    After the last few games, his BB% is up to 8.8% now, and he has another drool-worthy batting line: .305/.382/.644. Also of note: Braun's OPS of 1.026 almost exactly double Pujols' OPS of .514. If somebody had predicted that, I would have been perfectly willing to eat my own shorts.

    Woah, let's at least be factual. He hit a blistering .226 with a whopping 0 HR's and 5 2B's in just 240 PA's. Dude raked! Oh, and he also graded out very poorly defensively. Oh, and he's currently hitting .203 in AAA right now.

    Can Fontenot play a decent defensive SS? He could probably hold his own at the plate and would certainly be a big offensive upgrade over anything we throw out there.

    Who in their right mind would want a signed Victor Santos card? I suppose it makes sense that a guy who couldn't pitch before dark would have a name I'd expect a vampire to have. Call me...Victor... I'm betting things will even out over the course of the year. Either that or Bill Hall is still going on his rampant parties and drunk dialing Braun and Weeks at 3:30 AM to tell them about his (mis)adventures.

    Did anybody else get the sense that they're not exactly comfortable with the situation, i.e. realize Izturis just won't cut it? Something about the tone of his voice seemed uneasy, and he mentioned that they are indeed looking into things. I want my Taylor Green.

    There's a huge difference between Yuni's bat and Izturis/Maysonet's bat. He isn't a good hitter by any means, but he'd be tolerable if he were a good defender. Izturis' batting line from 2010-2012 (little PT in 2011, 2012) is .226/.272/.260, while Yuni's is .256/.282/.394 over that same time. It's hard to know if the difference in defense from average+ to far below average is greater than the difference in their bats. You know times are bad when I think Yuniesky Betancourt may be better than our current SS options.

    I think a lot of people here said they'd prefer that just after Ramirez was signed. I think his bat would be a downgrade, but perhaps not by that much. FWIW, right now Zips projects Ramirez to hit .269/.329/.457 and Green to hit .265/.325/.426, which would indeed be just a moderate downgrade. Ramirez cost $36 million for 3 years, Green would cost $1 million, and I'm ignoring the cost of his ticking arbitration clock because he's going on 26 and he's now accumulating service time anyways. Sign JHJ for 2 years, $6 million. It would have been much cheaper, and I think the team would be in a better position right now if they had done that. The Gamel injury would obviously still hurt, but if Melvin had gone with the Green/JHJ or like player plan he'd easily have money to pick up Derrek Lee. If only we could have known about Gamel's upcoming ACL injury, a guy like Carlos Pena for $9-10 million would look wonderful at 1B right now. Perhaps a psychic or tarot card reader will be on Melvin's payroll next year... Edit: And Briggs, I think you might be right on Bianchi. It looks like before he missed 2010 with TJ surgery, he was a .300/.360/.440 guy between A+ and AA. Perhaps he's just getting back into the kick of things after a weak 2011 in AA for the Royals. Of course, it's hard to tell given his ~.400 BABIP if he's actually driving the ball or he's just finding a few odd holes in the first month. I've never watched the guy, so I really don't know, but I'm sure the Brewers have somebody keeping track of him. If he's a decent defender, I'm not sure he could be that much worse than Maysonet or Izturis, could he?

    Leaving your best pitcher on the bench in these games and letting your mop-up guy pitch is like bringing out Iker Casillas to kick the 10th PK in a PK shootout so you can save Messi for the 11th. I just don't get it. Maybe it makes it better that other managers do the same stuff, maybe it doesn't. I don't really know.

    K-Rod had already pitched, but I don't see why they didn't leave Loe out.

    I thought it was that the "eastern", as in Nashville, etc. PCL parks were still quite hitter friendly, just not to the comical level of the western parks. Could be wrong though, I honestly don't have much of a clue here. Edit: Maybe that's reasonable. The Brewers' division averaged 5.22 runs per game, while the Pacific-North division averaged 6.10 runs per game. For reference, in 2011 the AL (the PCL uses the DH, doesn't it?) averaged 4.48 runs per game last season.

    Strange performance of the day: Chris Davis, Baltimore's DH, went 0-8 with 5K's in Baltimore's 17 inning win. He also picked up the save with a scoreless 17th inning, striking out Adrian Gonzalez. Edit: typo Edit2: Davis actually pitched 2 scoreless and got the win. ESPN's play log was a bit confused.

    if only he would do this with his pitchers. ugggggghhhh, that's frustrating Yeah, that is kind of funny. Logically shouldn't you pretty much always want to make sure your best 2 relievers get into an 11+ inning game? That's a lot of talent left on the bench.

    Yeah, one thing I really like about Roenicke is that he is willing to PH for guys late in the game and figure out the defense later, so to speak. I'd rather play the bottom of the 9th with a pastrami sandwich at SS than never make it that far in the first place.

    Another announcer pet peeve of mine: Even if a ball is clearly off the plate or down in the zone, Schroeder often says that it "got too much of the plate" or "he left it up in the zone". Don't these guys watch replay? Why doesn't he just say something like "Greinke kept the ball down but Yuniesky Betancourt was still able to pull that fly ball to shallow left"
