. Not sure where he fits, but I do think he somehow is on the team next year. I am guessing not this year though. My guess would be that Hall is somehow dumped in the off-season as is one of Hardy/Escobar for pitching. That opens the door for Weeks to come back and one of Hardy/Escobar. One more guy would have to go then, and I wonder if it wouldn't be McGehee as somewhat of an "asset" after he collects 300-400 AB's this year and shows competence at the plate as well as versatility. But after writing all this, it appears to me a lot will need to happen before we see Heether in a Brewer uni.
  11. It's very hard watching Corey at the plate anymore. I can only hope, if we are fortunate enough to get to the post-season, that by that time he is part of the solution and not part of the problem.
  12. SS is the only position I am advocating doing this for. I am not saying we need to trade Fielder. And if Hart produces like he did in 2007 and the first half of last year, we can pay him more as well. But Escobar is basically ready and Hardy is a valuable trading chip. It's absolutely the easiest decision for me, just a matter of when to do it, be it now for a #2/#3 pitcher, or in the off-season.
  13. There's a decent chance Escobar can land you the same type of pitcher Hardy can land you. Maybe you need to add a little more to an Escobar package, but that depends who we are trading with. Saving 5-10 million per year is big for me. We need to shuffle out guys when we have replacements ready. We are not the Yankees and can not be sentimental toward resigning our "original core" of Fielder/Hardy/Hart at any cost. When we can replace a player and save quite a bit of money in doing so, it needs to be done for a (I'll even now call it) mid-market team. Nobody had a problem with Overbay either, but we had a cheaper option and were able to deal him for good value. The same needs to happen with Hardy, though we can debate the pros and cons of Hardy vs. Escobar tirelessly as far as what they offer ON the field, which we've done tirelessly already.
  14. Thank you. That was nice to see and pretty good quality. Keep them coming!
  15. Yep, it wouldn't surprise me to see Gamel knock 15 out of the park with a .300 average. Not sure if that's enough, but maybe this year it is.
  16. I think Hardy really does like it here. But there's probably 9-10 other places he'd like to play equal to Milwaukee, if not more. The main issue to me would be salary. I am not paying 60 million for six more years of Hardy when I have confidence in Escobar, who I can get six years out of for around 10 million in all liklihood.
  17. Looks like the Indians have sent Carmona down to rookie ball to try and help him. Many advocate Parra being sent down to try and help him as well. Not sure either player is at the "need a change of scenery" yet, but I just thought the idea might be interesting. Is it a fair trade/gamble for both teams?
  18. I really don't get the hate on Escobar's batting abilities. He's hitting .296 in AAA as of today. He is getting lots of doubles. He has excellent speed. The guy is just about ready and will be an above average MLB shortstop. He might even be ready right now. I don't know as I have not see him play any AAA games this year. But I really struggle to have the worry some of you have of trading Hardy (and getting someone major league ready that would probably help us more) and plugging in Escobar. I would like to look up Hardy's minor league numbers vs. Escobar's and see where they stack up aside from home runs. I'd like to look at their averages, hits, stolen bases, doubles, etc.
  19. Does anyone think that we should try and trade Bill Hall to the Texas Rangers for Vincente Padilla? Is that a trade that makes sense salary wise for both teams?
  20. I am surprised this thread is not getting more play. Well.......I guess I am more surprised that we have not heard anything regarding us being interested in him. Seems like exactly what Doug would be looking for. One of the guys he formerly coveted, not going to cost much in terms of dealing talent, and a guy that can truly help our rotation (despite his scenario this year thus far). I still see Padilla, if healthy, as a guy that can be a #3 starter in this league. Truthfully, I'd have no problem trading Padilla and then standing pat roster wise this year and let the chips fall as they may. We keep our prospects and trading options for the off-season and just might have enough pitching to go very deep this season as well.
  21. I think we can convince Texas to take Hall for Padilla, and if so, we need to do that trade.
  22. I personally don't really see the need for DeRosa, while fully aware that he's versatile and a helpful bat. I think we are just fine in the IF. Maybe by taking DeRosa out of this deal, we could try and get just Lee for Parra and something slighltly lesser than Escobar.
  23. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&hl=265391&id=2824 Well, what do we think? Any salary we can send them that they'd realistically take? You always want to start at Billy Hall, then realize that isn't going to happen. Suppan has that extra year too, so I doubt that would work. Looper maybe, but that isn't really an upgrade for us then in all liklihood. Not sure we have a match for them unless they are willing to pay salary for us.
  24. I really hope he does not turn into another Glendon Rusch.
  25. Who would we replace him with? Swindle maybe? Dillard is starting now so I doubt he's an option. Riske is still hurt I am pretty sure. Chris Smith might be the best guy to bring up, but since he's not on the 40 man roster, I doubt that happens. I guess I'd have to say Swindle, and I'd be fine with that.
