  1. I don't remember a Branyon . Also, Kotsay.
  2. Is there any chance the Brewers decide to carry three catchers once Lucroy comes back? I'd bet not, and I normally wouldn't be crazy about the idea, but having Maldonado as a guy that could come in late in games would be nice, and Kottaras' bat is a pretty good bench bat. There's no reason to keep both Izturis and Maysonet, and I also don't see the point of having Ishikawa and Green on the roster, especially now that Hart is playing 1B.
  3. If nothing else, this bet will give us some entertainment down the wire.
  4. I know Craig Counsell played on a few WS teams but I wouldn't consider him an elite SS. Rag on Counsell all you want, but you know in your heart that a lesser man would have missed home plate and been tagged out.
  5. Let's not forget we also got an elite shortstop in the deal.
  6. I was at the game on Tuesday. We only stayed for five innings because some idiot (me) forgot to warm my daughter's bottle. Branyan still looks like a beast, and I was thrilled to be able to watch him both strike out and walk. Unfortunately he didn't go deep in that game. Chris Dickerson led off. He's feeling much more confident now that he has been removed from RockCo's avatar.
  7. Does anybody know what the Brewers' cap is for the first 10 picks? All I see is that the Angels are at $1.6 million and the Twins $12.4 million. I didn't realize the spending limits were this extreme. Seems like the draftees really take the shaft on this new rule. Also, does anybody know if there is a soft cap on picks 11-40?
  8. Anthony Rizzo is hitting .362/.427/.709 in AAA this season. I dislike the Padres for making that trade. Kill mode.
  9. Does anybody know why Kieschnick couldn't find a job anywhere after the Brewers? He was a .248/.315/.444 career hitter in 336 PA's and had a 4.13 FIP in 96 innings. Seems like he would have been a good 25th man on an MLB roster for at least another year or so.
  10. I'm going to be bold here and say I just don't see it. He's a great pure hitter and maybe he'll crack .330-.340 some day. It's a neat discussion, whether we'll ever see another .400 hitter. You'd probably need a guy with a K%<10, 40 HR power, and the ability to carry a ~..375 BABIP to make it happen. It may happen, but there's probably not a single player in the league right now who I'd give a 1/100 shot of hitting .385, much less .400. The league is just so deep and teams seem to be a heck of a lot smarter about defensive shifts than they were even 10-20 years ago. I'd love it to happen though. It would put some of that boyish magic back into the game.
  11. Coulter was pretty impressive in that interview. I can't imagine being a 18 year old kid and sitting in the press box like that. Roache seems pretty comfortable as well. 30 HR's in NCAA ball these days is pretty incredible. Hope to see these guys in Milwaukee soon.
  12. From 2010-2012, Dickey has thrown 464 innings with a 2.97 ERA. I love old junkballers and particularly knuckleballers when they get the job done, so I'm hoping his success continues for quite some time. It's a lot of fun to watch.
  13. Gomez bunts better against LHP. Aoki bunts better against RHP. Duh! I'm not sure whether that should be in blue.
  14. The only reason I know the temperature at which paper burns is Ray Bradbury.
  15. TLB, how can you possibly not be excited to see whether Brooks Conrad can break his streak of 37 PA's without a single hit on a ball in play? I'm also curious to see how long he can go with a wRC+ <0.
  16. DPR? Don't ask. You'll facepalm when you find out. Actually I'm oblivious to this as well. Double Play Range (Yuni?). Double Play Ron? NSFW?
  17. Ugh. I think I'm already getting sick of my new stance as a Roenicke apologist. This is brutal.
  18. I'm willing to discount his defensive WAR a bit because it's not really Dunn's fault the Reds and Nationals kept putting him in the OF. I think he should really be viewed as a poor fielding 1B / DH type than a player who put up abominable defensive numbers in the outfield for a decade. Which means that ultimately he still shouldn't stand much of a chance unless he sticks around forever and gets to 600 HR's.
  19. To answer the first question, I don't think Adam Dunn should get into the HOF unless he cracks 600 HR's. To answer the second, I think there's a decent chance that he gets in, so long as he hits 500 HR's. There is yet to be somebody who played outside of the '90's who hasn't been voted in with 500 HR's. I think there's a good chance Dunn is the first player for whom 500 HR's is not enough, but it wouldn't surprise me either way. Dunn doesn't need to age well to crack 500 HR's. So long as he doesn't completely fall off a cliff, there's no reason to believe he doesn't have a good chance to hit 100 HR's over his last 5-7 seasons (age 33-37/39).
  20. Aoki (RF) - Gomez (CF) - Hart (1B) - Kottaras © - Weeks (2B) - Green (3B) - Ransom (SS) - Morgan (LF) - Fiers (P) That's my early prediction on Roenicke's lineup. Probably nowhere near the worst lineup ever, but certainly as bad as some of those early 2000's lineups.
  21. Yeah, I think places 2-10 are up for debate, but Jeter doesn't sniff Wagner's mitt. Wagner's career wOBA was .414; Jeter's .369. We don't know much about Wagner's defense, but we know that Jeter is and has been a poor defensive SS for his entire career. Wagner had 62 PA's in the playoffs, so that really doesn't have any bearing (though his career playoff wRC+ is higher than Jeter's).
  22. It's even sillier when they do it with night games. I was hoping they wouldn't black out night games during Fox broadcasts, but it doesn't look like that will be the case. Oh well, the Brewers were going to be on screen #3 for most of the night anyways given the NHL finals and the Carolina game.
  23. That bugs you? We've been having a problem with our interwebs where we get ~10MBPS everywhere but our family room, where we get ~1MBPS. I think our air conditioner, which stands directly between our router and our family room, is causing a disturbance. So, I have to slink away to a bedroom to watch the Brewers. Also, I called Cisco because our router was having connectivity issues. After about 15 minutes of giving them my name, email, phone, and getting a case number, they told me they couldn't help me for free because my router is over 1 year old. Then, they told me they could help for a one time $29.95 charge. I started chuckling, asked if anybody ever actually pays the fee, and then hung up.
  24. On PTI, I'm fairly certain I heard Wilbon say Derek Jeter is the greatest SS of all time. Yeah, he's way better than Honus Wagner. He's a great player, and he might make the tail end of my top 5. Wagner, Ripken, Appling, Vaughan, Young,...Ironically, Rodriguez would be ahead of him as well if Jeter hadn't been the major reason for his move to 3B.
  25. 1st no-no in Mets' history. I completely forgot about that until the announcer mentioned it.
