  1. I wonder how Cain took this news. Didn't he get really upset during the winter meetings when his name was brought up in a trade rumor?
  2. Anyone have a brief scouting repot on Greinke? While I know his numbers, I haven't had too many chances to watch him pitch. What are his strongest pitches?
  3. I am loving this trade. I mentioned this in the rumor thread late last night which I'm sure most people didn't see. I like this move because we tried to get young pitching for Prince this offseason which clearly didn't pan out. With Greinke and Marcum both here through 2012, when we lose Prince after this season we can always trade Greinke and/or Marcum next offseason or during 2012 for the young pitching we desired. This move allows us to really go for it this year and still get back to where we thought we would be this season.
  4. The more and more I think about this trade, the more I like it. I think this would be a great job by Melvin (if true). Originally the plan was to trade Prince this offseason for young pitching which obviously fell through. Instead, he has put together a rotation that will give us a great opportunity to contend this year and when we lose Prince, we will have both Greinke and Marcum to trade during the 2011-12 offseason or 2012 season to get the young pitching we desired for Prince if we have a huge dropoff after this year.
  5. Wow, just logged on to BF.net and did not expect to see this. This trade excites me although I'm a little nervous about giving up both Cain and Ordorizzi. If this is true, I'm glad I kept the Cain tshirt jersey off my christmas list which I had planned to ask for. I'll be much more comfortable with this trade if there is a good chance of an extension.
  6. This has to be one of my favorite things I've ever read on BF.net.
  7. I don't really see him being available either but my immature side would like to thank him for keeping that last name around in baseball.
  8. The New Pornographers - Together Arcade Fire - Suburbs Broken Bells - Broken Bells Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More (It was actually released in the U.S. in 2010) Spoon - Transference Rogue Wave - Permalight Strand Of Oaks - Pope Kildragon David Cross - Bigger And Blackerer (Obviously not music but still an awesome album) This is just quickly off the top of my head and I'm sure there are some obvious ones I'm forgetting
  9. It is frequently mentioned when discussing a free agent that he only performs well during a contract year. (Obviously this has been brought up recently when discussing Pavano). My question is, is there a stat that shows that a player perform better in a contract year, and if they do, how can this be explained? I find it hard to believe that player would be able to significantly increase his numbers when he is about to become a free agent and thus, this argument is not relevant (but I could be wrong). Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  10. I don't think there is a site to look up detailed information on numbers without paying a fee. If there is a free site I would like to know. If I were you I would just call the number as there really isn't any harm in doing that.
  11. Do not understand this move. I would much rather just have Kottaras than sign Nieves. I guess Doug thought too many people were happy after the Marcum trade so he had to regain his bad guy status. A bit off topic, but I didn't realize that catcher got credit for a CS when the pitcher picks off a runner as mentioned in TH's blog. That doesn't make much sense either.
  12. It is a little troubling that there were executives who weren't aware that Lawrie was available if true although I think most people knew that nearly everyone in the Brewers organization is "available" this offseason. These executives could also be from teams that didn't have anyone Melvin was interested in. Since I haven't commented on the trade yet, I'll just say I'm happy with it. Marcum pitched very well in a tough division last year. I've also always been a little confused as to where Lawrie fit exactly in the Brewer's plans for the future.
  13. I'm going to the game as well and while I will probably be stupid and underdress in order to wear red, there will be plenty of people wearing coats that aren't red.
  14. Really nice gesture by Hoffman. However, I think he will end up retiring so it won't really matter. San Diego is really the only team I could see signing him.
  15. I'm looking forward to this. There is no one more entertaining than Bob Uecker. It'll be interesting to see how serious the interview will get. I don't think it's possible for him to go more than a few sentences without cracking a joke.
  16. Even though it really has nothing to do with the Cubs, I am still going to consider it another one of their failures. I wasn't planning on watching this game but I might have to tune in for a while just to see how that works.
  17. I've received several LinkedIn invites the past couple of weeks (albeit from people that I knew) that they didn't even know they sent so I'm guessing there might be something wrong with LinkedIn.
  18. Fair answer. As someone who frequently uses Wikipedia I figured I would try and learn a bit about the people who feed me all my information.
  19. Haha! Deep down I knew it had to be someone on Brewerfan. I'm glad that mystery is solved. Now my question is, why didn't you feel Narron deserved the same treatment?
  20. I saw the news that Rick Kranitz was named the new pitching coach minutes after it broke. Not knowing too much about him, I looked him up on wikipedia. It was already on there that he had been named the new pitching coach for the Brewers. Are there really people out there who see a bit of news and immediately think "I better update wikipedia"? I'd like to think that Doug Melvin is a wikipedia nerd and updates it himself.
  21. I'm not surpised by this as well but as Haudricourt mentions in his blog, I think it's odd that they bought into his system and implemented it throughout the organization only to get rid of him after a year. I'll hold off judgement until I see who the new pitching coach is though.
  22. Hopefully the Bucks spend a lot of time this season giving each other high fives and hugs.
  23. I'm almost 26 years old and watching the Marquette basketball game. For the first time in my life, an entire college cheerleading squad looks clearly much too young for me. I'm starting to get old.
  24. I thought the opening was really funny. When Michael started scooping up the gravel I was cracking up.
