  1. I'm not a Bud Selig fan, at all. However, if in his last days he can at least convince the University of Wisconsin to once again have a baseball team I might be able to at least look at the Selig statue outside of Miller Park as opposed to averting my eyes and pretending it doesn't exist. While many will always love Selig for bring baseball back to Milwaukee, and he certainly deserves full credit for that, I cannot stand the way the Selig family used the Brewers as essentially a tax write-off for a few decades. And then there is what I consider his horrendous track record as the Commisioner: looking the other way during the Steroid Scandals, making the All-Star game decide home field in the World Series and all sorts of other annoyances and idiocies
  2. Well now thats all well & good, however after having zero statistical evidence in front of me regarding the Brewers post-season defense and instead relying completely on my own eyes as an amateur observer, it still seems obvious that Melvin underestimated the importance of defense in 2011, which makes his comments completely absurd
  3. Wow, not that is a real shocking statement considering the source. And I thought Melvin considered defense a huge importance.
  4. I hope you are right. Didn't he trade for Hairston after Weeks went down? Weren't there quotes by Melvin around the trade deadline in support of Yuni? (could've just been PR/blowing smoke/trying to drive down trade value for SS's at the time). The Cardinals didn't give up a whole lot for Furcal as I recall. Its might've been arguable that the team that ended up getting Furcal was the difference in the NLCS, but the Brewers pitching failing to step up negates that... I think Melvin did a great job putting together this '11 team, and for the most part the '08 team too... I just don't see major overhauls like some are suggesting and I think he has a track record of a blind spot for over the hill outfielders and relief pitchers (read: gritty veterans), and I think he greatly overvalues Yuni B (and Kotsay, and Loe, and Hawkins)
  5. The Brewers don't have much of a history of selling high under Melvin (see Hardy JJ or McGehee or Bill Hall). They'll keep him. And I predict he'll regress a little and his antics won't be quite so "cool" with a .270 BA and average fielding
  6. I just don't see the Brewers being able to hang in the Reyes sweepstakes. He's asking for Fielder $$$. If the Brewers were going to go there, they'd just sign Prince
  7. I was going to add: I think the most significant thing the Brewers will do this off-season is sign Greinke longterm (which I'm all in favor of) and make at least a few passive attempts to sign Fielder.
  8. Come on people this is Doug Melvin we're talking about. He probably doesn't see Yuni B as a problem. He will likely find another aged OF to replace Kotsay and will concentrate mostly on 1B or RF depending on what they do with Hart (but Hart says he doesn't want to play 1B apparently). He'll look for more aged relief pitchers to replace Saito/Hawkins. Loe will get slotted in as a late inning reliever again with quotes about "liking his toughness". They will look to Rickie Weeks to bat clean-up...
  9. Adam Dunnkinda seems like the type of move Doug Melvin might make...somehow I wouldn't be surprised to see Dunn hit 35 HR's for an NL team next year either...but he's a big risk. He had a stunningly bad year in 2011
  10. I have a much bigger problem with a guy who turns a $100 million contract batting .192 career in the postseason than I do with whether or not he laughs and when
  11. Doubtful as a major injury in 2012 would cost Fielder $100 million or more...not gonna happen
  12. If signing Fielder means we can no longer afford Mark Kotsay I'm all for it (!) I'm not impressed at all with Fielder's defense, baserunning or his postseason career .192 batting average That said, resigning Fielder gives us the best chance to get right back into the NLCS in 2012
  13. Funny? It was bush league. Almost as bush league as having a wild-card pennant up at the stadium. Opposing fans laugh at that kind of stuff
  14. it was a great season and I'm proud of how far they went and optimistic for the future...ultimately pitching or the lack there of did the Brewers in. Again. Hot Stove time!
  15. It ain't over yet folks... I don't hear any fat ladies singin'
  16. And along those lines, it would be wonderful to actually see 2 relief pitchers warming up at one time (!). That way if one relief pitcher doesn't "have it" we're not stuck with him for several batters until the next guy gets warmed up. There have been very few times this season or postseason where Roenicke has had 2 guys warming up at once. I think if Marcum falters much at all it'll be Narveson brought in to pitch 2-3 innings to get to the Hawkins-Saito-KRod-Axford 6-7-8-9
  17. I would say that Morgan is a below average fielding CF, too. Hairston is usually pretty sure handed. I'd say he's an average fielding 3B. Lucroy is maybe average, maybe not...
  18. Go Brewers!!!! Back on the day when the Brewers traded for Greinke, and my kid and I were jumping around the living screaming and cheering, THIS is the moment we were dreaming of!!!!
  19. Roenicke drives me crazy sometimes but the guy has us within 2 wins of a World Series so I just plain gotta respect him...
  20. I'm completely convinced that my kid's Little League manager wouldn't have started Kotsay in CF in a playoff game I also do not believe that there is any other MLB manager who would start Kotsay in CF in a playoff game
  21. Sure, because its only been 29 years since we've been in a League Championship Series. Yep, no big deal. Its not Ron Roenicke's fault. I'm quite sure there are other MLB managers who would start Mark Kotsay in a playoff game in CF. Yep...
  22. I put that loss completely on Ron Roenicke. If you have a hunch that Kotsay is gonna hit well then you sit Hart and put Kotsay in RF, but his horrible defense in CF cost us at least 2 outs in the 1st inning, at least 2 to 4 runs and was the difference. Abysmal managing by Roenicke tonight
  23. OK.? I'm psyched up for tonight's game now!? Thanks you for that.? Go Brewers!!!!
