  1. Yeah, I'd be lying if I said Epstein doesn't scare me in the long term. There's no way they'll be very good next year, but with that kind of market, it seems like it was only a matter of the time before they hired some competent personnel. Let's just hope this is more of the Crawford/Lackey Epstein than the smart one.
  2. This is awesome. I commend thee for thine great prose. He was a tool, a hypocrite, a bit of a scumbag, and an occasional buffoon. But, he was behind the bench of winning teams and he was probably far more competent than most managers. So,...Something...
  3. So it's Yuni's fault we haven't seen a robust economic recovery? I think you might be on to something...
  4. What's the over/under for number of posts before this turns into a Yuni sucks/Yuni really sucks debate? Actually, I'm feeling sentimental. Can we have one of those classic 40 page Yuni debates?
  5. When people say "parity" when talking about the NFL, I think they're referring to how often "terrible" teams become "good" teams in just one offseason. Of course, if Major League Baseball played a 16 game schedule, I think you'd see a lot more "terrible" teams magically become "good" teams in the course of a single offseason.
  6. Outside of that last game, which was a bit dull, that was a great World Series. And honestly, outside of TLR, Carpenter and the minority in the crowd that does their bidding, I don't dislike St. Louis. Berkman is a pretty awesome guy, Freese is a great story. Now, here's to Pujols signing a 15 year $400 million deal with the Cubs.
  7. It's certainly possible, but it is a somewhat rare occurrence.
  8. FWIW, Pujols did graduate high school in 1998. (Something I learned tonight: he went to HS in Independence, MO). Thanks, Wiki.
  9. As comical as the Brewers' defense was, I'm pretty sure they never did anything that bad (dropped pop-ups to start back-to-back innings).
  10. It's pretty disrespectful of them to cheer for their ball club. For shame.
  11. Berkman has to be my favorite Cardinal as well. I can totally imagine seeing him downing one of those 56 oz. steaks at some dirty saloon in West Texas.
  12. Love that song on the video. For the lack of attention this World Series has been getting, it has been pretty darn fun to watch. A 3 HR game from Pujols, three tight games, and a 3-2 series heading back to St. Louis. Here's to hoping for a classic Texas win in game 7.
  13. I'm surprised nobody brought those numbers up before, but I guess they just reinforce my feelings all along. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the combination of Green at 3B, Barmes? at SS, and Gamel or Comparable at 1B to his about that well with much better defense. To reiterate, losing Fielder sucks, but the money can be better spent elsewhere.
  14. I'm pretty sure Carpenter was saying "Boo-urns".
  15. Dear NFL: Thank you for scheduling IND-NO and BAL-JAX for Sunday and Monday night so our championship can get better ratings than your regular season match-ups. Sincerely, MLB
  16. Which is basically like saying "Yeah, they signed Albert Pujols, but they were the same team otherwise".
  17. This is one night I was actually tempted to drink a Brewdog The End of History. Of course, it probably would have been more horrendous than the result of the game. Any of you Wisconsin beer folks know of any Wisconsin seasonals that are worth picking up? I'll be in Wisconsin for a few days soon and I'm hoping to go on a bit of a craft beer bender. I'm already excited to try NG's Black Top.
  18. It was fun for a while, but it got a little tiresome as the season went on, and I'm happy they won't continue it. Also, I'll never be able to watch Monster's Inc. without thinking of the painful last game of the series.
  19. So, today I was browsing the forum and noticed that on my screen, a Brewerfanner's avatar was an old picture of my wife and I from a few years back. I thought that was a bit odd, but then I noticed that when I used another computer to get on the forum, the Brewerfanner's avatar was the same as it had always been (specifically, not a random picture of me). Has anybody else had this happen, or did I just set a new record for YukuSchizoprenia?
  20. Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart are reasonably good at making baseballs go far. I think it's really important that the Brewers don't break the bank for Fielder, and instead go for a much more balanced lineup. Hart and Weeks are very good hitters, Green projects to be at least average. Maybe somebody like Carlos Pena could fill in at first if Gamel isn't going to be in the plans.
  21. I think the key should have been to get Saito or K-Rod into one of the high leverage situations early on. Honestly, I wonder if the best way to go about this game would have been to just go 2 innings from K-Rod, Ax, and Saito, and then just play match-ups the rest of the game. I guess we'll never know. Good season folks. Let the offseason discussion begin!
  22. Without a doubt the best season since I've been a fan. Great fun. Just not quite enough to get to the big dance. Next season, Prince is gone, but Green will replace McGehee, somebody will replace Betancourt, and Zack Greinke might remember to be Zack Greinke. Marcum will be rested. Narveson should continue to improve. Barring injuries, we should plan on October baseball next season.
  23. Yeah. I'm going to be really annoyed when Roenicke wins manager of the year. Poor fundamental baseball, painful tactics, etc. Can we give Braun an error there, just for fun?
  24. Next season I hope we can look back and laugh at that play. Actually, I already think it was pretty darn funny.
