For anyone interested I found a bunch of DSL Brewer photo albums. Sadly the names are ot listed so hard to tell who is who but still nice to actually see some of the kids. Arcia is extremely thin, hope he can fill out half as well as his brother. Think he just needs to get on a weight program (many of these kids never had access to weight training) Albums containing Brewers http://www.dominicansumme...w=wrapper&Itemid=122 http://www.dominicansumme...w=wrapper&Itemid=122 http://www.dominicansumme...w=wrapper&Itemid=122 All-Star Game(Arcia, Rizzo, Nester Corredor) http://www.dominicansumme...w=wrapper&Itemid=122 2010 pictureshttp://www.dominicansummerleague.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=122

Narv to bullpen, Marco in rotation?
YoungGeezy replied to bcvilly24's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
For Peralta, I can deal with (actually would love but doubt will happen) but for Estrada nooooooo. Guy is not that good. -
To me, I don't care what BA or anyone else ranks our system. Honestly it doesn't matter. There are plenty of players who never get the big time attention in the minors and end up having outstanding careers. There are plenty of can't miss, next big thing top prospects who really amount to nothing...at all. Gindl is what, 22? Hard to say his ceiling is a #4 OF when he is the same age as many of our prospects in Helena, Wisconsin, BC, and Hunsville. You draft a 22 year old you expect them to continue to grow as a prospect and player. That expectation doesn't go away just because the 22/23 year old is AAA already. The guy is solid as a rock. Power potential usually doesn't max out until around 28-30. That doesn't change because of his height.

People always like to overreact in general. It is much easier to be an extremely negitive, glass half empty, doomsday thinker. I mean geez, this is a very minor violation. Yes, still a violation but people make seem like Rogers is a steroid loving, drugged up junkie, who has done everything in his power to throw his life down the drain. That is nowhere near the case. All the guy has done is battle and battle. To me the guy has heart and courage up the wazzu along with still having a huge arm. A few "stimulant" violations isn't going to deter that in my eyes. Someone mentioned him having the talent and opportunity that most of use would die for (or something along those lines) well I think he also has the determination, courage, and heart most of use would die for. Major injury, battles back, another major injury battles back, now this....I bet I can tell you he is going to battle back again. 7 hard years but he hasn't given up.

How about not judging him as a person without knowing jack about him or his situation? Calling him a bust seems fair. I wouldn't yet; less than a year ago he was looking like a possible contributor on the ML team. Calling him a loser is over the line in my opinion. It is absolutely fair to judge him and his situation. He is a public figure in the Milwaukee Brewers system. We aren't talking about his mom, wife, or kids. 7 years, a bunch of injuries, and 2 suspensions? He might not be a "loser," but he is incredibly stupid and is pissing away the talent and opportunities that everyone on this board would do just about anything to have. Yup..... Guy must be an idiot to have had two Tommy John Surgries and this carpal tunnel issue. He must be actively trying to have these issues to piss away his career... Suspension could have been avoided but I wouldn't say they have helped him throw away his career. Injuries are by far his biggest issue and really that is just bad luck. They happen, we have lost two Ace type pitchers in the lase decade due to issues like this in Nuegy and Jones. Do we blame them that there body just couldn't hold up? It's tuff luck. Jeffress's Suspension were impactful, Roger's haven't been. This one is very minor. More along the line of Kevin and Pat Williams water diet pill suspension because 1 of the 40 stimulants in it happen to be illegal
-
Lol, sure enough as soon as there is a suspension here comes Jackalope to be one of the first pounding down the door to toss the kid. Huge surprise. One its not drugs, two it is not steroids or HGH. It very well could have been a perscription drug, it very well could have been an everyday GNC product ( over half the stuff in GNC has at least one illegal stimulant in it). Sure there is ways to check what is or is not legal but if the guy isn't using hard drugs or PED's im not going to sweat it. Nor will I go with the people who once again want to throw away another huge power arm. You know cause we have soooo many laying around in our system..... The suspension will end up being like 9 games if I understand it right....big deal. I will continue to root for Rogers. He has battled his behind off. We got to see last season what the kid can really offer if he gets healthy. Biggest thing is GET HIM OUT OF THE ROTATION!!!! Give it up, put him in the pen and let him just let it go for 1 maybe two innings a game. I personally like back end guys who will light up radar at 96-99 with pretty good off-speed stuff. Control is an issue but bullpen is were he needs to be. Brewers never understand this (except with Braddock).

