  1. Just got back from the Kernels game here in Cedar rapids, sat six rows behind home plate for $10 bucks, buy one get one free tickets. Not half bad. - Heckathorn was consistently in the low 90's and touched 94 MPH three or four times. - Mike Trout lead off for the Kernels, and he was pretty fun to watch. He stole his 42nd base of the season off Heckathorn/Garfield (CR were 5/5 on SB's) - Michael Marseco got crushed in the second inning during a run-down. Dykstra lollipopped his throw to him and he pretty much got railroaded. He was down for a few minutes, but finished the game. Oh, and there is no way he weighs 145 pounds or is 5'9". I'll give him 5'7, 135 max. Fun game, although the Rats were pretty flat. Can't complain for $10!
  2. I don't think it's fair to call Sanchez a #5. His peripherals match up to (or are slightly better than) Parra's, and he also has been able to keep runs off the board better than Parra. Now, whether his ERA is lower simply due to luck/babip/good defense I don't know, but he certainly isn't a #5 pitcher. If we could get Bumgartner for Hart, I'd pull the trigger immediately. Hart has been awesome this year, but I really don't think he has a lot of excess value going forward, and Bumgartner should.
  3. Ty Wiggington made the all-star team. I know the Orioles are bad, but really, Ty Wiggington? The same goes for John Buck. That's pretty special. Edit: Just saw Omar Infante on the roster? Is that a typo or a joke?
  4. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/brewers.html Well, it's not going to be Bush. Looks like it will either be Narveson or Parra. Let's hope it's not the latter...
  5. Agreed on Moon Man. I have yet to find someone who isn't impressed by it. Heck, I do enjoy west coast pales, but after a while they get a bit old. I've found all of NG's wheats to be sessionable, with the exception of the Imperial Weizen, which is still an interesting brew. We're definitely spoiled by NG when it comes to wheat beers here in Wisconsin; I find myself disappointed by just about every other wheat I drink.
  6. I can see why you feel this way about Axford, but why don't you think Braddock can close games for the Crew in the future? He has been between 13 and 15 K/9 at each level of the minors since being converted to a reliever, and he has shown pretty decent control as well. So long as Axford can avoid walking too many batters, the Braddock/Axford combo could be quite good for the next 6 years. What I keep coming back to on Jeffress is that I would rather have an arm like that throw 180 innings than 60. If the plan is to keep him as a reliever, there must be something the organization knows that we don't. They know how badly they need legitimate pitching prospects right now. Again, letting Jeffress break back into the swing of things does not tell me the organization is converting him permanently. He has missed almost a year of baseball, and in the minors relievers can commonly go 2, 3, even sometimes 4 innings at a time if the situation is right. I'm not going to get too excited about his results in A ball, but his lack of walks was nice to see.
  7. Nice win! I don't think I can bring myself to cheer for the sCrubs over the Reds tomorrow.
  8. Randy Wolf: You are the best pitcher in the NL. Your stuff isn't powerful, but it is incredibly deceptive. You have pinpoint accuracy. http://kingsbridesforum.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/wolf20-20sheep2.jpg From this point on, you will have a 3.50 ERA. You will strike out 2.5 batters for every one you walk and keep the ball down in the strikezone.
  9. I agree with you on the account that Wolf has been absolutely disgustingly barf-baggingly horrendous so far, but I still think he projects to be somewhat better than Bush going forward. Another angle is that leaving Wolf in the rotation leaves us a chance of dealing him at some point either this season or next season, if he can start to put up some decent innings. Obviously we'd have to pick up some salary, but maybe less if he throws the ball well.
  10. ^ Bush has a little bit of value, but he isn't worth what he is being paid. Flyball starting pitchers with 1.16K/BB ratios usually are not hot commodities.
  11. Wouldn't it take less time for Macha to throw a red flag, have someone review the play, and get back to the game than it took for McGehee and Macha to argue?
  12. There are really only a handful of fruit beers I like, and just about all of them come from either New Glarus or Dogfish Head. Out of New Glarus' fruit beers, Enigma is probably my favorite while Cherry Stout is probably my least favorite. I also recently finished off my Unibroue sampler 4-pack, which had La Fin du Monde, Maudite, Don de Dieu, and Trois Pistoles. It was only $8.99, and I'd suggest it to anybody looking for to sample a few very good Quebecois Belgians.
  13. Please let it be Bush. Even if an argument can be made that Bush should be .50 runs/9 better than Narveson (an argument I don't personally agree with), for the future of this team we need to have a better idea of whether Narveson can be a 4.50-4.75 type guy or not. Although Wolf has absolutely sucked, he still probably is one of the best five starters on this team going forward. Parra has been much better than Bush over the course of the season, and projects to be a much better pitcher going forward. Gallardo is Gallardo. It comes down to putting either Bush or Davis in the rotation, and I don't have much preference either way. If I had to choose though, I'd give the spot to DD.
  14. Interesting, Bill. Parra struggled after running the bases, and now Yo is as well! Of course! Major League pitchers are incapable of standing on a base and running for ten seconds!
  15. Hopefully this motivates him. I know he's had his troubles, but he has an incredible arm and it would be a shame to see him get a lifetime ban. He has blown away Low-A hitters, so hopefully he can move up a level soon.
  16. Bump. Just poured another glorious New Glarus Enigma. This is an awesome beer, especially if you like Sour Ales. I know the style really isn't for everyone, but it's one of my favorites.

  18. Yup. This is definitely a remote control throwing type of game. Macha is such an idiot for taking Manny out. He would have been able to finish the inning just fine.
  19. I wonder what Braun would think about moving to 1st base...
  20. It may not be, but odds are hugely in favor of him being one of the best 8 bats on the team, and the team not having a better option at 1B.If McGehee is just a .270/.340/.460/.800 guy, I think we can find that type of production in a first baseman for pretty cheap. Perhaps McGehee could be dealt to a team needing a 3B and then the Brewers could just sign a free agent on the cheap.
  21. I'm pretty confident that given the time, Lawrie can be a better defensive 2B than Weeks. I would not be surprised at all if the Brewers simply let Weeks walk at this point and took the draft picks. That would be a ridiculously cheap lineup though (estimates below): Cain: .4 Weeks: 7.5 Braun: 6 Gamel: .4 McGehee: 3.5 Lawrie: .4 Lucroy: .4 Escobar: .4 Totaling $19MM. A couple of concerns though. 1) Defense. If Escobar can develop into an elite shortstop and Gamel can get his throws more accurate, that should be a decent defensive team, but those are pretty big 'ifs'. 2) Casey McGehee. I just don't know if his bat is big enough to stick at 1B. 3) Lorenzo Cain. I'm not comfortable penciling him into the lead-off spot yet.
  22. Argentine just "scored". Tevez was 5 yards off-sides and headed the ball in. What percentage of goals have been called correctly in this world cup? Maybe 75-85%? This is an absolute disgrace.
  23. Am I the only one who is enjoying watching England getting thrashed? Blown call aside, the English defense has been terrible.
