  1. Eager made a fool of himself that game. I never saw the hit on Daniel, only heard it on the radio, but it sounded like it should have been a fiver. Anybody here see the hit? Was it that dirty?
  2. Was that the Blackhawks' annoying goal song after the fourth and fifth goals or am I crazy? I could have sworn it was that song, and to be honest I still didn't like it!
  3. They were, Hossa's opening goal in game (5?) from the top of the circles under Luongo's arm was one of the weaker goals in recent memory. Bugger, my internet is too slow for the game. Oh well, internet for me tonight.
  4. "Headley hits the ball to shallow center..." http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/uploads/facepalm.jpg
  5. I'm cautiously optimistic. If you had told me that the Sedins would be shut down essentially the entire Nashville series and Luongo would struggle through the first series, I wouldn't have bet on them. Luongo still concerns me, but the team is good enough that even if he is only mediocre they should have a very good shot. Kesler has been absurdly good the past few games, and he has really blossomed into a top-notch two way player. On paper, they're the best team in the league, but we all know that doesn't always translate into success in the playoffs.
  6. That's actually pretty darn funny. Kesler's reaction might be the best.
  7. I was just about to say that. That Blackhawks song is the only song that angers me as much as that stupid "Go Cubs Go" song that gets played once a month or so when the Cubs win at home. So excited for game 2 tonight...The last time the Canucks were in the semifinals (and the finals), I was turning five years old. My older brother put his knee through the family room drywall when they lost game 7. My other brother was actually a Sharks fan at the time, although he couldn't care less now.
  8. Almost? Someone should explain to Roenicke that just because Kotsay was a very good player in 2002 does not mean he is still a good player. I'm almost surprised Roenicke hasn't asked Melvin about bringing Tim Salmon and Darin Erstad out of retirement. They played with the Angels and seem like Roenicke guys. I'm not sure whether or not this should be in blue.
  9. Just because the lineup scored no runs does not make it a bad lineup. Lineups should maximize expected runs scored; Roenicke's lineup yesterday did a pretty good job of that. Over a whole season, the lineup from yesterday will be better than his typical lineups. Even after the fact, I still think that lineup may have been the best in the young season.
  10. Am I the only one here that feels like Wolf is constantly getting lit up, even though he isn't? Perhaps it's my irrational fear of another Suppan.
  11. Vin Mazarro gave up 14 earned runs in relief in that game in only 2.1 innings.
  12. My hatred for the Cubs will always outweigh my hatred for other clubs. We rip on Cards fans all we want, but for the most part I've found conversations with Cardinals fans at Brewers-Cardinals games to be enjoyable; for the most part the Cards fans I meet are pretty knowledgeable. I don't think I will attend a Brewers-Cubs game at Miller in the near future just because I can't stand all the low-life Cubs fans that come out to Miller. Up in the fourth deck it's like sitting in the crowd at a Nascar race or a SEC football game. Just a bunch of drunk idiots who honestly can't name five active players. Wrigley Cubs fans are far less annoying, although I've never sat in the frat party in the outfield. Had a few peanuts thrown at me during the 16-2 game at Wrigley, but that's about the worst I've experienced at Wrigley. I have nothing against the Reds. I really did enjoy that whole Brandon Phillips episode.
  13. Three more homers for Bautista. Now slugging .868 for the season.
  14. Outfield FAIL. Maybe Hart does have something lingering. I don't see why Lucroy shouldn't be moved to the 2-hole. Even at his worst he's as good a hitter as Counsell.
  15. I had Ommegang's Abbey (dubbel) on tap at Brasserie V in Madison last night and it was very well done. Spicy cinnamon/plum aroma and a nice dry finish. Fullstream Brewery in Durham looks like it has some interesting stuff. I'm not a big lover of experimental beer (they do things like persimmon, basil, kudzu in the future), but probably worth a try. I wasn't wild about Torpedo either. I found it to be a bit metallic on the finish, some nice hops flavor but otherwise just not that special. Maybe just not fresh, maybe just not that great of a beer. I must buy some Dancing Man for tonight. I'm going to miss New Glarus.
  16. Jose Bautista: .365/.525/.798/1.323 Why aren't more people talking about this?
  17. Sad to hear about Boogaard. I'll always remember his performance in the playoffs a few years back against Anaheim.
  18. The optimist in me turned that statement blue. Morgan vs. RHB: .310/.363/.392/.754 Gomez vs. LHB: .240/.289/.360/.650 I don't see why a Morgan/Gomez platoon won't work. Not an offensive dynamo (although Morgan's numbers vs. RHB always surprise me), but given their defensive prowess, I can't help but think that combo would be league average in center if used properly, perhaps even slightly better than average.
  19. The difference between Gomez and Kotsay in the field is far greater than the difference between Gomez and Kotsay at bat. Kotsay is not a center fielder, nor should he be a left fielder at this point. At this point, Kotsay in CF is probably pretty similar to Braun at 3B; he can be expected to be historically bad.
  20. ...And so we meet again, Antti Niemi. It's sad that so few will realize what an exciting match-up this is. Heatley, Thorton, Marleau vs. Sedin, Sedin, Kesler. Something tells me Gary Bettman won't be too thrilled about a Vancouver/Tampa or San Jose/Tampa finals. Hockey fans, however, should be thrilled with either option.
  21. My first thought: Dan Kolb is still playing? I remember 2004 Dan Kolb. 57 innings, 2.98 ERA, 3.30 K/9!
  22. You're missing the point that a lot of people here are making. No, playing Kotsay over Gomez in CF is not going to kill the team for one game. However, making a similarly stupid move in most games could easily cost this team 3+ wins. Gomez is not that crappy of an option in CF, so long as he hits in the 8-hole. Kotsay is abysmal in CF.
  23. Someone needs to tell Ron Roenicke to tell these guys to quit running.
