  1. This is sort of like watching one of those Spring Training Split Squad games. If I didn't know better I'd be wondering how the other Brewers squad with most of the real starters is doing today...
  2. Rock is the ultimate homer, especially for catchers. Remember back when he said Estrada had a "good strong arm"?
  3. I wonder if this lineup could beat the Astros (and I mean even if Wolf only gave up 4 runs)
  4. Fans getting ugly at Miller Park this game is what one might call a "statistical correction" to Wolf's ERA
  5. Wilson with a fly ball that would've been a HR back in the Geoff Jenkins juicing days (did I say that?)
  6. Doug Melvin is who boggles my mind. Betancourt had a .288 OBP last season, and yet Melvin thought he'd be OK as a starter because he hit 16 HR's...
  7. Betancourt with a .263 OBP and yet he continues to get starts, day after day...
  8. Betancourt really is one of the worst hitters in MLB isn't he? Certainly among starters. Just a brutal approach at the plate
  9. We're just a grand slam away from tying this baby up. (Wonder if we can have Marcum pinch-hit for Betancourt or Wilson?)
  10. At least back in the Ned Yost years you could watch Dracula pitch every 5 years or play drinking games betting how many minutes it would be in between pitches by Doug Davis
  11. Good thing we have a ton of offensive firepower in order to withstand a subpar start of a game by Wolf
  12. with those new shoes Betancourt is no longer the worst player in MLB
  13. Now watch, Wilson will probably go 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's
  14. how fast can Boggs fly to Milwaukee from Nashville?
  15. Actually, now that I looked at Wilson's splits, it is a strange move. Wilson is hitting only .212 in his career vs LHP. Might as well roll the dice with Morgan, at least Morgan can field
  16. Josh Wilson starting in the OF is, again, a product of Doug Melvin's doing. Morgan is a career .201 hitter vs LHP. Kotsay is horrible. At least Wilson can field better than Kotsay..
  17. The 5-6-7 hitters of Betancourt, McGehee and Wilson just might be the worst 5-6-7 I've ever seen on the Brewers. Wow.
  18. Gamel has played every game at 1B in AAA this year. Lawrie is a much much better prospect then Green. If your point is that Doug Melvin et al completely screwed up their assessment of a position for Lawrie, I agree. I like Marcum, alot. He's the kind of player that is easy to root for. As Ned Yost used to say, "he's a fighter, a hard worker..." (what was the rest? Can't believe I forgot my favorite Ned Yost quote!). Without Marcum I don't think the Brewers would have a chance to make the playoffs this year. All that said, they did give up one helluva lot for 2 years of Marcum
  19. I really don't know that the Brewers would be wise to trade very many more prospects at this time. I certainly wouldn't want them to trade Gamel. And I don't think the Brewers really even have that many prospects that they could trade anyways. Just hypothetically if they went completely all in and traded for Reyes and Heath Bell, would that make them favorites to win the World Series? Maybe, maybe not, really depends on many factors. Greinke, Marcum & Gallardo could potentially stand up to the Phillies pitching but so far this season they haven't. As others have said, the best moves would be to DFA Kotsay & Betancourt and find a replacement or platoon partner for McGehee (I would prefer Gamel over Green).
  20. Brett Lawrie is batting .354 with a 1.092 OPS and 15 HR's in 223 AB's with Las Vegas in AAA ball, and he has started every game at 3B.
  21. Because he's been playing as much as he has, its a pretty big concern. An outfielder with a .642 OPS, almost no power, almost no range, and almost no speed is a pretty big concern if he ever gets to start
  22. I think most of the focus should be on the reality that we're dealing with a small sample size. It has been 12 games. Just 12 games Greinke's career ERA is 3.92 with a 1.263 WHIP. Maybe that is all he'll ever be. Interestingly enough, the pitcher he's most similar to, according to BaseballReference.com, through age 26 is Ben Sheets. Sheets has a 3.79 career ERA and a 1.216 WHIP
  23. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/124970959.html Gamel is on the bench today. I can see that as a good thing, having either Casey or Mat on the bench on a given day definitely improves our depth. Strange lineup though
  24. Again, I will say that alot of this is related to the personnel that Melvin has given him.... There are quite a few players throughout MLB who have struggled, like Casey, in the 1st half, Uggla chief among them. Casey has put up a .800+ OPS 2 straight years, they are going to give him plenty of time to figure it out. No GM in baseball would DFA him at this point. OK, the 5 hole, who else are you going to put there? Corey Hart is the logical choice against rhp, I see that, but Corey was very inconsistent in parts of this year. The Kotsay thing I don't get. But again, Kotsay is who Melvin gave him. Same with Nieves. Kottaras, we all like him because he can hit, but every other MLB manager likes him too, because they know they can run on him and can count on him X amount of passed balls per game (there's a stat for you!) Lucroy in the 8 hole. If the bottom of Roenicke's order isn't somewhat balanced, we get 2 outs in 4 or 5 pitches with Betancourt & the pitcher. Or vs lhp 3 outs in 6 or 7 pitches with Betancourt, Gomez & the pitcher. (possibly the most brutal 7, 8, 9 in baseball)... the bullpen, other than Axford, is filled with guys who have very questionable talent levels or are way over the hill. I put that on Melvin, not Roenicke. Joe Torre or Casey Stengall couldn't work magic with that bullpen We expect alot because of the talent the Brewers have but they have a ton of holes too.
  25. I, personally, like Roenicke alot. But I think its been way too small of a sample to really know just how good of a manager he is. I think alot of the complaints about Roenicke in this thread really should be directed at Doug Melvin. Roenicke's hands are tied somewhat by the talent he has to work with: I mean, seriously, Kotsay vs Boggs vs Katin or whoever. Those are not exactly great choices. Betancourt vs Josh Wilson? C'mon now. Nieves as a backup Catcher? I realize that Roenicke had somewhat of a hand in signing off on some of this stuff but this Brewers roster is like swiss cheese in a lot of ways
