  1. vs RHP: Morgan Hart Braun Fielder Weeks Gamel Lucroy Shortstop Pitcher vs LHP Weeks Hart Braun Fielder Gamel Lucroy Shortstop Pitcher Gomez Upgrading theShortstop position is of utmost importance...if only Gomez could get on-base enough to lead-off, I'd like to see Weeks all the time in the #5 spot protecting Fielder
  2. Love it Absolutely. I'd sell it to the highest bidder
  3. I am never or would never be happy for the Pirates. They are our opponents I do think Pirates fans are very cool and I think Pittsburgh is a great city, but I would prefer if the Pirates went 40-120 ... I do root for them vs the Cubs though
  4. Or even a broken clock is right twice a day! Actually I prefer to think of it as Roenicke is gaining experience and getting smarter/better
  5. Kotsay. I have optimism about RR (somehow) Nice bomb by Weeks
  6. Unfortunately you are probably right. Hopefully he won't be back next year!
  7. "Can we stop the "Prince is actually a pretty good defensive firstbaseman" talk from the likes of Schroeder and many in the national media now?" No, we cannot unfortunately. He just might be the worst named athlete in history. Or at least the most ironically named athlete. It'd be like if Brett Favre was named "Brett Clutch" or if Pete Rose was named "Pete Lackadaisical" Prince Hitter. Thats what we call him in our house
  8. Kotsay is not the best option for the 5 hole. Kotsay is the best option to be DFA'ed. Just about everyone on both the Brewers and Sounds roster other than Wilson, Counsell & Betancourt is a better option for the 5 hole. I'd rather see Kottaras in the 5 hole and making his career OF debut than Kotsay. I'd rather bring Khris Davis up from A+ ball to hit in the 5 hole than Kotsay.
  9. Good point. And with Reyes now on the DL, the price for SS just got higher
  10. Kotsay batting 5th and Yuni B is just brutal. I was a very big Roenicke fan, but I'm starting to waver (waiver?)
  11. Casey would need to bat .333 in the 2nd half to finish with a .278 BA ... and he needs to bat .400 in the 2nd half to finish with a .310 BA !
  12. Casey's stats right now are truly brutal. And strangely enough he's hitting even worse vs lhp than rhp. A .355 OPS vs lhp this season in 80 some at bats (small sample but still...) I think unless he rakes against the Reds this weekend they'll give Gamel and/or Green more starts
  13. Dobbs is 32 years old, and while he is having a good year so far this year, he was pretty horrible in 2009 & 2010 with sub .300 OBP seasons. He's walking more this year, but his SLG % hasn't been above .400 since 2008. His career OBP vs rhp is just .315 ... I see him as nothing special. He'd certainly be an upgrade over Counsell or Wilson though
  14. A small market team cannot, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, we'll see how it turns out) just give up on a player like Casey McGehee. And Counsell/Wilson are absolutely horrible hitters and not anything close to a solution. If Casey continues to struggle, then by all means give Green or Gamel some starts but they have to continue to let McGehee try to figure it out. The Brewers don't have the resources to upgrade 3B when they already have to upgrade SS and the bullpen, plus have a new 1B next season. Green is hitting well in AAA but that doesn't mean he will succeed at the MLB level. Its worth giving him a shot if Casey continues to struggle but Casey, unless he just completely continues to fail, needs to be a big part of the 2011 and likely the 2012 Brewers I've always said though, that it'd be a great sign if Casey was the utility guy, as that would mean there'd be a better player at 3B. Casey as a backup 3B/2B/OF and right handed pinch hitter would be a valuable part of a team
  15. There is no way to sugarcoat this: a .280 OBP is absolutely horrible. I'm not singling anyone out, but anyone who doesn't understand that, simply doesn't understand baseball
  16. Gallardo with his ERA now at 3.76 very close to his career average of 3.72
  17. You cannot replace Prince, he's a likely future Hall of Fame player, but it should be fairly easy to find a 1B who can hit 25-30 HR's. You could do it in house with Gamel or Hart (and sign a free agent corner outfielder) you could sign a free agent 1B. They should have plenty of money to play with, with Prince's salary off the books. The point being, no you cannot replace a Prince but next year the 5 spot doesn't need to be a black hole like it is today with Kotsay just because Prince is gone.
  18. A .647 OPS never looks good in the 5 hole, under any circumstances. If I was Kirk Gibson I'd tell my pitcher to not throw Prince a single strike all game
  19. Its relatively easy to find a 1B who can hit 25-30 HR's a year. Sign one of those and put Gamel at 3B and McGehee as a utility guy and the offense should be strong....maybe move Weeks to the middle of the order
  20. Most of this season, we haven't had Saito or Hawkins, and again I put that on Melvin and his repetitive nature of relying on over-the-hill relief pitchers. It is no shock that Saito & Hawkins have spent much of the season the DL so far. Braddock's stint on the DL, that one you couldn't really see coming. So when you rely on over-the-hill guys, you end up in a situation where a guy like Loe, who should be a right hand specialist, becomes the 8th inning set-up guy by default. And the wheels come off the bus and the manager gets blamed. But really it is the GM's fault
  21. Honestly, and I know I'm not the first person to write this, but at this point the best thing Doug Melvin can do to help the Brewers is fire Gord Ash and then fire himself (i.e. resign). I add the "fire Gord Ash" part so as to guarantee that there would be a complete change at the top, as Ash might likely make similar decisions as Melvin You trade away 6 years of Lawrie, 4-5 years of Alcides Escobar, Odorizzi, Jeffress, 5-6 years of Lo Cain, all of that talent for Marcum & Greinke. OK, fine, but then you are going all in, you don't fill out the rest of the roster with Betancourt, Kotsay & Nieves, & Josh Wilson and a 41 year old Counsell, and a bullpen based on a wish and a prayer that a 41 year old Saito still has it and a bunch of other retreads and hopefuls.....
  22. see that look on Braun's face?. The guy hates to lose. Its so good having him on the Brewers long-term
  23. I was wondering if maybe the Nashville Sounds could beat this lineup
  24. "Betancourt on the first pitch, bounces out to short to end the inning..." It is deja vu all over again Maybe the Royals said "we won't give you Greinke unless you take Betancourt" Maybe Doug Melvin should attend "Gamblers Anonymous"
