  1. As far as extending Hart. I read somewhere this week (TH blog maybe) that he was offered one after Braun was extended but that he turned it down.
  2. My point of my topic starter, or at least after reading this thread, has more to do with this. I don't want the fact that attendance is up to mean that Doug is going to waste 15 million or so each off-season on guys that nobody else wants to prove to the casual fan that we have money and we will spend it. Nobody wanted these guys, we overpaid for each (that's why they signed here), and they are doing more harm than good imho (Cameron's defensive prowess aside).
  3. Between the two, I pick McClung hands down.
  4. I don't think it's an experiment. I think he's arguably our best leadoff hitter and clearly our best without Weeks here. I do prefer Weeks there fyi. The way Prince continues to swing and miss at the high fastball, is Hart really protecting Fielder enough batting fifth that we need to bat him there as opposed to leading off?
  5. I'm likely of no help, but our slow pitch softball pitcher always underhands it to first now because he has missed so badly on the overhand throw so many times. So he now underhands it on combackers and makes the play to first everytime. It must be something to do with having your arm do the same motion with the ball to the plate so many times that something different like a throw to first, though appearing to be routine, is really quite a challenge.
  6. Granted it was one year at 15 million, but man are Gagne and Cameron going to prove a big waste. The worst part is that our manager will continue to stick with them. Oh, how I wish we would have just had that 15 million back and not spent it than waste it on two guys that are going to continue to get chances over guys that would outperform them. With those two off the roster, I bet this team wins 10 more games this year at least then we would not give these two big contracts out and thus big time roles that they will continue to grossly underperform in. EDIT: Modified subject line. Please use more descriptive titles, avoiding the use of "teasers" - BtA
  7. Vent thread is going to be hot tonight. Yost goes with his worst pinch hitter and worst reliever in the biggest key spots of the game. Niiiiiiiicccccccccceee!!!!!!!!
  8. We'll stay away from him. I think Dillon would have a bigger role if Hall were traded for a minor leaguer or a pitcher. I think Doug is always looking for another pitcher but rarely for a position player during the season unless a major hole occurs for some reason (thinking of when we added Graffy and David Bell).
  9. John, with pitchers, you are correct. No patience with younger pitchers. With younger position players, I'd argue that we are too patient with them, even though I always thought/think guys like JJ/Rickie etc. would figure it out.
  10. Eh, I don't know if anyone can really complain. 1) People that complain about NBA and NFL drafts of their team likely have a 1% clue. People complaining about their team with the MLB draft have less than a 0% chance clue (if that were possible). If these mocks and player top 300 lists weren't out there by some website that knows less than the worst scouting team in the majors, nobody would be complaining. 2) People on this board really think they know better than Jack Z? About a MLB draft? Ludicrous to me. I am happy that Jack is ecstatic with the day he had.
  11. For us, given our scouting, 4-5. I'd expect about 3 starters, and 1 reliever or utility guy given that we have Jack Z.
  12. My bad, just saw Melville mocked at 19. My bad.
  13. I did not see Melville mocked in the first round by BA or ESPN today. Not saying we should buy what the media thinks, but also not sure why you think he was such a sure fire top half first rounder.
  14. Is there a decent chance that Hewitt falls to our comp pick. I know our scouting brass would have been fine with him in the middle of round one.
  15. Guys can someone please post the chat link?
  16. BA's final mock has every player slotted correct so far except for Castro. That's pretty darn good...
  17. Where is the chat link? Does anyone have it, I can't find it for some reason...
  18. I've seen many times in this thread that Bill Hall has publicly expressed "that he no longer wants to play here". Are we sure that this is the case? Might it be that he is not happy with his current playing time situation? I have a hard time believing Bill flat out does not want to play in Milwaukee anymore. I think most of us can agree he wants more playing time or a starting job everyday. Regardless of whether he deserves to play every day, for people booing him or thinking he should be booed because "he doesn't want to play in my city or for my team anymore", I think you are really misreading the situation and hope the very loud booing I heard last night was not an abundance of fans misreading the situation the way several posters in this thread appear to be.
  19. I hope I can get some responses on this so that I don't need to start a new thread. What about this for a proposal as a middle ground for Billy. 1) Compromise with him and have the platoon continue, but allow him to start once a week against a righty at either 2nd or SS. I know Craig would not have a problem with it, and I don't think JJ or Rickie would mind given the situation as well. 2) Billy can reasess things in the offseason. But I'd go to him with a proposal of having him be a supersub again next year and guarantee him 400 ab's. Counsell will be gone and he'd be very valuable in this role. Or, Billy can try and get traded at this point. But again, he'll likely be better able to assess his situation when the year is over and see if any team is going to give him full starter rights at just one position. But I'd have Ned and Co. guarantee him 400 ab's as a supersub and see what Billy thinks. Obviously if he picks things up against lefties in his limited opportunities or if Branyan begins to really struggle, there's always the chance he becomes the full starter at third again. But I think adding him against righties as a fill-in for Weeks or Hardy once a week might be a good compromise for this year if a trade appears unrealistic.
  20. Kendall's BA is basically .250 right now. Obviously, in a very small sample, Rivera is doing really well with the schtick. Is it time to maybe double Rivera's work load as we approach mid season, both to keep Kendall fresh and because basically every other team with a catcher of Kendall's ability plays a a bit less than Kendall?
  21. If this really deserves to get merged to the Hall trade thread, go ahead. I don't think it does though. Are we really going to be booing this guy until he's shipped out of town, or is it just going to be for today. Imho, Hall went about this wrong. But in about the last 3-4 years, you will not find one player who has done more of what the team asks for then Bill Hall. Yes, he's struggling. Yes, he's not playing for what his contract is. Yes, he's seemingly regressed some or at least not progressed. But it is very sad that fans were as loud booing him as I heard. There'll always be a few, but that was far too loud for what this man deserves.
  22. I realize there's a legit arguement that there is little difference between the two. Still, we have about five guys mashing there and Hammond hopefully ready to take the next step as well. I have to assume, that if these guys all stay in AA all year, that the front office is not planning on any of them helping the big league squad at least at the start of the year. Am I wrong here? Does anyone have a guess as to what Melvin and Co. are thinking the next 1-2 years will look for the progressions of LaPorta, Gamel, Escobar, Salome, Brantley, and Hammond?
  23. What do you think? Could help our bullpen and maybe be here a long time? http://my.journaltimes.com/post/talking-baseball-and-brewers/giants_making_taschner_available.html
  24. Ozzie wants to shake up his Sox lineup. Maybe getting Vazquez would really be possible...
