  1. Kintzler is the only one with an option, right? I'm not sure if Figaro's contract allows the club to send him to the minors (it's listed as a minor-league deal, not sure if they're not allowed to send him down after he makes the club). But out of those two it would have to be Kintzler. I hadn't realized the Brewers don't have anybody with an ERA above 4.41 except for Axford. For the most part, the bullpen has been effective this season. I suspect frustrations from last year are influencing my frustration with the bullpen this season. Really though, do we expect K-Rod to be any better than Kintzler or Figaro? I can't say given that I haven't seen him throw, but if his velocity is down to 90 or so, I see no reason to bring him up unless he's tearing through AAA or there's an injury.
  2. Can Jean Segura pitch? Something tells me the Angels are wishing this trade hadn't gone through: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=1&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0
  3. Does he have a large platoon split? If so then I see no reason to think that number couldn't be upped a bit using my patented eyeball method of prospect projections. Oh, and when I say I think that .275/.325/.350 line is optimistic, I'm referring to this season. Obviously he could develop a bit more and that's probably pessimistic as a career upside.
  4. I should clarify that I think the .275/.325/.350 line for Gennett right now is very optimistic. I don't know a ton about his play this year, but his slash line screams to me a lot of balls finding holes and dribblers making it through the infield. His ISO's over the past three stops in the minors are .072 this season in ~130 PA's in AAA, .092 in ~600 PA's in AA, and .106 in ~600 PA's in A+. Despite Weeks' struggles, I don't think it's time to bring Gennett to the big leagues. Let's see how he can do in an entire year of AAA ball and if he can be productive over the course of the entire season and maybe show a bit more power or patience, then perhaps he can be considered the eventual replacement for Weeks.
  5. What type of line are we expecting out of Gennett? Based on his MiLB slash lines and a BABIP nearing .400 this season I think an optimistic projection for this season would be something like .275/.325/.350. Weeks has been horrible this season and my expectations for him going forward are greatly tempered, but I just don't see Gennett as an improvement this season. If Weeks is still hitting like this at the All Star break, then I think you have to sit him down.
  6. ...and let's get this one back on topic. Gomez over the past two seasons (546 PA's): .277/.324/.489/.813. Let's just say I'm happy to have an elite defensive CF who can swing the bat that well. Should he continue to put up those numbers, he'll be quite the deal.
  7. I haven't had much of a chance to watch Bayern this season. But seriously, how good are these guys? 11-0 aggregate in the past two rounds of Champions League vs. Juventus and Barcelona. They're 27-3-1 in league play, with 90-14 goals for/against. They're 5-0-0 in the Pokal, 17-1 for/against. Anybody have any thoughts on where these guys rank in terms of the great teams of the past decade or so? Outside of the hiccup against BATE Borisov, they've been absurdly good.
  8. I think most people here view Brian as one of the best in the business and Bill as better than average. The Pirates' guys are pretty bad. Silly blackout rules; I miss fewer games per year than those of you in Wisconsin due to the blackout rules.
  9. Career line in 264 PA's: .299/.354/.415. Combine that with very solid defense and you have one of the better SS's in the league even if he stays on that level. This team shouldn't have to worry about SS until 2019. That sounds pretty good.
  10. Aaron Hicks is slugging .127 and he has 87 PA's. Among players with at least 10 PA's this season, Yovani Gallardo is 16th in MLB with a .452 wOBA. Kameron Loe has given up 17 fly balls in 11.2 innings. Eight have gone for homers.
  11. RF Norichika Aoki SS Jean Segura LF Ryan Braun C Jonathan Lucroy 2B Rickie Weeks CF Carlos Gomez 3B Yuniesky Betancourt 1B Martin Maldonado RHP Kyle Lohse
  12. Even last season Weeks ranked 11th in wOBA among qualified 2B. The problem with Weeks is that he's seemed to drop off defensively over the past few years after he became a dependable defensive 2B. As somebody who generally doesn't get terribly concerned about slow starts and players looking terrible over a few weeks, he's starting to concern me quite a bit. I still don't think he's become a horrible baseball player over the offseason, but it seems far less likely now than it did last April that he'll give us another season like 2010 or 2011.
  13. That has to be one of the worst jersey combinations I've ever seen. Wily Peralta needs to go on one of those HGTV shows that my wife watches where they help people wear fashionable clothing.
  14. Something tells me Bo Ryan won't be recruiting him too aggressively.
  15. I was talking the other day about how the excitement of a system to determine a league champion seems to be so strongly negatively correlated with the excitement of said system. If I had to rank some sports on how well their championship determines the best team, I'd go something like {1. European Soccer (league), 2. NCAA Football (pre-playoff), 3. NBA, 4. Champions League, 5. MLB, 6. NFL, 7. NCAA Basketball, 8. NHL}. My rankings for which are the most exciting (not the sport, the system, as I've arbitrarily decided I can disentangle the 2!) {1. NCAA Basketball, 2. NHL, 3. NFL, 4. Champions League, 5. MLB, 6. NBA, 7. BCS, 8. League Soccer}. So, as I've proven with this very scientific study, crowning the best team as champion is boring.
  16. Rick Ankiel has put nine balls in play through 38 AB's. he has 23 k's.
  17. Weeks is struggling pretty badly right now, but is there really a significantly better option? Aoki, Segura, and Braun aren't going to move. That leaves Lucroy, Weeks, Yuni B, Gonzalez, and Gomez rounding out the lineup. I guess Lucroy could move to the four spot and Gomez to the five, but realistically I'd bet on Weeks to put up a better line going forward than Gomez and probably Lucroy too. I'm comfortable with giving the management some leeway here. If they think Weeks would benefit from being moved down, it's fine by me. He's looked horrible, but I don't think that's a sufficient condition to say he'll continue to look horrible. Odds are he'll snap out of this and start doing what he's done for the past half-decade; it's just a matter of when.
  18. We've been having a fairly warm April in NC as well, although March was cold (we had more 70+ days in January than March). I don't know if I ever remember a spring this cold and miserable in Wisconsin. I've been here for two years and I already have become a wuss about cold/bad weather. I've decided that anything under 70 degrees is strict pants weather.
  19. Not going to be able to watch this one. Still feelin' some good juju.
  20. Breaking: Washington Nationals sign Kim Jong-Un to 8 year, $160 million deal.
  21. Can we at least give Weeks a month before getting on him? He will be fine. I'd bet on Weeks hitting better from here on out, but Segura has a bit of a lead built up. I'll take Segura for BA, Weeks for just about everything else.
  22. I could understand wanting to get to the plate in the first inning from a mental standpoint. As for Weeks struggling, we went through this last year and he eventually got it going. We're 15 games into the season; he'll be fine!
  23. I'm not sure who else should go in the 4 spot other than Weeks. Braun's not moving from the 3 hole and Aoki is the obvious lead-off hitter. He's really the only option.
  24. Let's not say sweep until the bullpen gets out there. We all know how these things can go...
