  1. Carroll has a much better OBP than the other possible replacements being discussed
  2. I cannot imagine that they actually plan on starting Wilson/Counsell/Farris at 2B the rest of the way. Having 3 sub .300 OBP players in the lineup vs rhp, along with a very streaky Corey Hart, and 4 sub .300 players in the lineup vs lhp (Brett Carroll) is just simply not what you want in a pennant race A trade will be made
  3. it should be Taylor Green it will be Counsell/Wilson until we get Jamey Carroll
  4. Green has played 25 games at 2B this season and is raking, he should get called up to start. Betancourt/McGehee are bad enough, Betancourt/McGehee with either Counsell or Wilson also starting is just brutal
  5. I'm a very hopeful that we'll never see Wil Nieves in a Brewers uniform again, and this certainly increases the likelihood of that!
  6. The Giants just beat us 2 out of 3 and Lincecum didn't pitch in that series. And now they are adding Beltran. I don't like the way we match up against the Giants unless we improve our roster fairly significantly
  7. I certainly don't see the Giants getting Beltran as "good", especially since we could be facing the Giants in the playoffs, that is "if" we make the playoffs
  8. Considering that we have a manager who will put Kotsay at CF, that is still an upgrade! Beltrans' deficiencies in CF plus Beltran's bat are still an upgrade over Brett Carroll or Mark Kotsay, right? We're talking about maybe 2 games a week. The rest of the time he'd be in RF
  9. I don't think Casey has been as brutal in the field as many here make him out to be. His hitting has been unbelievably bad and he has the speed of a backup catcher on the basepaths, but his fielding is probably only "average to below-average"
  10. RF vs rhp. CF vs lhp Corey Hart has a career .878 OPS vs lhp I don't see that getting Beltran is likely, but I think that'd be the plan and would be an upgrade, a significant upgrade for the Brewers. Beltran has a .903 OPS this season. His career OPS vs rhp is .846, vs lhp is .886
  11. The only problem I could foresee with Carroll would be that RR/DM would see him as depth and not a direct replacement for Betancourt. I don't want Yuni B ever starting for the Brewers again and instead he may still be starting a few games a week with Carroll starting 3
  12. Would like to see his OPS over 1.000 and his OBP well over .400 as I am hopeful that he will be someday be looked at as one of the all-time greats. I order to do that he needs to have several seasons with an OPS over 1.000 and he only has one so far in his career. Would also like to see him have over 40 HR's in a season but that is very unlikely this year
  13. All I know is that I cannot stand the strike zone graphic on ESPN broadcasts
  14. If this interview doesn't make you question Doug Melvin I don't know what might. (Confidence in Kotsay. Hoping to get Casey going. Sees Green & Gamel as nothing more than September callups. Not sure if Carroll or Barmes would be an upgrade) Wow http://www.jsonline.com/s...s/brewers/126151758.html Hopefully thats all just media speak as he tries to make deals. We'll know alot more about Melvin circa 2011 on August 1st
  15. McGehee's relatively strong enough April (.739 OPS, .278 BA) likely skewed Roenicke's thoughts into thinking "he'll come around". I have to think they are looking at trade options With Gamel getting reps at 3B in AAA it seems clear that the Brewers look at Gamel as being a better option than Green. We now have several pitchers hitting as well or almost as well as Casey. Can Narveson play 3B?
  16. Similar in what way? Gindl has a .842 OPS and a .366 OBP, Davis had a .948 OPS and a .415 OBP at Brevard County... fairly significant difference there When Gindl played at Brevard County he had an .822 OPS and a .363 OBP ... granted Gindl was only 20 at the time and Davis is 23, but I still see Davis as having significantly more potential than Gindl We'll see how well Davis hits in AA though
  17. They've got to do something. McGehee looks lost.
  18. In the last 28 days (22 games) Betancourt is batting .315 with a .777 OPS ...unfortunately he is still terrible at taking walks, as his OBP is only 10 points higher than his BA Do I think he's "turned the corner"? No . Do I think he should still be replaced? Yes, please. Just pointing out its been more than 7 days. In the last 7 days he's hitting .474 with a 1.342 OPS... even in the last 14 days he's hitting .367 with a 1.020 OPS !
  19. I really hope Davis isn't on Melvin's list! I'll be looking forward to seeing how well he hits at AA. This will be a good true test of his talent level. Hopefully he's raking in AAA in 2012 and starting in MLB in 2013 (Braun to 1B or RF, Hart traded)
  20. I don't put a ton of stock in AAA batting stats. Its true there are some great pitchers in AAA but you are also facing alot of Tim Dillard/Sean Green AAAA types there. Journeymen pitchers who aren't quite good enough to make an MLB roster but are organizational filler and backups "just in case". AA hitting stats are more telling and in AA Taylor Green hit .260 with a .773 OPS
  21. I read that alot on this forum. And that is the thing: we need him to be significantly better than McGehee. Not "a little better" or "not any worse". Casey has been one of the worst position players in MLB in 2011 (if not the worst). Obviously the Brewers don't think Green would be a big upgrade over Casey. They could be wrong about that. It also seems obvious that the Brewers seem to have more confidence in Gamel playing MLB 3B than Green. The Brewers look like they are either trying to trade for a 3B and/or will give Casey yet more time. If he continues to falter, it'll likely be Gamel replacing him
  22. Johnson would make alot of sense as a platoon partner for Morgan. Johnson's career stats vs LHP are excellent: .315 BA, .374 OBP (!) and a .843 OPS
  23. The next 3 games are against RHP. It'll be interesting to see if Carroll gets the start on Sunday vs LHP Madison Bumgarner
  24. Well we now need more than just a backup OF. We need a platoon partner for Morgan. Morgan simply cannot hit LHP