Link Report for Wed. 8/17 -- Peralta and Ross dazzle
YoungGeezy replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Folks need to be reminded at what the still 17-year-old Gian Rizzo has done this year. His last ten appearances represent his ten starts after three relief appearances to start the year, and he vanquished the Cardinal squad that handed him his one and only clunker on July 27th. The two 2010 DSL pitchers who jumped to Maryvale this season were 22-year-old lefty Manny Ruiz (nice numbers outside the walks) and 19-year-old Jeffrey Saba (finding too much of the plate). Should they choose to move him state-side, Rizzo would be a pitcher with both age on his side and the numbers to really intrigue next season in Maryvale. It's been a while since the Brewers had a 19-year-old "wunderkid" in full-season ball -- Rizzo in Wisconsin in 2013 would fit that bill nicely. Would be nice but my guess is he will spend a full year at each level (12' Arizona, 13' Helena.) Brewers are not big on young pitchers moving fast past rookie ball. They even forced Odorizzi to stick out two full seasons. Once they get past full year in A ball and have three full years under their belt is usually when Crew will start pushing them up the levels. Never know though. -
Link Report for Wed. 8/17 -- Peralta and Ross dazzle
YoungGeezy replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Not sure if I missed it but Toby, where was Peralta's Fastball sitting tonight? With him I've heard it range from 92-98. When I saw him at the future stars game he was hitting 93-94 pretty consistant. Hard to believe if he is up to hitting 95-98 that he will not be able to blow people away with a high fastball. I guess it depends on how well the secondary stuff sets it up...aka Axford 96-98mph is deadly because curveball will kill ya. -

Yup I can see why Brewers felt Peralta wasnt good enough for a spot start.... -
Mechanics are not good , at all. Arm and body are not lose, doesn't use lower body well, very jerky and violent with delievery. People keep saying they hope he starts in AA or whatever but he has a lot of work to do to fix some of these issues. Bradley is much more smooth and natural in my opinion. If he was to use his long body properly or learn to use his legs he could easily sit in the 94-97 range instead of the 90-93 but he is all arm. His command would also be better and more consistant.

Why rush them? Both should start out in Wisconsin and not be brought up unless they have performed and earned it. Yes both are high picks, both are guys who SHOULD move quickly but I much prefer they earn there way up like Braun, Weeks, Gallardo, and not just given high starting level, and promotions because of pick number. Both have issues that need to be address and worked on. I think there were people who wanted to see Arnett in AA by end of 09' season and well..... here he is pitching in Wisconson still at the end of 11' Can't count your chickens til they hatch, can't assume instant success based on college productivity and draft position. Let them get rolling in AFL, start them off in Wisconsin, get some pro ball under there feet and move them up as there production allows them. As for this season, I wouldn't mind if they went and got a few innings in but both, Jungmann more so have throw a ton innings and don't need much more.

2011 General Draft Discussion
YoungGeezy replied to colbyjack's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
The last thing i have seen from Jungmann is polish. Bad mechanics, secondary pitches are far from finished products, fastballs have life but control is an issue. In college you can get away with being lively and having kids swing at balls, not so much as he progresses to MLB. Yes awesome college stats, no one needs to throw them out there but i got to watch 3-4 starts this season and he has potential to be good but he is far from polished. Personally I like Bradley much better as a prospect as well as think he is much more important to sign. Hes south paw, unprotected, cleaner mechanics, can control/ throw 4 pitches in any count, and to me has the high ceiling lower floor. Not to forget the really arrogent vibe i have gotten from everything i have read and watched (interviews of Jungmann). Bradley was a no one 3 years ago topping out at 85 in high school and I love that. Shows how far he has come and that he still has room to continue to grow as player. Still both sign, 99.99998% sure of it. I love the idea of Rodon, Amaral, McFarland, and Mallex Smith over Jungmann however. To me those are 4 nice prospects who may in 3 years be top prospects with just as high of ceilings. Rodon is already a top 100-150 guy, I have a felling McFarland will sky rocket up boards at Rice. Amaral has plenty of upside and Smith is another exciting athlete like a Richardson and Dowell. -
Nothing to worry about. Baseball needs to find a way to correct this issue but I think 1% chance off not signing is generous. There stock will not be as high again. Seniors are older, arms more beat up, and they have no leverage.....they would really just be costing themselves the most. Also Covey will be fine, kid has been through a lot in the last year. Has he learns to handle his body and adjust to his diabities he will get better and better. Not an easy, smooth transaction for anyone.

