  1. I really don't think the Pacific NW can hold a candle to the upper midwest. Would you rather have: New Glarus, Bell's, Jolly Pumpkin, Three Floyds, Founders, Kuhnnen (never had their beers but they're awesome from what I've heard), Goose Island, Surly, and Tyranena or Russian River, Rogue, Hair of the Dog and North Coast?
  2. Kudos to Macha for batting Rickie 3rd, but why not: CF Cain LF Inglett 2B Weeks 1B Fielder 3B McGehee C Lucroy SS Counsell RF Escobar P Narveson
  3. Man, do I NOT miss the midwest. My favorite bars Tweet their latest beer lists . . . Huh? The northern midwest is probably the best place to be if you're a beer nerd...At least in this country. New Glarus, Bell's, Founders, Tyranena, Goose Island, Jolly Pumpkin, etc. Not to mention that breweries like DH and Stone have better distribution in the midwest than midwest breweries do on the coasts... But it's okay, us midwesterners have no palate for beer, and don't enjoy anything but macroswill.
  4. OK, let me rephrase and be more blunt. Dickerson is definitely the older player, but he might be a better player than Cain. And still cheap and controllable for a long time. The point is that Dickerson is likely at his peak while Cain likely has 3-5 years to improve.
  5. Cots has Dickerson at just over one year of service time. I'm assuming his first arby year will be 2012. Is this correct? This trade looks to be nice for the Brewers, and will probably turn out well for the Reds too. UZR likes Dickerson's defense, as he has posted a 15.1 UZR/150 throughout 600 innings in the corners and 250 innings in center. Obviously a pretty small sample to make a profound judgement of his defensive abilities, but at first glance that's a very good figure. Does anybody else have a better idea of how good he is defensively?
  6. You're misreading that. That is a 0.055 percent chance at the division. As in, 5.5 times in 10,000 not 5.5 in 100. So you're saying there's a chance! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_0JjK2c-5-N0/Sx_jiEha7mI/AAAAAAAAD3I/yw1FQU16BjU/s320/a_chance.jpeg
  7. If the Cubs 15-36 from here on out, they will lose 100 games.
  8. Oh joy. I guess Ken was in quite a zim-zam there, we wouldn't want to hand over a seven run lead to the bullpen!
  9. The Blue Jays have scored a run in each of the first seven innings of their game against the Rays. They have hit eight HR's, six of which were surrendered by Shields.
  10. Wow. We put our new puppy to bed after the top of the 9th, and I certainly wasn't expecting this. What a great early morning surprise.
  11. They played 161 games in three different seasons due to rainouts. Mark Reynolds struck out 223 times last season. Nellie Fox struck out 216 times in his 19 year Hall of Fame career from 1947 to 1965.
  12. Bingo! Let's see what he's got, Ken.
  13. 15!Does anybody know what the Southern League record is? I think someone threw it out on here a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure it was something like 19. Lawrie has a pretty good chance at that. Better not fasttrack him to AAA now, Doug!
  14. Is anybody else here not yet sold on Cain? His .318/.404/.434/.838 OPS is solid, but it's been fueled by a .394 BABIP. If we're generous and say he is the type of player that can maintain a .350 BABIP, and adjust his line for this, his line turns into something like .284/.375/.400/.775. His MLE this season is .267/.336/.347/.683. I'm as sick of Carlos Gomez as anybody, but I think we really need to temper our expectations for Cain. If it were up to me, I would leave him in AAA for at least the rest of this season, and depending on his success and Gomez's failure determine whether he should make the team out of opening day or come up in the middle of the season. Right now, I'd peg him for something like a .275/.345/.375/.720 line next year, which is solid, but certainly not top of the order material. I really like Cain, but I need to see him do more in the minors before I'm comfortable penciling him in as a top of the order hitter.
  15. On PTI today, Tony Kornheiser said that if A-Rod were placed on waivers, every one of the other 29 teams jump all over him. Kornheiser for Cubs GM!
  16. What happened on that HBP? I just turned off the game and I'm following it on gameday.
  17. Woah, I think the sarcasm in that statement was pretty clear. Endaround, I'm torn on Braun right now. I think the best solution is to make sure he is healthy and just give him a bit of a rest.
  18. Pfft. I'm sure Casey knew to get under the ball due to the wind.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  20. Hart is OPS'ing 3000 since signing his extension. Naysayers, be silenced! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. I know I'm late to chime in, but here are my two cents: As a completely objective person, I'm okay with this deal. It should pay Hart roughly what he is worth over his two free agent years. I also don't think he's as bad defensively as his -8.1 UZR this season says (I think he's more of a -5 defender in RF). As a fan, I'm very happy. This makes the 2011-2013 lineup look a lot better, especially if Fielder departs in the off season. Hopefully Corey doesn't make Doug regret this deal.
  22. I hope to never see him manage the Brewers again, but I wish him success in Kansas City. Overall, he was a class act in Milwaukee, and the players did really seem to like him.
  23. I was really hoping Gamel could pull it together at third, but if he can be an average right fielder, this move will probably be a good thing. McGehee is borderline terrible defensively, but he has produced at the plate and is probably a bit too portly to move anywhere but first, where he would have little value. Taylor Green is having a bounce-back season in AA this year, and Lawrie could probably move over as well, although I'd rather have him stick at 2nd unless Weeks is extended.
  24. That was a beautiful play by Escobar. He has shown flashes of brilliance at short, and I'm still holding out hope that he can bring a bit more consistency.
