  1. That makes me think "Jean-Luc", which is too French for a guy as awesome as Lucroy. It's the power he's showing that's impressed me the most. I don't expect him to continue homering at this rate, but he's certainly showing us the power he showed us in 2008. I think the guy's at least a league average hitter and a decent defensive catcher as well. Oh, and he'll be a Brewer until 2016. That's like six years of no Jason Kendall, Chad Moeller, Johnny Estrada, etc. In order to not have to hear Estrada's name again, I'll change the question: Who was the last Brewers catcher to hit 10+ HR's and post a .300+ OBP? Eddie Perez, who hit 11 with a .304 OBP in 2003. The last Brewers catcher to OPS .750+ was Dave Nilsson in 1999.
  2. 1) 20% of all signing bonuses must be paid to funketown.
  3. And pictures. Cool pictures. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRPe1fbaZgNgypFJGXWQ09EHHIWXGLoskHYCovSxiR9U_1heyuB&t=1
  4. 1) No DH 2) Players must give 20% of signing bonuses to funketown. 3) International players included in draft.
  5. Nice outing from CV. 5 IP, 5 K, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB.
  6. Just tuned in and I must say I love the batting order. Lucroy looks far better than either Gomez or Betancourt in the 6-hole. Let's keep this going, Ronnie-boy!
  7. It's not terrible for a PH'er, but for a corner outfielder that gets 2-3 starts per week, it's pretty bad. It's pretty easy to find another no field guy who can hit much better than that. If Kotsay were used on the bench solely for pinch hitting against righties, I don't think we'd have the outcry against him that we are seeing. Last year against righties, Branyan hit .254/.352/.522/.874 in 322 PA's. A very conservative projection for him would be .220/.320/.450/.770, and that would still be a pretty good upgrade for the Crew on the bench.
  8. Are you referring to this? "Zips projects .258/.319/.364/.683 for the rest of the season. If that isn't a terrible line for an outfielder/PH'er, I don't know what is." Kotsay has bad projections because he is a bad hitter, not the other way around.
  9. An anecdote does not prove a rule. For every Jose Bautista there are several more Adrian Beltres. All these projections say is that future performance is a function of past performance. They are models, and no one on here expects them to be perfect. One of the biggest problems fans have is giving too little weight to performance 2-3 years in the past and way too much weight to performance in the present. Are you asserting that we should not use past performance to predict future performance? Oxy, I can sympathize with that sentiment. Just remember that Russell Branyan is a sensitive subject on this board.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I'm guessing the 98% number comes from the idea that 98% of variation in runs scored can be explained by variations in team wOBA, although I'm not sure if that's where it's from. So in that sense, the 98% number makes sense.
  11. Jose Bautista has hit 18 home runs this season in 171 trips to the plate. He is currently hitting .364/.509/.841. If that line were OBP/SLG/OPS he'd be a good player. It's AVG/OBP/SLG!!!
  12. The same could be said for CC Sabathia, but I wouldn't mind him coming around again!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Oxy, I'm curious about what you're basing that opinion on. Do you have data to support your claims, or do you just feel that way?
  14. My wife and I were packing for our move today, and on top of that we had tornado warnings here in Iowa so I didn't get to see much of the game on NBC. Needless to say, when the game went off for a few minutes and then came back I was pretty shocked to see a 3-0 score line. Hopefully they can finish this off on Tuesday.
  15. Can you give a reason that David Ortiz was not as valuable as Braun and Prince on offense last year, or are those just your feelings? He got on base at a better clip than Braun and outslugged him. He was about as valuable on offense as Braun last year, and their wOBA's were identical. Those four batters were similarly valuable last year on offense per plate appearance; what makes you think that is not the case? Strikeouts are accounted for in most linearly weighted metrics, and I'm pretty sure they are included in wOBA, so I don't understand that criticism.
  16. Thanks And That. There's no reason to worry about Greinke. He has made many hitters look foolish and he isn't giving guys free bases. He has been fine so far.
  17. The .320 OBP he be projected to put up is pretty bad alongside a .350 slugging percentage. Zips projects .258/.319/.364/.683 for the rest of the season. If that isn't a terrible line for an outfielder/PH'er, I don't know what is.
  18. So? Neither does Kotsay, and he can't hit either. He is probably serviceable at 3B although certainly bad. At first, he's probably average at this point. Oh, and he can hit.
  19. Sign Branyan. Release Kotsay once Morgan gets back. WOAH SOLVDD. Actually, just do it now and release Kotsay now. Branyan can play the outfield as well as Kotsay anyways.
  20. Well, looks like I'm watching the Brewers for the rest of the night. Ugly, ugly, ugly first period. Nothing else to say.
  21. 2B Rickie Weeks RF Corey Hart LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee CF Mark Kotsay C Jonathan Lucroy SS Craig Counsell LHP Chris Narveson
  22. Lineup per blogspot.runninron.com: 2B Weeks CF Kotsay LF Braun 1B Fielder RF Kotsay 3B Kotsay SS Kotsay C Lucroy P Narveson
  23. I love that Sam Adams idea, and I'll have to grab a 12-pack. The only single hop IPA series I can get around here is Mikkellllller's, and I'm not willing to pay $5.99 for a 500 ml bottle of stale unrefrigerated Euro-IPA. Even if the beers aren't that great, if they're even decent and show off each hop variety I'll be happy.
