  1. yep. Betancourt almost cost the Brewers the game last night. Especially with Pujols due up and a RISP situation. We got lucky there. Dodged a bullet. Brewerfan.net would have exploded if Pujols had gotten a walk off hit there instead of popping up
  2. Bullpen was great tonight. These two teams look evenly matched until the late innings and then we have the better bullpen. That K-Rod trade made such a big difference in this season. Ironic that it was Casey & Yuni B who came through in the 10th for us
  3. Patterson looked like Pujols and Pujols looked like Patterson
  4. Marcum is one tough ballplayer. Easy to root for a guy like that
  5. Bases loaded for Braun in a "mini-slump". Time for the Slump Buster
  6. It will be interesting to see if Hart & McGehee are ready to go, and if they aren't if Jerry Hairston will remain the bench. The health of Corey Hart is a big factor in this series as it is a mega-huge drop-off from Hart to Kotsay and Roenicke doesn't seem to realize that Hairston is a much more valuable player than Kotsay This also plays into tonight's game with Molina out via suspension, as Hart is one of the few that can steal a base. I see Yadier Molina as an extremely valuable part of the Cardinals and it would be good to get a W tonight as Molina will be back tomorrow
  7. I continue to be thrilled that Greinke is a Brewer. He has nasty filthy stuff
  8. Baseballreference.com WAR stats
  9. I'd also be interested in finding out how Escobar's offensive WAR is better than Betancourt's. One guess might be the speed that Escobar brings to the table with stolen bases etc. Escobar has 15 stolen bases as compared to Betancourt's 4. Escobar has 5 triples as compared to Betancourt's 2. With that said, Escobar has a .610 OPS compared to Betancourt's .677. They both have poor OBP (.283 and .286). Is WAR based on League? i.e. is Escobar only compared to other AL SS's, or all of MLB? Not sure how Escobar's offensive WAR is 0.9 but Betancourt's is 0.4 ... I do get why Escobar has a 1.0 defensive WAR (honestly I thought it'd be higher) and Betancourt's is -0.4 (honestly I thought it'd be worse Because of Escobar's superior defense, I get why his overall WAR is higher than Yuni B's.
  10. Not sure who will win what or how many, but I do expect to see the benches clear at some point in the series
  11. I choose Zack Greinke. 365 days a year, no question
  12. I mentioned this in the In-Game thread but I'll repeat it here: While we are breaking down Yuni B and looking at sample sizes, it is worth noting that he has been better in the 2nd half of seasons in his career .280/.308/.419 than in the first half .262/.283/.369 ... Yuni B also has a career .287 BA and .781 OPS in August (625 plate appearances) and a career .274 BA, .700 OPS in Sept/Oct (644 plate appearances) So it is actually reasonable to assume that he will continue to at least hit better than he did in the 1st half. That in combination with Dale Sveum's coaching is what we are seeing
  13. I'm going to remember Carlos Lee the next time I get upset about Prince Hitter being such a poor Fielder
  14. 15. It certainly improves his overall value, yes. btw his defensive WAR is "only" at -0.4 ...
  16. That 6 year sample size was before the genius of Dale Sveum started to settle in
  17. Its still better than him saying "uh" once every 3-4 words like he used to
  18. Probably wouldn't want to mess with Greinke and give him 7 days rest but would it have been smart to start Estrada in this game and save Greinke for the Cardinals on Tuesday?
  19. I think at the very least Dale Sveum deserves a raise. And I stand corrected for criticizing Roenicke's lineup. The Astros are that bad.
  20. YunE making a late run at Prince and Braun for MVP honors Like that?
  21. That hit by Braun would've been a HR in Maryvale (thinking that many aspects of this game reminds me of a Spring Training game. I'm half expecting Eric Farris, Brendan Boggs and Martin Maldonado to make appearances in the late innings)
  22. Coshun is easily one of my least favorite announcers of all-time. At least he's worked very hard in order to eliminate saying "uh" every 3rd or 4th word like he used to...
