  1. The problem with Cabrera is that even though he's a switch-hitter, he's much more effective batting left vs rhp than batting right vs lhp. Not as good of a match for us...just a .686 career OPS as a right-handed batter
  2. I wonder if Marlon Byrd is a possibility at all? More of a natural CF than Beltran these days. Signed through 2012 but the Cubs may be looking to dump salary
  3. I am cautiously optimistic about Roenicke. I like the Morgan/Gomez platoon, I like moving Weeks to the 5 hole, I like the use of K-Rod & Axford. There have been some decisions that make no sense but so far I do like Ron Roenicke
  4. Morgan is playing the way I would expect him to play when used properly. He should never face (or almost never face) LHP. Hats off to Roenicke for using him correctly. Hopefully that will continue even though Gomez was injured
  5. An .821 OPS vs lhp is plenty good considering how great in the field Gomez is.... Morgan/Gomez as a platoon works very well... hopefully Carroll can be a solid platoon partner too
  6. Here is an interesting and timely article about Brett Carroll from 2 days ago, talking about his hopes to get back to MLB http://www.tennessean.com...urn-trip-MLB?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Sports|s
  7. I'm not at all convinced that Gindl can just come in and hit MLB pitching. He's only 22 and his OPS in AAA, while good at .828, does not scream "call me up" in the middle of a playoff race....I do like his career MiLB OBP of .373
  8. True, a right hand hitting real CF would make the most sense, moreso than Beltran
  9. With Gomez out for extended time, a trade for an OF is starting to make more sense
  10. Furcal is batting .167 this season in 108 AB's
  11. Watching him today on MLB Extra Innings, Dodgers-Giants game. He looks OK. Still not running at 100% but he looks pretty good at the plate, at least in terms of his approach/swing Jamey Carroll just got a hit a minute ago. How's that for a small sample update?
  12. Furcal has a bigger upside than Carroll but much more risk of being injured. A bigger roll of the dice. I prefer Carroll over Furcal for that reason alone
  13. I agree. However, this is a franchise that has started Mark Kotsay in CF multiple times. Nothing would shock me anymore
  14. hey John, you are right: I will leave out the adjectives from now on, and simply say that Betancourt's .262 OBP is unacceptable for a team in the playoff hunt. Also, his career .292 OBP in over 3300 Plate Appearances makes me doubt that he can get his OBP over .300 and a .300 OBP would also be unacceptable I would much prefer someone like Jamey Carroll who has consistently put up an OBP of .350 or better
  15. Hit major league pitching. Carroll's .277 career BA, .356 career OBP is much better than what Josh Wilson can produce. Wilson has a career .281 OBP in MLB. That is horrid
  16. Or, to put it another way: Beltran is a better player than every Outfielder on the Brewers not named Ryan Braun. Why wouldn't we need him? Ideally you get Beltran, start him in Center and Kotsay gets DFA'd.
  17. 1) They probably want to put Beltran in CF, at the very least replacing Gomez in the platoon as well as allowing them to start Morgan in right vs the tougher right-handers 2) As extra insurance in case Braun's injury lingers for a long time
  18. Jamey Carroll would be an enormous upgrade over Betancourt offensively. Carroll has a career .365 OBP (.360 this year)
  19. Their closer, Joel Hanrahan, is having an incredible year so far. 0.916 WHIP, 1.24 ERA, 28 saves.... he is 29 years old and his stats are way below his career norms
  20. Buster Posey, Albert Pujols, Neftali Feliz, Miguel Cabrera.... and Taylor Green? That's a stretch, don't you think?
  21. Again, Desmond has a .269 OBP this season. His career OBP in over 900 MLB at-bats is .295
  22. Can Beltran play SS? I think any way you can improve the team, you do it, especially in a "go for it" year...
