  1. Gomez needs to go to AAA until he starts to hit. He has been painfully awful this year. I don't like burning too much of Cain's service time, but if he's up, I want him playing. I really doubt that he can possibly be worse than Gomez, and Edmonds has no value to this team in the long run. It really is amazing how many runs this team has scored despite having both Gomez and Escobar consistently in the lineup.
  2. Did anybody catch Boras' comment: “If you look at Mark Teixeira’s contract, he made the Yankees money,” Boras said. “How many teams would take on Mark Teixeira’s contract? I would say 20. The reason is it’s good business to do that. Those players are invaluable.” I know he's playing the agent role, but I'm curious about how many teams would actually pick up Teixera's current deal? Would any team pick that up right now?

  4. It shows that the Yankees are an extremely profitable franchise, probably the most profitable over Steinbrenner's tenure. No, they don't make more money every year, but they certainly have over 25 years. And no, Steinbrenner doesn't equal the Yankees, but he does own them, and receive their profits...
  5. http://www.rodneyfort.com...se/MLBIncomeExpense.html Here's Rodney Fort's page that lists franchise expenditures and revenue. You'll find that the Yankees consistently ran operating incomes between $15-20MM (I believe in nominal terms, although I am not sure) between 1980 and 2005. They've posted significant losses in recent years, but over the course of his ownership he made an absolute killing. Not to mention when he bought the franchise it was worth something like $8MM and now it is worth somewhere around a billion.
  6. Yes, but Chris Berman and Joe Morgan are still announcing. I haven't heard a coherent thought yet from either of them.
  7. At least we can listen to Chris Berman's insightful commentary.
  8. That's a pretty huge margin, especially given that both of those teams are better than the Brewers and the Cubs are about as good as the Brewers.
  9. Well, if Wood wants his perfecto, he's going to have to go at least 10. Wouldn't it be funny if the Phils hit a walk-off homer?
  10. Wait, that guy actually had a job in like, a real professional kitchen? I thought he was just some corporate dude from Piggly Wiggly.
  11. For those watching the 3rd place game, Forlan with a beauty. Uruguay really seem to want this one more than the Germans, which is understandable. Suarez is getting quite the treatment from the African fans for his handball in the quarters.
  12. What is Daniels thinking? This seems like a major overpay. Smoak is likely 2-5 wins for the next 6 seasons. Lueke has struck out 62 and walked 10 in 38.1 between AA and A+. Beaven is 21 and has a 68:12 K:BB in AA this season. Lawton is 25, but he has a .800 OBP heavy OPS in AA, and is decent filler. If it gets them to the World Series, it might be worth it. But that is a lot to send for 1/2 a season of Cliff Lee.
  13. I might be the odd man out here, but I really really want Cain to finish this season in AAA. He's having a great season but he really labored through his 60 games in 2009. I think he's going to be a good player, and I want him to be ready to be a starter when he makes it to the majors. As for both Gerut and Estrada, whatever happens happens. Neither are very valuable at this point.
  14. How about 10 cent beer for the next game? That couldn't possibly end poorly, could it? Maybe some company should start a promotion that's pretty much the opposite of the one Culver's does for badger hockey (5 goals for the badgers = free ice cream), but more like "If the Brewers lose this game by more than twelve runs, or are down by more than six runs in the first four innings, we'll give you 10% off a new TV so you never have to come to the stadium and see this happen again"
  15. Even if it makes no difference, I'm so sick of looking at Macha that I want him fired. My vote goes to that one MiLB ump that threw the rosin bag like a grenade. You can't tell me it wouldn't be more entertaining to watch this team FAIL if he were placed behind the helm...
  16. "Parra gives up 18 scorching liners, great range by defense helps them get to 9 of them, but also leads to two defensive errors" by Anthony Witrado Even the exceptional defense of this ball club could not keep Parra from giving up a horrendous six runs in five innings against one of the worst offenses in the history of baseball. Parra was wild as well, walking two batters and throwing 32 balls out of the strike zone. By my math, with the way he threw today, he should have given up 8 walks.
  17. They would need 33,300 for 2.75 mil and 26,900 for 2.5 mil. At this point, I'll be happy as long as they get somewhere between 2.5 and 2.75 million for the season. This is the type of team that isn't worth showing up to watch right now.
  18. I wonder how long it will be until they stop calling the infield fly and just award other teams a single. It seems unfair to give us an out.
  19. I would say the pitching staff is unlucky to have a terrible defense... And yes, they probably have performed somewhat below their true talent level. Whether that's luck, being on the wrong side of variation, or whatever, they are better than a 71 win team.
  20. Now you are just being silly. Yo's career .237 OBP is that sexy to you, huh? To be fair, Gallardo has more HR's in the last two seasons than Kendall has in the last three http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif. I don't think people are really only suggesting that Gallardo is a better hitter than some of our field players out of frustration. I can honestly say that I get less annoyed watching Gallardo at the plate than either Escobar or Gomez. Funny how we think a pitcher who puts up a .200/.225/.375/.600 is better than a SS who puts up a .250/.300/.325/625 line. As for his trip to the DL, I think this is definitely the right move for the Brewers. Oblique strains are not something you want to mess with, and I for one would much rather see Yo out for 5-6 starts than struggling through the rest of the season (and next) with this strain.
