  1. Playoffs?! Playoffs?! First lets see if we can win a Series at home vs the Cardinals with Roenicke starting a questionable lineup yet again
  2. I sure hope Furcal is going to strugle, because if he returns to his old form, the Cardinals then have 5 legit All-Stars in Furcal, Pujols, Holliday, Berkman & Molina to the Brewers (at present) 2 in Braun & Fielder
  3. I'm not entirely sure that Melvin was incorrect in saying that K-Rod filled their biggest need. Casey & Yuni had abysmal 1st halves, however the bullpen was a complete mess, and RR's insistence on using Loe in the 8th inning day in and day out cost the Brewers how many games? Now I suppose you could say that the biggest need then was a manager who understood bullpen use, and to a lesser extent a GM who understood OBP & OPS, but outside of firing both Roenicke and himself, Melvin's pick up of K-Rod really transformed our bullpen and made a huge weakness now a strength
  4. And the mighty Rafael Furcal, for at least 1/3 to 2/3 of the remaining season, depending on injuries, slumps, the cycles of the moon and whatever else rules Furcal's inconsistent career path
  5. I'd have to really think about that one. I suppose there are quite a few poor fielding 1B's in MLB
  6. With all due respect (you are one of my favorite posters here) I cannot wrap my mind around Fielder being better than Yuni in the field. Fielder, I think, is the worst defensive player on the team and one of the worst in the division (Carlos Lee comes to mind as someone worse)
  7. I'm more disappointed in the Brewers being unwilling to DFA Craig Counsell and their being willing to start Mark Kotsay of all people in CF, than I am in the Deadline moves K-Rod, Hairston Jr and Lopez are additions that improved the team
  8. Ha! Barmes just illustrating why Barmes > Betancourt
  9. The Brewers will be OK. And the Brewers will have Yuni B. I don't want him to be our starting SS but like it or not it looks like he'll be in there day in and day out so I'll root for him
  10. but he is a gamer & a fighter & a hard worker and veteran presence with true grit
  11. There aren't enough words in the English language to describe how much I do not want Giambi to be a Brewer I suppose I am extremely jaded by Giambi being a juicer or former juicer or whatever. And a former Yankee juicer. I know, its not logical
  12. Had a chance to go to today's game. Very happy to be sitting at home and will watch it on TV. That lineup is not worth paying money to see
  13. Unfortunately, that is a huge "if" Trying not to over-react this morning to Hairston sitting on the bench while Counsell, Lopez and Betancourt start
  14. At the very least Hairston Jr will start in CF vs lhp and he's a better player than Lopez, so he should start at 2B vs rhp ... his career .327 OBP vs rhp is not earth shattering but it is better than what we currently have in Counsell/Wilson/Lopez Would prefer they send down Wilson or DFA Counsell and keep Carroll and his defensive abilities
  15. They cannot be done. Standing pat could likely lead to not making the playoffs. If they are going to stand pat they might as well trade Prince & K-Rod and get some good players for next season
  16. 2 HR's and a double last night, his BA now over .330 (OPS at .994!) . How much hotter does this kid need to get before he gets brought up?
  17. Is this purely a smokescreen? Trying to drive down the asking price before the deadline? We're going to try to "mix & match with what we have" at 2B? I have to seriously doubt that http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/126348613.html
  18. Would like to see Farris used, at the very least, as a pinch-runner today
  19. I've been thinking that Furcal would be a likely SS upgrade at the trade deadline ever since April, and unfortunately I'm not shocked that Rickie Weeks is injured, but Felipe Lopez? Nope didn't see that one coming Honestly though I'd rather see Jamey Carroll than Furcal. Furcal is too much of an injury risk
  20. Furcal is starting to hit like Furcal in the last 6 games with a .318 BA and .444 OBP, and a .347 OBP in the last 12 games, (49 plate appearances)
  21. Extremely small sample but Furcal is starting to hit like Furcal in the last 6 games with a .318 BA and .444 OBP But Furcal is strictly a SS. Who is going to play 2B?
  22. Lopez has been hitting .305 with a .357 OPB and a .831 OPS for Durham in AAA this year. He is 31 years old He is hitting .216 in about 100 AB's in MLB in 2011 with a .248 OBP, and he hit .233 with a .311 OBP in MLB in MLB in 2010 He is definitely an upgrade over Counsell & Farris ...
  23. and sadly, even Bill Hall would be an upgrade over Craig Counsell right now