Junior college...Yeah forgot he was draft and followed as a JUCO freshman not high school senior in an earlier post. Either way 19 year old pick with a lot of potential.
-
Also potential and talent by my definition are not to different. To me they are much the same. Mark Rogers is an extremely talent/gifted pitcher who also as has a lot of potential. Parra when he is on is flithy, extremly talented pitcher who had potential to be a #2 pitcher. To me talent is a superior gift in an area and potential is what you can do with or how high that talent is able to go..... they are hand and hand.
-
Not say to just pick high school. It needs to be best player available but in 2010 for example he brought only a very small amount high school players. I like this year where it was very balance. You'll find many more sleepers out of your HS kids. Your biggest physical & athletic growth come between 18-21. That is why so many undrafted hs kids or late round picks become by their junior year are top prospects or top 5 round talents. A scout could barely tell you who Jed Bradley was 4 years ago. In football JJ Watt wasnt big enough or arhletic enough to go play 4 Wisconsin. You know what your getting when you draft college, you have no clue when you draft high school. Also unimpressed with Cron tearing up Rookie ball, if his recently drafted high school brother was then yeah impressive but there is zero reason for a college senior not to. Look what Nick Ramirez did there. I like Cron but I'll wait a bit before I give him to much credit.

Will West is really starting to excite me. He attended Georgia Tech, but transferred after one semester to Tallahassee Community College and was redshirted. I wonder the reason for leaving. Due to him coming home maybe it was homesickness but who knows. I like everything I have read on him so far. Here is a scouting report from his Junior year of high school. (my guess is with his size and 2-3 yrs older he works in high 80's maybe low 90's.) And also a quote from that article in the transaction tread on him. PG National Showcase 2009 Article Quote He sounds like and has pitched like someone who be a huge steal. For some reason Jed Bradley keeps popping in my head. Similar size (Bradley was little heavier at age), both only were throwing in the 84-85 range in HS, both had really good off-speed stuff to off-set lack of velocity, both south paws, and just knows how to pitch. Also both were not drafted out of hs. I'm not say he will be the next Bradley or better but could become a really good prospect. Just turned 19 and would be just going into sophomore year of college. Ton of time to grow and improve.

One thing to remember was we were able to land that first wave with some top 10 picks (Prince, Weeks, Braun). To me the other key is that Brewers the last few years have really got away from drafting young talent while focusing on mostly college players. If you look at what really helped increase the talent level of our system it was a lot of the HS and international signings. Prince, Hart, Hardy, Bill Hall, Gallardo were all hits but the other guys you were in that wave Brad Nelson, Parra(HS DFC), Eveland (HS DFC), Krynzel, Mike Jones, Iribarren, and Ben Hendrickson all were guys that came up and looked like really good prospects. Hendrickson/Eveland became dreaded AAAA type guys, Nelson's injuries held him back then just never got there, Parra has it but injuries and loss of confidence have set him back, Jones was a trendenous prospect with #1/#2 stuff but his arm just couldnt get healthy, All these were high school draftees that really built up our system (even if they didn't work out) and made up that first wave. That second wave had Lawrie, Gindl, Salome, Jeffress, Rogers, Brantley, Cain (HS DFC), Escobar, Braddock (HS DFC). Sure the hit on a #2, #5, and #7 pick in the draft with Weeks, Braun, LaPorta. Landed a good college catcher and CF in Lucroy and Schafer. JUCO picks Gamel & Green. But when you really look at it most of there high ceiling, big prospects have been High Picks or international kids. With such college heavy drafts the last few years (09'-10') we have started to fill system with older, higher floor little lower ceiling guys. Still like Richardson, the Davis's, Heckathorn, Morris, Thornburg, and etc but really happy with how they really reenergized system with the new DSL talent and even though they're struggling, all the young guys down in Arizona....can't forget about Walla, Roberts, Rivera, and Garfield as well I think we will have a strong fourth wave in the coming years, the third wave highlighted by Peralta, Scarpetta, Thornburg, Gennett, Richardson, Bucci, Davis & Davis, Morris has some good potential as well
-
Reed making debut today for the baby Crew today, so far 1-2 and playing CF, Dowell has returned from concussion and is 2-3 so far with RBI in 6th inning.
-
That Eveland you see in the Great Falls box score id indeed former brewer drafree Kyle Eveland, the lil bro one former Top 10 prospect, SP Dana Eveland
-
Yeah, if we get to see Lopez in Wisconsin in 2012 id be shocked. They will Odorizzi him, except Jake signed earlier. Expect full year in Wisconsin in 2013 then depending on where he is at in 2014 they may start to promote him mid season. From watching him you can see how raw he is. They will take there time. Even on schedule above, he is be a young 21-22 in AA.
-
Fantastic news! Jungmann and Bradley wait ladt minute (Bauer only top pitcher who cares more bout career than failure bonus). Lets hope Brewers land another top 100 talent in Carlos Rodon next. Also Smith would be nice. McFarland i really doubt signs. Per Jim Callis via twitter, Reed receives 500k signing bonus, 161K slot I believe. Also notes intriging power speed arm combo
