  1. I don't know if that's fair to Carey. Outside of the Unplugged series, I'd consider pretty much everything they brew to be sessionable. If you compare the lineup of New Glarus to that of Stone, FFF, Founders, DH, etc., they definitely have more of a focus on everyday/session beers. I sampled Potosi's Snake Hollow at Steve's Liquor in Madison a couple weeks ago, and I thought it was a pretty decent IPA. Not awesome, and I probably wouldn't choose it over other options (Goose, DH).
  2. I'm guessing he'll slide into the lineup as a DH, although I'm sure he'll get a few starts at first with Tex DH'ing.
  3. But this is true for a lot of industries. Couldn't the same be said about great chefs, scientists, or brewers? If Dan Carey decided to ship up New Glarus Brewing Company and move it to Murmansk, I'd be a heck of a lot more let down than if Prince Fielder left for the Yankees. Would you propose that the Carey family should not be allowed to move their brewery?
  4. ^That's definitely Sabathia. (/sheds tear, remembering better times)
  5. Thanks And That. Not a half bad guy to have deeper down the depth chart.
  6. Do we really have to go here? Let's pretend that when you were ready to find a job, different firms acquired you via a draft system. Let's say they have the right to pay you 1/10th of your worth, and that you couldn't leave them for another firm. This firm could be in Edmonton, Miami, or New York City, and you might hate the city you have to work in. That sounds just, doesn't it?
  7. I don't think it's accurate to say that Gamel is blocked. The major concern with Gamel is obviously his defense, but McGehee's defense has been pretty bad over the last two seasons (career -13.5 UZR/150 at 3B), and Gamel's erratic arm won't be as detrimental if the Crew can acquire a 1B who can scoop a ball. Gamel's K's are way down this year, and I'm hoping this means he has turned the corner. He's 25 already, so he needs to get things figured out sooner than later.
  8. Well, I guess Ramos had a lot less value to Minnesota than to other teams, but even given his struggles this year (which I admittedly just looked up), this seems like a lot to give up for a mediocre to good reliever.
  9. Komatsu with another two walks, he's now walked more times (47) than he's struck out (46). Does anybody know if he profiles as a decent defensive CF? I really haven't heard much about his defensive abilities.
  10. Big Ben's career will always be a story of what could have been. Just to reminisce on how absurdly awesome he was back in the day, check out his 2004 statistics: 34 GS 237 IP 264 SO 32 BB 8.25 K/BB 2.70 ERA 2.65 FIP 2.70 xFIP That's Cy Young worthy most years.
  11. ^ That says to me that it's a terrible market, and Melvin knows he's not going to get the return he wants. He obviously shopped him around, and didn't get good offers. I'm pretty confident in my belief that we would have all been pretty upset with Melvin if he would have traded either of Fielder or Hart for what he would have been able to receive for them in this market.
  12. This is a pretty brutal sellers market. At this point, I'd rather enjoy watching Prince Fielder for the rest of the season than get a miserable return.
  13. It's easy to be critical of Melvin for not selling, but this trade market just seems exceptionally cold. Honestly, we're probably better off waiting for the off-season and seeing what we can get. As for not selling high on Hart, I'll just echo what rluz said. When GM's look to acquire a player, they don't pay for what he has done, but for what he can be expected to do. I think that just about any of the returns Melvin could have gotten for either Hart or Fielder would have been major disappointments, simply because it was a weak market and we tend to overvalue our own players. It would be nice to ditch a few spare parts, even if they are of minimal value (Hoffman, though we'd have to pick up salary, Villanueva, Edmonds), as this team really doesn't look like they have a playoff run in them.
  14. Take this for what it's worth: http://www.mlbtraderumors...-are-off-the-market.html
  15. Cantu was really the best they could do? I guess he can play all around the infield, but that's a pretty weak bat at first.
  16. Cain with another nice performance. 1 for 3 with a double and 3 walks. Great to see him drawing walks.
  17. When I saw Heckathorn a couple weeks ago he was consistently 91-92 and touched 94.
  18. Nope. He was just getting rocked. Well, I guess that's better than an injury. Scary inning there. At this rate, I'm going to be asleep by the 6th inning.
  19. I missed the 3rd inning (and Yo's homer for that matter). I know Yo was struggling, but was that the only reason he was removed after 2.2 innings?
  20. C'mon Carlos, you gotta get that average up to .260 so you can use your speed!
  21. Don't forget that Jenkins turned 30 the year after Sexson left. I'm pretty confident that age and other factors had more to do with it than Sexson's departure. As for protection, I'll just reiterate what's been said on here before. There is little, if any, evidence that protection has a significant effect on player performance.
  22. Don't choose the Maple Leafs. They are way too fun to cheer against. The Penguins are good, but you don't really want to be that guy. Looks like you're down to the Blues. They play tons of games near Wisconsin (St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit, St. Paul, Columbus), but I wouldn't expect a cup run from them within the next few years.
  23. Milwaukee Brewers FS Wisconsin 5.20 (-26.9%) 46,893 (-27.2%) Chicago Cubs CSN Chicago 2.71 (-39.1%) 94,877 (-39.0%) Win.
