  1. Just saw the "high" light of Morgan. That's routine. Why do all of his worst moments seem to come with the bases loaded?
  2. I figure it's about time for a thread. Got a whole slate of regional games over the weekend. If you're interested, it looks like several of the games have (legal) streams available. I'm watching Carolina-Cornell right now, and after Cornell stuck around with a couple huge defensive plays, Carolina is starting to put runs on the board, and leads 3-0 in the 4th. Looking like a rain delay soon though! Sadly, I couldn't convince the wife to let me leave her and our baby for 20 hours this weekend to take in the Chapel Hill regional (not that I blame her).
  3. That lineup is pretty ugly without Braun. I actually hope he keeps Aoki in the 1-hole going forward but I don't expect he will. Hopefully it's just a routine day off for Braun.
  4. I'd peg it at three wins. There's no way of knowing with any bit of certainty, but given the numbers I think that's a pretty good ballpark estimate. Three wins is nothing to scoff at either. Take three wins away from the Crew, and you're looking at a 19-31 record and 9 games out of first. That's a pretty big difference from where they are now.
  5. Attanasio: "We always have a buyer's mindset," Attanasio said, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "In seven years, we've always had a buyer's mindset." We all know to take these words with a grain of salt, but I don't have a feeling this team is ready to sell quite yet. It will be interesting to see how Attanasio handles rebuilding seasons. He seems to have a "win now" personality, and we're yet to see this team in all-out rebuild mode since he purchased the team.
  6. Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs! The most significant difference between the playoffs and the regular season is the 3-4 man rotation. With Marcum, Gallardo, and Greinke up front that might make the Brewers project a bit better in the playoffs.
  7. I heard Hawk's outburst live. It's like they gave an irritable fan on a message board a microphone and said "hey, you should call games".
  8. I've been looking through the "Actor Pull" for ages and I still haven't been able to land a gig. That's about the best I can do for an Arrested Development reference.
  9. FWIW, he leads Hudson in fWAR by a margin of 31 to 24.7. UZR grades his defense as mediocre to slightly below average while Baseball-Ref's stat (Total Zone?) rates it as monumentally horrible. B-Ref also gives Hudson a big boost on defense while UZR rates him as about average for his career. I'm not sure what they do about positional adjustments at BRef but I tend to prefer UZR to their defensive metric so I tend to favor fWAR as a descriptive measure.
  10. Braun just can't do it without his little helper. His wOBA has dropped an entire .001 from last season! He could easily crack 40 HR's this season. And hit well over .300. Dude's just a great all around hitter.
  11. Here's my new conspiracy theory: 1) Roenicke tells Randy Wolf that he's going to try starting Lucroy behind the plate in one of his starts due to his hot bat. 2) Wolf angry. 3) Hooded man in black comes into Lucroy's hotel room to ensure Kottaras gets the next start. 4) Lucroy struggles, punches through his chest and hits a wall. The assailant is placed in the dumpster next to the hotel.
  12. I don't know if it makes much of a big difference, but having the injuries might help some fans understand the sell-off if it should occur. Management could play it off as "re-loading" rather than "re-building", as that seems to conjure images of the early 2000's Brewers.
  13. Two birds with one stone . I don't think it's that silly to speculate that he actually punched something. I remember trying to make up an excuse after I punched a wall for my bruised up hand. The best I could do was "I punched a wall".
  14. Can we come up with a list of players on the Nashville opening day roster that have been in Milwaukee this season? Conrad, Green, Farris, Maysonet, Maldonado, Fiers, Peralta, McClendon, Chulk, Perez That's ten I count. Am I missing anybody? I don't think we've called up anybody from AA yet, but I could be mistaken.
  15. FWIW, Maldonado's Zips projection is .230 .296 .332. That's not too terrible, I suppose. He's a fine backup replacement (isn't he known as a solid defensive catcher?), but he just can't replace what Lucroy has been doing this season. This sucks.
  16. Well you could describe another Wisconsin legend with perve-...Never mind.
  17. If it weren't for injuries, I'd love to see more teams play around with ridiculous defensive configurations. Hart at SS? Why not? Put Axford at catcher, Braun at pitcher, and watch the hilarity ensue.
  18. If that's the best Kottaras can do, the Dodgers ought to be running on every pitch. This might get ugly. I just hope Kottaras is hustlin' and ends up throwing out Bobby Abreu.
  19. I once started a thread about him going to the 60-day DL. That thread got many views.
  20. I feel better if I just assume "suitcase fell on hand" really means he was saving a woman and her daughter from a burning building when he dropped a piano on his hand. Who is the 3rd catcher on this team?
  21. I guess my concern is that selling will lead to the Brewers' most recent honeymoon of popularity in Milwaukee to be over, even if it only costs a couple of wins. I'm probably not the best person to gauge that given that I'm about 1,000 miles away, but I just have a fear that attendance will go the way of the Cleveland Indians. The only thing that should hold them back from selling right now or in a month is revenue loss. If revenue losses are fairly moderate and only affect the team this season, I say sell. If selling this season will affect revenues over a longer horizon, it becomes quite a bit more complicated. I'll let Mark A. and Co. be the judge of that.
  22. Braun will probably have about 1,100 hits and 200 HR's at the end of this season. Let's assume he plays until he's 40; 12 more years after this one. Then: If he averages 160 hits, he'll top 3,000. If he averages 25 HR's, he'll top 500.
  23. Dunn might just be the first 500 HR guy who you can argue should not get in based on his on-field record. I really like him, but I view him as a borderline HOF'er if he finishes in the 500-525 HR range. I tend not to hold his fielding against him, as it's really not his fault Cincy and Washington kept running him in the outfield when he should have been a 1B or DH. He hit a ton of homers, but his career batting line of .243/.374/.505 certainly doesn't jump off the page for a 1B/DH.
  24. MSC, I'm nominating your post for the bf.net hall of fame.
