  1. I actually think Braun would be a very solid 1B. His problem at 3B was throwing errors moreso than fielding grounders
  2. I think there is a much bigger chance of moving Weeks to 1B eventually than SS
  3. Weeks seems like a stronger candidate to bat clean-up, to me, than Hart
  4. $200 million is crazy money for a Designated Hitter type who tends to display greatness only every other year and is due for a down year in 2012. Can you say 29 HR's and a .276 batting average? I know you can...
  5. Good point. I would still watch MLB. It is my favorite sport. But I sure would grump and groan about it and I would really miss all the strategy of NL baseball as it currently stands
  6. Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist. But I do not see any way that this would be a positive change. Change just for change sake isn't usually good. This would change MLB is pretty dramatic ways by increasing interleague in a huge way. And I think it will lead to bringing a DH to the NL which I am adamantly opposed to. As it is the NL teams would be at a distinct disadvantage having to play so many more games using a DH Astros fans are also almost unanimously angered by this proposal. Houston has always been an NL team, why should they just all of a sudden become an AL team?. It is messing too much with the traditions of baseball, and the traditions are what sets MLB apart from the NBA & NFL
  7. The concept of having an interleague game every day is yet another example of why Bud Selig is absolutely horrible for MLB
  8. Is Hairston a possibility as the starting SS and not merely a backup guy? I will miss Counsell but the time has come for him to move on. He was one of my favorite players but in no way am I advocating that he be resigned as a player. I could see Craig Counsell becoming the manager of the Brewers somewhere around 2019 or so
  9. I am absolutely thrilled that Kotsay will not be a Brewer in 2012. Thank you thank you thank you
  10. That is exactly what I was saying. Any GM in baseball would love to trade away a Headley type and get back top pitching prospects. I'm not advocating the Brewers trading away pitching
  11. That would be very risky for a guy who turns 34 next summer. He put up a .871 OPS in 2011 but in 2010 he hit just .241 with only a .294 OPS, and he missed significant time due to injuries in both '10 and '09. He's earned about $15 million a year during the last 4 seasons and if seeking similar money would arguably not be worth it. Apparently he really loves living in Chicago and Milwaukee might seem "doable" in terms of an easy commute while keeping family in Chicago. He'd certainly be a huge upgrade over Green/McGehee but by no means would it be a great slam-dunk signing. Its a roll of the dice I believe Melvin was doing his "due diligence" but probably sees Aramis as asking for too much over too many years I suppose it depends on how "all in" we are going to be in 2012
  12. It is looking more and more mathematically impossible for the Brewers to sign Fielder unless they trade away a few other players with big contracts http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/133776518.html
  13. Mark Reynolds is a more intriguing option, to me, because of his power numbers. I could see trading Narveson for him... Reynolds isn't much of a defensive player though. But I think Reynolds would go a long ways towards replacing Prince Fielder in ways that Gamel couldn't
  14. I would think it would take 3 seconds to get a GM to trade Headley for Thornburg or Peralta but no way do I give up a huge piece of our pitching future for just about any 3B not named David Wright! We need more pitching, not less As far as Headley. Sure I'd love to add him but as was mentioned it wouldn't really be a wise move salary cap wise, we need to utlize the minimum salary guys and if we spend bigger money it should be on players like Greinke or Fielder or a big free agent like a Reyes type
  15. I strongly agree with that. OBP is a very important stat and the low OBP guys like Betancourt become a huge detriment in a lineup. You see this day to day if you pay attention. Rally killers like Betancourt becoming a road-block to keeping an inning going at the bottom of the order. One thing I noticed in that road trip to Boston & New York is how many of the Red Sox & Yankees worked the count and made it tough on Brewers pitchers. Getting walks and working the pitch count adds up to more runs as well as getting a starter out of the game after 5 or 6 innings. There were way too many times last year where Brewers like Yuni B or Gomez were swinging at the first pitch
  16. I think the only way the Brewers will have a chance at Fielder is if Miami signs Pujols. Because if Miami doesn't get Pujols, then, as the poster above this says, then they will go after Fielder hard and overpay for him.
  17. I believe the Brewers are counting on pitchers Wily Peralta & Tyler Thornburg in 2013 and one or more of Jorge Lopez, Jed Bradley, and Taylor Jungmann in 2014 to greatly help the pitching staff. Gallardo will still be a Brewer during those years. If Wolf, Greinke,& Marcum are all off the books in 2013, the Brewers will certainly have some money to spend. I do think they will try to sign Greinke to an extension. With Braun, Weeks, Lucroy, Morgan/Gomez, Hart, Gallardo plus Gamel & Green all there in 2013, the Brewers will have no need to completely rebuild. Caleb Gindl could end up being a big plus too Wise moves to reload will be needed, of course, but I see no need for a major rebuild
  18. Gindl, Gamel, and Schaeffer though do fit that bill. I certainly don't see Lo Cain as being a significantly better prospect than Schaeffer. Personally I wouldn't trade Gindl or Gamel and I'm not all that interested in Jurggens anyways
  19. Prince Fielder (hey somebody had to say it)
  20. I'm not entirely convinced of that. The fans spend their own money on the team. The ownership invests their money in the team and makes a profit. Now if the owner started spending an equal percentage of his own personal money on building a winner as a fan does of their money on season tickets, cable TV and merchandise, then OK I'd buy that statement Mark's got millions & millions of dollar in his own bank accounts and investments. If he really wanted a Champion, he could spend some of that and increase the payroll and resign Prince AND sign Reyes. A fanatic would do it in a heartbeat if they had the disposable income. I would
  21. His career BA is .268 and his career Slugging % is .391 in over 3600 plate appearances in 7 seasons, so, sure those numbers aren't unrealistic. His horrible OBP and defensive weaknesses make him a terrible choice for any team however. At any place in the lineup, a sub .300 OBP is a huge liability and often a rally killer
  22. Going out on top. This year was pretty much the greatest job of managing a baseball team by him that anyone could do, there is no way to improve on that. Plus he's 67 years old
  23. http://korkedbats.com/2011/07/12/look-alikes-74/ Vince Gill/Lance Berkman
  24. Ever noticed how much Lance Berkman looks like Vince Gill? (the Country music singer/guitarist)
